Abstract: A service quality metric, that measures the quality of a multicast broadcast that is being received by a mobile device, may be determined. In one implementation, a method may include receiving a radio signal corresponding to a multicast broadcast of content that was encoded using a forward error correction (FEC) technique in which the content is segmented and encoded as a plurality of blocks; and reassembling the content corresponding to the received radio signal. The method may further include determining an FEC failure rate based on a relative occurrence of the successfully reassembled blocks to the unsuccessfully reassembled blocks; determining a service quality metric based on the FEC failure rate; and providing a visual indication of the service quality metric.

Abstract: A security device may be configured to receive information regarding traffic that has been outputted by a particular user device; and compare the information regarding the traffic to security information. The security information may include device behavior information, traffic policy information, or device policy information. The security device may determine, based on the comparing, that a security threat exists with regard to the traffic; and take, based on determining that the security threat exists, remedial action with respect to the traffic. Taking the remedial action may include preventing the traffic from being forwarded to an intended destination associated with the traffic, providing an alert, regarding the security threat, to the particular user device, or providing an alert, regarding to the security threat, to another device.

Abstract: In various embodiments, an encoder may be configured to divide received content in a first format into one or more segments and then to transcode the previously-divided segments into other formats and/or bitrates for presentation. In various embodiments, the encoder may include multiple segmenting computing devices configured to perform the dividing of the content into segments. The encoder may also include multiple transcoding computing devices configured to transcode the divided segments into a format for presentation. In various embodiments, the computing devices may be configured to communicate with each other via a network to determine which content has been divided into segments and which divided segments have been transcoded. The determination may be performed autonomously by the devices. Thus, in various embodiments, the devices included in the encoder may be configured to perform segmenting and transcoding on a distributed basis without necessarily requiring coordination by any one device.

Abstract: A device may receive a content distribution network (CDN) routing table from a topology manager; receive a request, from a device in either of a redirect CDN or a domain name system (DNS), to identify a target CDN for sending content to a user device; perform a lookup in the CDN routing table, based on information provided by the device and CDN selection policies, to select the target CDN; obtain an identifier corresponding to the target CDN as a result of performing the lookup; and provide the identifier to the device.

Abstract: In an exemplary method, a media content recommendation system interfaces with a knowledge graph system to access knowledge graph data that represents a knowledge graph relationship between a subject and a media program in a knowledge graph, generates, based on the knowledge graph data, a media content recommendation that includes recommendation content indicating the media program and the knowledge graph relationship between the subject and the media program, and outputs the media content recommendation for presentation to a user by a user computing device.

Abstract: A method, a device, and a non-transitory storage medium to store traffic aggregation settings that include hold time values that each indicate a maximum period of time to suspend a transmission of data; receive data from a resident application; determine a type of application from which the data is received; determine whether the device in an active state; select one of the hold time values in response to a determination that the device is not in the active state; suspend a transmission of the data in response to a selection of the one of the hold time values, wherein the transmission of the data is suspended for at least a portion of a maximum time period indicated by the one of the hold time values; and transmit the data subsequent to the at least the portion of the maximum time period elapsing.

Abstract: Provided is an intelligent mobile wireless access point device that is set-up to allow for remote configuration of the access point device, via a mobile communication network, by a configuration server. A configuration file for a mobile wireless access point device is maintained by a service provider in a configuration server. The configuration file is delivered to the mobile wireless access point devices over the mobile communication network, which allows multiple mobile wireless access point devices to be configured substantially simultaneously and without the multiple mobile wireless access point devices being physically located at an enterprise location. In addition, the remote configuration examples of a mobile wireless access point device mitigate the opportunities for unauthorized use of the mobile wireless access point, and provide additional security features for authorized users.

Abstract: Bandwidth for a radio access network may be efficiently allocated for certain voice over LTE (VoLTE) services. In one implementation, a request associated with traffic flows may be received. Each of the traffic flows may be associated with an amount of guaranteed bit rate (GBR) traffic. The method may further include selectively summing the GBR traffic, to obtain an aggregate bandwidth value. The method may further include reserving an amount of GBR bandwidth corresponding to the previous version of the aggregate bandwidth value when a comparison indicates that the aggregate bandwidth value is less than the previous version of the aggregate bandwidth value; and reservation an amount of GBR bandwidth corresponding to the aggregate bandwidth value when a comparison indicates that the aggregate bandwidth value is not less than the previous version of the aggregate bandwidth value.

Abstract: A pre-provisioned mobile device and a system are provided that enables selection of proprietary feature services and proprietary applications specific to one cellular carrier from among two or more cellular carriers that have pre-provisioned the mobile device with carrier-specific proprietary feature services and proprietary applications. In response to insertion of a carrier-specific universal integrated circuit card, pre-provisioned proprietary feature services and proprietary applications specific to the carrier associated with the carrier-specific universal integrated circuit card are enabled for execution on the mobile device from a memory of the mobile device. Other examples allow for customized firmware and software builds.

