Abstract: This disclosure relates to a method in which points common to two or more of the images that appear to represent the same real world features are identified, and changes in the location of the points between respective images are used to deduce the motion of the camera and to find the position of the real world features in three dimensional space. In order to determine the scale of the three dimensional information, the position of a reference feature, whose actual distance from the camera is known, is found from the images. The reference feature is found by considering only candidate points selected from candidate points falling within a portion of the image corresponding to a part of the field of view of the camera. The scale is determined from the distance between the camera and the reference feature in the image and in real life.

Abstract: This invention discloses methods and apparatus for providing a variable optic insert into an ophthalmic lens. A liquid crystal layer may be used to provide a variable optic function and in some examples, an alignment layer for the liquid crystal layer may be patterned in a cycloidally dependent manner. The patterning may allow for a polarization dependent lens in some examples. An energy source is capable of powering the variable optic insert included within the ophthalmic lens. In some examples, an ophthalmic lens is cast-molded from a silicone hydrogel. The various ophthalmic lens entities may include electroactive liquid crystal layers to electrically control optical characteristics.

Abstract: Optical module of a lighting and/or signaling device of a motor vehicle, comprising a reflector associated with a light source, in particular comprising an LED, in order to reflect the light coming from this light source, this reflector being formed on a part, in particular a monolithic part, namely produced in one piece, provided with a cooling opening for a circulation of cooling air.
Abstract: Sets, kits or stocks of anti-myopia contact or spectacle lenses, along with methods for their use, that do not require a clinician to measure peripheral refractive error in the eyes of myopic patients. Extensive surveys have shown that lenses having peripheral powers or defocus set in accordance with central corrective power will cover almost all normal myopes not worse than ?6D central refractive error. In one example, a kit or set of lenses (50, FIG. 15) can have multiple parts or sub-sets (52, 54) each comprising a compartmented container (56a, 56b) with lenses (58a, 58b) arranged according to increments of central corrective power (59a, 59b). The lenses (58a) of the first part (52) have four steps (60a, 61a, 62a, 64a) of peripheral power or defocus to provide therapeutic effect and, while the lenses (58b) of the second part (54) also have four steps (60b, 61b, 62b, 64b), the level of therapeutic effect is higher.

Abstract: A system and method for performing a femto-fragmentation procedure on tissue in the crystalline lens of an eye requires that a laser beam be directed and focused to a focal point in the crystalline lens of the eye. The focal point is then guided, relative to an axis defined by the eye, to create a segment cluster by causing Laser Induced Optical Breakdown (LIOB) of tissue in the crystalline lens. The resultant segment cluster includes a plurality of contiguous, elongated segments in the crystalline lens that are individually tapered from an anterior end-area to a posterior end-area. Specifically, this is done to facilitate the removal of individual segments from the segment cluster in the crystalline lens.
Abstract: A biometric recognition system for providing security for an electronic device includes a digital camera for providing a biometric image from a user of the electronic device and a touch screen for entering a user selected screen gesture. A processor is configured for use with the electronic device for comparing the biometric image to biometric image data and the user selected screen gesture with a screen gesture stored in a database. The digital camera can be enabled by providing a definitive movement of the electronic device by the user in a unique motion so to provide secure access to the electronic device when either the biometric image data or screen gesture are authenticated.
Abstract: A foldable roll-over protection structure is provided for use on a vehicle movable in a generally fore-and-aft direction. The foldable roll-over protection structure includes a frame comprising a base section and an upper section. The base section is connectable to the vehicle. The upper section is swingable relative to the base section between a forward position in which the upper section projects forwardly from the base section, a rearward position in which the upper section projects rearwardly from the base section, and an upright position positioned between the forward and rearward positions. A hinge assembly swingably interconnects the sections of the frame. The hinge assembly is configured to releasably secure the upper section in each of the positions of the upper section.
