  • Patent number: 5810237
Abstract: A drive assembly for operatively rotating a web spreading roll of a paper mill or the like utilizes a toothed belt for transferring rotational motion from a motor-operated driving toothed pulley to a freewheeling or otherwise rotatably mounted driven toothed pulley. The driven pulley is, in turn, coupled to at least one of the plural rotary driven roll segments of and that are carried on the curved shaft of the web spreading roll. To minimize wear on the toothed belt, the driving and driven pulleys are fixedly mounted in positions of permanent alignment with one another, as by mounting both the drive motor and the driven pulley on the shaft bearings housing located at one end of the spreading roll shaft. A flexible coupling, as in the form of a rubber or otherwise suitably resilient bellows or the like, connects the driven pulley to the at least one roll segment for transferring rotation of the driven pulley to the roll segment so as to operatively rotate the web spreading roll.

  • Patent number: 5812404
Abstract: A method for the continuous overall regulation of a single-layer or multi-layer headbox of a paper, board or pulp-draining machine. A physical fluid flow model of a pulp suspension flow discharged from the headbox to be regulated is formed and solved to obtain a simulated flow state based, e.g., on data on the geometry of the headbox and initial and boundary conditions related to the headbox. A target flow state based on the quality requirements of the paper produced from the pulp suspension flow and the costs of operation and runnability of the machine is obtained and a difference between the simulated flow state obtained as the solution of the flow model and the target flow state is determined. This difference constitutes a cost function which is optimized to determine optimal regulation values and set values for instrumentation devices and actuators of the headbox which affect the pulp suspension flow.

  • Patent number: 5779183
Abstract: A method and a device for finishing the surface layers of the machine reel (13) that is formed during reeling of the web (P). In the method; a member (20) that presses the web is brought onto the face of the reel (12) that is being completed before the reel (12) that is being completed is transferred to the reel change position. The full reel (12) is transferred to the reel change position so that the member (20) that presses the web during nip-free reeling forms a contact with the web, which contact prevents access of air between the web layers, and follows the full reel (12) during its transfer to the reel change position. During the reeling of the surface layer to be finished, the member (20) that presses the web is shifted apart from the face of the reel (12) that is being completed along such a path (D) of movement that the member (20) that presses the web maintains a contact of the desired extent with the face of the reel (12) that is being completed.
