    Abstract: A press section of a paper machine, in particular for printing paper qualities whose grammage is in the range of about 40 g/m2 to about 80 g/m2 is disclosed. The press section comprises a pick-up roll having a suction zone on which a paper web is detached at a pick-up point from a forming wire and is passed on the pick-up felt into a first press nip in the press section. In the first press nip, the pick-up felt acts as a press fabric. The press section further includes an extended nip placed after the first press nip. Into this extended nip, the web is passed as a closed draw on support of a fabric face or roll face. The first nip in the press section is a roll nip with relatively low load and acts as a front nip. In the area of the first press nip, almost or approximately one half of the total amount of the water contained in the web entering into the front nip is removed from the web. The extended nip, which is the second press nip in the press section, is formed against a smooth-faced back-up roll.

The coating bar spreads and smoothes a coating agent onto the moving base. The coating agent is introduced into the coating device in advance of the coating bar in the running direction of the moving base.

    Abstract: A method for regulation of the transverse distribution of the fiber orientation of a web produced by means of a paper machine or equivalent, by regulating the transverse profile of the discharge opening (16) of the headbox (10) of the paper machine. The transverse grammage profile of the paper web (W.sub.0 . . . W.sub.1) produced by means of the paper machine is measured, and the measurement signal obtained in this way is used as a feedback signal in the control system. With the machine configuration and parameters present in the paper machine to be controlled, data are collected concerning the relationship between the directional angle of the transverse distribution of fiber orientation and the transverse distribution of grammage of the web (W.sub.0 . . . W.sub.1) that is being produced by, carrying out response runs of the paper machine in its various states of operation (i). The relation data are stored in the memory of the computer (52).

    Abstract: A method and device for stabilizing the running of a paper web in a paper machine in connection with a paper guide roll, in particular between a press section and a dryer section. In the method, the paper web is passed over the paper guide roll onto a drying wire or equivalent and negative pressure (suction) in the opening nip of the paper guide roll is lowered until a transition is made to the side of positive pressure in order to press the paper web against the drying wire or equivalent. The device includes a nozzle beam and an air chamber which communicates with a blow air duct. The nozzle beam is placed at the side of the opening nip of the paper guide roll such that the blowing discharged out of a nozzle opening of the nozzle beam is directed at the opening nip in order to press the paper web against the drying wire or equivalent.

A flow path connects the first pulping unit to the second pulping unit for transporting material between the units. The second pulping unit has devices for separating pulped material into a first material component comprising waste matter collected at the bottom of the second pulping unit, a second material component comprising sieved pulped material and third material component comprising unsieved pulped material. The second and third material component are separated from the first material component and are transported as a unitary flow to a primary space. Mixing and sieving devices are located in the primary space for separating the second material component from the first material component. The second material component comprises material which passes the sieving device and the third material component comprises material which does not pass the sieving device.

The concentration of the additional flows is different than the average concentration of the pulp suspension. The additional flows are introduced through additional-flow pipes to the vicinity of inlet openings of turbulence tubes of a turbulence generator. The grammage profile of the web in the direction of width of the web is regulated in the headbox by adjusting the distance of the end of the additional-flow pipe/pipes from the turbulence generator, whereby the amount of the additional flow entering into the additional-flow pipes and, at the same time, the amount of the pulp suspension flow are regulated.

    Abstract: The invention relates to a closed press section in a paper machine and comprises a compact combination of press rolls. Several of the rolls define press nips with each other, between which nips the web has a closed draw supported by the face of a fabric. The press section has a center roll in connection with which a press nip or press nips are provided. A closed loop of a transfer band is passed around the center roll. The web is transferred on an outer face of the transfer band after the last press nip in the compact combination of rolls as a closed and constantly supported draw onto a drying wire in a drying section following after the press section. The transfer band loop is made of a transfer band fabric that substantially does not receive water and does not rewet the web.

In the twin-wire draw, the drying cylinders in the drying group are arranged in two rows placed one above the other, in which rows the successive cylinders are placed in the upper row and in the lower row as interlocked. In each cylinder group, there are two drying wires, an upper wire and a lower wire for pressing the paper web against heated faces of the drying cylinder while being guided by guide rolls placed in gaps between the cylinders. The paper web runs as free draws between the rows of cylinders.

    Abstract: A method for providing a tubular roll mantle of a roll for a paper machine or equivalent with glide bearings and a roll including glide-bearings. The roll mantle is supported on a stationary roll axle by hydraulic glide-bearing members acting upon the roll mantle or upon the roll ends. The bearing members are loaded hydraulically by a pressure medium. The roll mantle is supported on the roll axle by at least one pair of glide-bearing members which acting radially and/or axially in opposite directions. When an outside force that shifts or attempts to shift the roll mantle in the direction transverse to the main loading direction and/or in the axial direction is applied to the roll mantle, the pressure in the glide-bearing member placed at the side of the higher loading is adjusted to a level higher than the pressure in the glide-bearing member acting in the opposite direction so that the outside forces are neutralized.

    Abstract: The invention relates to a method and device for stabilizing a paper web in a group of cylinders in the dryer section of a paper machine. The group of cylinders are arranged in a row of drying cylinders and a corresponding row of leading rolls or equivalent placed as interlocked with the drying cylinders. The group of cylinders is provided with a single-wire draw so that the heated drying cylinders in the group are placed outside the loop of the drying wire and the leading rolls in the group are placed inside the loop of the drying wire. The stabilization device is arranged in the area between adjacent drying cylinders and the leading roll or equivalent placed as interlocked between the adjacent drying cylinders in the group of cylinders. Air is blow from the device and directed in the direction opposite to the running direction of the paper web.

    Abstract: A drum winder and method for winding a web in a drum winder, in which winding drums support a roll that is being formed and a cutter device cuts the web before a new winding is started on an empty roll spool. The cutter device has a cutter blade, an actuator, and a power transmission system operatively coupled to the cutter blade of the cutter device so that the movement of the actuator is transferable by the power transmission arrangement to the cutter blade. The cutter blade is movable along a curved path of movement so that the position of the cutter blade in its lower position is substantially more distant from one of the winding drums than it is in its upper position. On the blade beam of the cutter blade, seal units are arranged to seal the winding drums from below. The gap between the winding drums is sealed from above by an upper end-seal unit, whereby the gap between the winding drums can be pressurized. On the blade beam of the cutter blade, a sealing doctor blade may be arranged.
