  • Patent number: 10383546
Abstract: This disclosure concerns improved capabilities for evaluating whether additional medical tests need to be conducted for a diagnosis of a pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH) condition in a patient. The method includes determining that the patient is at rest and measuring a partial pressure of carbon dioxide in a composite gas, comprising: transferring an expiration from the patient's mouth to a carbon dioxide analyzer; measuring end tidal carbon dioxide (EtCO2) from each of a plurality of oral expirations from the patient; and calculating a composite EtCO2 value. The method further includes comparing the composite EtCO2 value to a range of stored carbon dioxide partial pressure values; generating a signal indicating whether additional medical tests need to be conducted in response to the comparing; and providing the generated signal to an indicator, the indicator adapted to respond to the generated signal to provide an output in a human cognizable format.

  • Patent number: 10338052
Abstract: Methods of detecting a sulfur-containing compound in a sample are described, for example using NMR-SABRE hyperpolarization of the sulfur-containing compounds in the sample. The methods can comprise, for example, contacting a sample comprising a sulfur-containing compound with parahydrogen and a catalyst to form a mixture. A spin order can be transferred from the parahydrogen to the sulfur-containing compound thereby hyperpolarizing the sulfur-containing compound during a temporary association of the parahydrogen, the sulfur-containing compound, and the catalyst. The methods can further comprise, for example, performing an NMR measurement on the mixture comprising the hyperpolarized sulfur-containing compound to detect the hyperpolarized sulfur-containing compound (e.g., from the hyperpolarized NMR signals. In some examples, the methods described herein can be used for detecting a sulfur-containing contaminant in a fuel.

  • Patent number: 10300599
Abstract: Methods and systems are described for controlling movement and an applied force at the tip of the continuum robot that includes a plurality of independently controlled segments along its length. An estimated force at the tip of the continuum robot is determined based on measurements of loads and positions of each segment. A reference position command and a force command are received from a user interface. The reference position command indicates a desired movement for the distal end of the continuum robot and the force command indicates a desired force to be applied by the tip of the continuum robot to a tissue surface. The position of the continuum robot is adjusted to cause the tip of the continuum robot to apply the desired force to the tissue surface based on the estimated force at the tip of the continuum robot, the reference position command, and the force command.