Abstract: An attenuator device includes a housing that forms a channel configured to receive an optical fiber. The optical fiber includes a first fused fiber tap for a first signal direction and a second fused fiber tap for a second signal direction. The attenuator device also includes (a) a first bend control region, in series with the channel and aligned with the first fused fiber tap; (b) a first bend-inducing object that moves to selectively contact the first fused fiber tap in the first bend control region to alter a bend radius at the first fused fiber tap; (c) a second bend control region, in series with the channel and aligned with the second fused fiber tap; and (d) a second bend-inducing object that moves to selectively contact the second fused fiber tap in the second bend control region to alter a bend radius at the second fused fiber tap.

Abstract: A mobile device includes a transceiver for performing wireless communication, a microprocessor for operating said mobile device, a near field communications (NFC) system for performing wireless communication independent of the transceiver and at a lower amount of power than said transceiver, a contactless front end included in the NFC system for receiving or transmitting signals with an NFC capable device, and a pairing system implemented in the microprocessor for pairing one NFC capable device with another NFC capable device. The pairing system configures the mobile device to receive a tag or a device driver from one of the NFC capable devices that are to be paired with each other; and transfers the tag or a device driver obtained from the tag to the other of the NFC capable devices in order to enable interoperation between the two NFC capable devices.

Abstract: A system may provide dynamic web-based content in conjunction with text message content. A user may use text messages to interact with web content (e.g., to select hyperlinks, request information, provide information, etc.). A content server may process the text messages, sent by the user, in order to determine web content to provide to the user. The text messages may be authenticated by a message relay server, thereby eliminating the need for the content server to request authentication or identification information from the user.

Abstract: A device includes an audio capture device for receiving an audio signal in an ultrasonic frequency range. The device includes a processor to determine whether the received audio signal corresponds to an ultrasonic message. The processor extracts a content of the ultrasonic message, when it is determined that the received audio signal corresponds to an ultrasonic message, automatically handles the ultrasonic message based on the extracted content, stores at least a portion of the content of the ultrasonic message, and displays the portion of the content of the ultrasonic message to a user of the mobile device at a time subsequent to a time of the receipt of the audio signal.

Abstract: A server may be configured to receive an indication that a first user device stores a particular content item; receive, from a second user device, a request for content; and determine that the requested content is available from the first user device. The determining may include determining that the particular content item stored by the first user device corresponds to the request for content, and determining that a local peer connection is available between the first user device and the second user device. The server may further output, to the first user device, an instruction to output the requested content to the second user device via the local peer connection, and/or the server may output, to the second user device, information which may allow the second user device to request the content from the first user device via a local peer connection.

Abstract: An exemplary computer-implemented media service system detects an input command provided by a user to initiate a viewing session by way of a display screen in communication with a media content processing device that operates in accordance with a media service, identifies a context within which the input command is provided by the user, selects, based on the identified context, a media program available by way of the media service and that is potentially of interest to the user, and directs the media content processing device to present the media program by way of the display screen when the viewing session begins in response to the input command. Corresponding systems and methods are also described.

Abstract: Identification of potential fraudulent website activity is performed based on log entry analysis. A log entry representing a user referral from an external referrer is processed to determine whether the referred user performed a log in procedure at a user account website of an organization. The external referrer is, for example, a phishing website. In one example, the referred user first accesses an enterprise website of the organization via the phishing website and subsequently accesses the user account website via the phishing website. In an alternate example, the referred user only accesses the user account website via the phishing website. Upon determining the referred user performed a log in procedure at the user account website, a fraud prevention system is notified.

Abstract: A first device associated with an evolved packet core network receives a first update request from a second device associated with the evolved packet core network. The first update request is associated with a communication session previously provided between the first device and the second device, and the first update request is generated based on a voice/video request. The first device generates an update answer in response to the first update request, where the update answer includes a code requesting that the communication session be restored between the first device and the second device. The first device receives, based on the code, a second update request from the second device, where the second update request includes session information associated with the communication session. The first device restores, based on the session information, the communication session between the first device and the second device to create a restored communication session.

Abstract: A first device may receive an indication that a multimedia message service (MMS message) message has been sent from a first user device to a second user device; obtain, from a second device, the roaming status of the first user device at a time that the MMS message was sent by the first user device; generate a call details record (CDR) indicating the obtained roaming status of the first user device at the time the MMS message was sent by the first user device; and store or output the CDR to a billing system that charges an account, associated with the first user device, for sent MMS message. An amount charged by the billing system may be based on the roaming status of the first user device at the time at which MMS message are sent by the first user device.

Abstract: A device receives a virtual machine (VM) to be deployed, and identifies multiple network device clusters for possible VM deployment. The device applies a weighting parameter to at least one of the multiple network device clusters to favor selection of the at least one of the multiple network device clusters over other network device clusters. The device receives user selection of one or more network device clusters from the multiple network device clusters to generate a disabled group of network device clusters and an enabled group of network device clusters, wherein the disabled group of network device clusters excludes at least one of the multiple network device clusters. The device selects a network device cluster, from the enabled group of network device clusters, for deployment of the VM based on the weighting parameter applied to the at least one of the multiple network device clusters.
