Abstract: A microwave capillary nanodiamond reactor assembly, and methods of making and using same, are provided. In another aspect, a reactor and method use less than 100 W of microwave power within a cavity to create a plasma therein, so a substrate or workpiece is placed in a cool plasma zone of about 350-400° C., while growing diamond on the workpiece in a low temperature synthesis manner. In another aspect, a workpiece is moved within a diamond-growing reactor while plasma is in a plasma cavity of the reactor. Furthermore, an aspect of the present reactor and method moves a plasma generating head of a reactor relative to a workpiece while the workpiece is in the reactor.

Abstract: The present disclosure addresses cell type heterogeneity during differentiation of human pluripotent stem cells into islet cells by shifting cell identity from alpha cells to beta cells. More specially, the present disclosure provides a clonal human pluripotent stem cell line that broadly expresses the gene NKX6.1 across cells at the pancreatic progenitor cell stage of in vitro differentiation, which yields fewer alpha cells and more beta cells during directed differentiation to islet cells. The present disclosure further provides a method of improving the yield of insulin-producing cells produced from pluripotent stem cells for transplantation into patients with diabetes.

Abstract: Valves, systems, articles, and methods for controlling fluid flow are generally described. According to some aspects, valves that can move between an open configuration and a closed configuration in response to a change in magnetic field and/or voltage potential are provided. According to certain aspects, valves comprising elastic diaphragms comprising magnetic materials (e.g., an elastic composite material including magnetic nanoparticles or other magnetic materials dispersed in a matrix) and/or electroactive polymers are provided. In some aspects, magnetically actuated systems and/or voltage potential actuated systems comprising elastomeric valves are described. In some embodiments, valves and systems described herein are useful for liquid handling, dosing, and regulation of fluid flow, though embodiments in which the disclosed valves are used in different applications are also contemplated.

Abstract: The present invention relates to a method and apparatus for setting a reference picture index of a temporal merging candidate. An inter-picture prediction method using a temporal merging candidate can include the steps of determining a reference picture index for a current block; and inducing a temporal merging candidate block of the current block and calculating a temporal merging candidate from the temporal merging candidate block, wherein the reference picture index of the temporal merging candidate can be calculated regardless of whether a block other than the current block is decoded. Accordingly, a video processing speed can be increased and video processing complexity can be reduced.

Abstract: Disclosed are a water-soluble chlorhexidine antimicrobial agent and a preparation method therefor and use thereof. The present disclosure takes hyaluronic acid as a raw material to prepare a hyaluronic acid aqueous solution or organic solution, then the hyaluronic acid aqueous solution or organic solution and a chlorhexidine solution are subjected to a complexation reaction, an insoluble substance therein is removed, and then the resulting solution is dried to obtain the water-soluble chlorhexidine antimicrobial agent, namely hyaluronic acid chlorhexidine. The hyaluronic acid chlorhexidine has a good broad-spectrum antimicrobial performance, and excellent water solubility.

Abstract: An X-band dual-polarized slotted waveguide antenna (SWGA) array unit cell comprises a partial H-plane waveguide with a metal vane; and a conventional waveguide in a side-by-side arrangement with the partial H-plane waveguide. A spacing between elements of the X-band dual-polarized SWGA array unit cell in an azimuth plane is in a range of about 0.6?o to about 0.5?o. The X-band dual-polarized SWGA array unit cell has a one-dimensional (1D) electronic-scanning range of at least 84° (±42°) in the azimuth plane perpendicular to a waveguide axis. The X-band dual-polarized SWGA array unit cell has a cross-polarization isolation of about ?60 decibels (dB) or less.

Abstract: Photovoltaic devices with very high breakdown voltages are described herein. Typical commercial silicon photovoltaic devices have breakdown voltages below 50-100 volts (V). Even though such devices have bypass diodes to prevent photovoltaic cells from going into breakdown, the bypass diodes have high failure rates, leading to unreliable devices. A high-efficiency silicon photovoltaic cell is provided with very high breakdown voltages. By combining a device architecture with very low surface recombination and silicon wafers with high bulk resistivity (above 10 ohms centimeter (?-cm)), embodiments described herein achieve breakdown voltages close to 1000 V. These photovoltaic cells with high breakdown voltages improve the reliability of photovoltaic devices, while reducing their design complexity and cost.

Abstract: Provided are a directionally assembled flexible MOF hydrogel, a preparation method and a proton conduction application thereof. The prepared method includes: mixing a transition metal salt and L-Glu to prepare a mixed aqueous solution; putting the mixed aqueous solution into a reaction kettle to react at a constant reaction temperature in a range from 80° C. to 200° C. for a reaction period of 1-5 hours, to thereby obtain a reacted aqueous solution; cooling the reacted aqueous solution to room temperature; and washing the reacted aqueous solution after the cooling with deionized water and absolute ethanol, to thereby obtain the directionally assembled flexible MOF hydrogel, L-Glu-M (M?Zr, Fe, or Co), for sealing and storing. The preparation method is simpler and easier to operate, and the directionally assembled flexible MOF hydrogel has great prospects in the field of proton conducting technologies.
