Abstract: An electrode composite material includes an individual electrode active material particle and a protective film coated on a surface of the particle. A composition of the protective film is at least one of AlxMyPO4 and AlxMy(PO3)3, M represents at least one chemical element selected from the group consisting of Cr, Zn, Mg, Zr, Mo, V, Nb, and Ta, and a valence of M is represented by k, wherein 0<x<1, 0<y<1, and 3x+ky=3.

Abstract: A method for transmitting data is applied to a receiver and a plurality of transmitters. The steps comprise respectively transmitting a data to the receiver at different first transmission times within a transmission interval by the transmitters. Next, the different first transmission times are respectively added with different accumulated values to become the different second transmission times. The different accumulated values are respectively added with a multiple of the different first transmission times. Finally, the transmitters respectively transmit a next data to the receiver at the different second transmission times within a next transmission interval.
Abstract: Disclosed is a spotter device and methods for the formation of microassays, biochips, biosensors, and cell cultures. The spotter may be used to deposit highly concentrated spots of protein or other materials on a microarray a slide, wafer, or other substrate. The spotter uses microfluidic conduits and orifices to deposit proteins, other biomolecules, or chemicals on a spot on a substrate. Each orifice is part of a fluid pathways that includes an inlet and outlet conduit. When the spotter contacts a substrate a seal is formed between the orifices and the substrate.

Abstract: Bitumen within raw oilsands may be cracked and fully recovered by light hydrocarbon extraction following exposure to modified natural zeolite catalysts under cracking conditions. The recovered bitumen is reduced in viscosity, with lower boiling point distributions. Effective cracking of oilsands bitumen using economical, abundant and readily disposable natural zeolites represents a significant step towards a waterless and environment friendly extraction process.

Abstract: Analyzing a device under test (“DUT”) at higher frequencies. A phase shifter varies the phase of a standing wave on a transmission line coupled to the DUT. Abstract: A method of one aspect may include monitoring movement of a scanning beam image acquisition device. Images may be acquired with the scanning beam image acquisition device using a first image acquisition mode when the monitoring indicates that the scanning beam image acquisition device is moving. Images may be acquired with the scanning beam image acquisition device using a second image acquisition mode when the monitoring indicates that the scanning beam image acquisition device is substantially still. The second image acquisition mode is different than the first image acquisition mode. In one aspect, the first mode has a relatively higher frame rate and relatively lower number of lines of image resolution than the second mode.
Abstract: The present invention relates to the use of a solution containing at least one endopeptidase to substantially reduce or completely eliminate allergenic proteins contained in the peanut (Arachis hypogea). In particular, the direct application of a solution containing at least one endopeptidase to either raw, blanched, or roasted peanuts or peanut products or derivates, has been shown to substantially reduce or completely eliminate the activity of allergenic proteins. The treated peanuts showed no degradation in quality or sensory acceptability, and have the flavor and aroma of natural whole peanuts. Hypoallergenic or non-allergenic peanuts produced in accordance with the present invention may be used as ingredients in various food products and other edible materials.
Abstract: Microfabricated tools useful for manipulating small, delicate samples are formed from thin plastic films. The films have a small thickness (preferably 5 to 50 micrometers and typically 10 micrometers) and small lateral dimensions (preferably 2 mm or less and typically 0.1 to 1 mm) so that they are reasonably flexible, but are preferably curved by being wrapped around a cylindrical or flat post to give them some rigidity. The softness and thinness of the plastic reduce risk of sample damage during incidental contact with the tool. Its thinness makes it optically and X-ray transparent, so that the samples can be clearly visualized during manipulations and so that the tools can be used to collect X-ray data from samples. As an option, an X-ray sensitive phosphor is incorporated in the film at low concentration. This allows the X-ray beam to be visually located on the mount or tool.
Abstract: A vacuum-induced injection molding apparatus is disclosed. The apparatus includes a tool surface having an injection port extending therethrough. A flexible film extends over and is sealingly coupled to the tool surface. The flexible film comprises an outer surface and an inner surface such that the flexible film inner surface and the tool surface define a volume. A vacuum chamber is sealingly coupled to the outer surface of the flexible film. A vacuum port is in fluid communication with the volume. A method of injection molding a polymer matrix composite is also disclosed.

Abstract: The present invention includes systems and methods for monitoring endogenous compound concentration in blood by detecting markers, such as odors, upon exhalation by a patient, wherein such markers are the endogenous compound itself or result from the endogenous compound. In the case of olfactory markers, the invention preferably utilizes electronic sensor technology, such as the commercial devices referred to as “artificial” or “electronic” noses or tongues, to non-invasively monitor endogenous compound levels in blood. The invention further includes a reporting system capable of tracking endogenous compound concentrations in blood (remote or proximate locations) and providing the necessary alerts with regard to emergent or harmful conditions in a patient.

Abstract: A context-based adaptive binary arithmetic coding (CABAC) decoding device and a coding method thereof are provided. The device comprises: a context memory address calculator, calculating an address identifying a memory location in a context model memory for storage of a context model in next cycle; a mixed context memory, in which the context model of the context memory address calculator is stored and from which the context model is read; a two-bin context adaptive binary arithmetic decoder, outputting several parameters for updating the range and offset of the context model, based on the context model of the mixed context memory and deciding several bins; and a binary syntax element comparator, judging whether a current binary sequence corresponds to the value of syntax elements, based on the bins so as to select a correct memory address.
