  • Patent number: 8660322
Abstract: The passive continuous authentication method uses biometric feedback to perform the authentication processes. Computer software and sensors are provided to acquire, memorize, and authenticate both the user's hard (facial) and soft (clothing) biometric information. A registration phase compels the user to register his/her face image into a registration database. Subsequently, the system permits the user to login the system based on facial recognition of the image presented by an attached webcam of the system. During a computing session the system repetitively authenticates the user's identity by comparing the user's acquired face image (hard biometric) to the registered face image in the database. A clothes color histogram (soft biometric) is also computed. The hard biometric recognition mainly decides the authentication result. Otherwise, clothes color histogram matching takes place to decide the result. When the user leaves the terminal the screen locks up.

  • Patent number: 8658600
Abstract: Disclosed is a general methodology to create nano fibers of therapeutic molecules that have a dual role, as both the delivery vehicle and the drug itself. It is shown that with proper molecular design, the integration of enzymatic reaction and self-assembly provides a powerful method to create molecular hydrogels of clinically-used therapeutics without compromising their bioactivities. In addition, the results disclosed herein demonstrate enzyme-instructed self-assembly as a facile strategy for generating the supramolecular hydrogels of molecules that inherently have poor solubility in water. For example, by covalently connecting paclitaxel with a motif that is prone to self-assemble, a hydrogel of paclitaxel can be formed without compromising the activity of the paclitaxel.

  • Patent number: 8660789
Abstract: With real-world spatial networks the edge travel-times are time-dependent, where the arrival-time to an edge determines the actual travel-time on the edge. To speed up the path computation, exact and approximate techniques for computation of the fastest path in time-dependent spatial networks are presented. An exact fastest path computation technique based on a time-dependent A* search can significantly improve the computation time and storage complexity of existing approaches. Moreover, for applications with which approximate fastest path is acceptable, the approximate fastest path computation technique can improve the computation time by an order of magnitude while maintaining high accuracy (e.g., with only 7% increase in travel-time of the computed path on average). With experiments using real data-sets (including a variety of large spatial networks with real traffic data) the efficacy of the disclosed techniques for online fastest path computation is demonstrated.
