  • Patent number: 9555394
Abstract: Ionic liquid (IL)-mediated sol-gel hybrid organic-inorganic materials present enormous potential for effective use in analytical microextraction. One obstacle to materializing this prospect arises from high viscosity of ILs significantly slowing down sol-gel reactions. A method was developed which provides phosphonium-based, pyridinium-based, and imidazolium-based IL-mediated advanced sol-gel organic-inorganic hybrid materials for capillary microextraction. Scanning electron microscopy results demonstrate that ILs can serve as porogenic agents in sol-gel reactions. IL-mediated sol-gel coatings prepared with silanol-terminated polymers provided up to 28 times higher extractions compared to analogous sol-gel coatings prepared without any IL in the sol solution.

  • Patent number: 9559636
Abstract: An optoelectronic circuit for producing an optical clock signal that includes an optical thyristor, a waveguide structure and control circuitry. The waveguide structure is configured to split an optical pulse produced by the optical thyristor such that a first portion of such optical pulse is output as part of the optical clock signal and a second portion of such optical pulse is guided back to the optical thyristor to produce another optical pulse that is output as part of the optical clock signal. The control circuitry is operably coupled to terminals of the optical thyristor and receives first and second control signal inputs. The control circuitry is configured to selectively decrease frequency of the optical clock signal based on the first control signal input and to selectively increase frequency of the optical clock signal based on the second control signal input.

  • Patent number: 9554729
Abstract: Visual-assisted guidance of an ultra-thin flexible endoscope to a predetermined region of interest within a lung during a bronchoscopy procedure. The region may be an opacity-identified by non-invasive imaging methods, such as high-resolution computed tomography (HRCT) or as a malignant lung mass that was diagnosed in a previous examination. An embedded position sensor on the flexible endoscope indicates the position of the distal tip of the probe in a Cartesian coordinate system during the procedure. A visual display is continually updated, showing the present position and orientation of the marker in a 3-D graphical airway model generated from image reconstruction. The visual display also includes windows depicting a virtual fly-through perspective and real-time video images acquired at the head of the endoscope, which can be stored as data, with an audio or textual account.

  • Patent number: 9558661
Abstract: The disclosure includes a method for traffic flow prediction based on data mining on spatio-temporal correlations. The method includes establishing a prediction model, data mining on spatio-temporal correlations, and traffic flow prediction based on spatio-temporal correlated data. The prediction model can be a linear regression model with multiple variables. The data mining on spatio-temporal correlations is based on a multi-factor linear regression model and by means of the optimization method in terms of sparse representation. The data from the spatio-temporal correlated sensors that are relevant to the prediction task are determined automatically. The traffic flow prediction based on spatio-temporal correlated data refers to that the prediction is performed with the input to the prediction model to be the data from the spatio-temporal correlated sensors.
