    Abstract: Certain substituted .alpha.-halo and .alpha.-mercaptophenylacetic acids and substituted phenylacetic acids having in .alpha.-position a sulfur-containing group, a cyano group, or an amino group, their substantially non-toxic esters, salts, and acid amides as well as 5-phenyl substituted 2-imino-4-oxothiazolidines and 5-phenyl substituted 2,4-dioxothiazolidines have a high anti-inflammatory, analgesic, and antipyretic activity, low toxicity, and/or a favorable therapeutic index with minor or no side-effects. Preferred compounds of this invention are .alpha.,m-dichloro-p-cyclohexylphenylacetic acids and its esters and salts.
