Abstract: A colorimeter accessory for a smartphone is provided that, by leveraging the high-volume development of sophisticated smart phone technology, substantially reduces the cost of a colorimeter. The invention provides a sample holder that adapts to a range of smart phone cameras and that provides a light source and interference filter necessary for making accurate narrowband measures of light transmission through the sample holder. A correction system operates to compensate for characteristics of the smart phone camera that can affect accuracy of the reading. The processing system of the smart phone may be enlisted for this correction system and for calculation of concentrations of solution through the measurements that are made.
Abstract: An in-ear microphone allowing assessment of sound pressure level directly of an individual's ear canal without intervening conduits between the sound source (i.e., ear canal) and the microphone is provided. Sound from an in-ear communications device may also be isolated from ambient noise using an in-line noise detector for recording the noise from the in-ear communications device.

Abstract: The present invention provides a compound of Formula I, II or III or a salt or prodrug or derivative thereof that is useful for skin-whitening by inhibiting melanin formation and removing existing melanin and the inhibition of melanoma growth and/or the removal of existing melanoma cells.
Abstract: Solvents for macromolecules generally believed to be insoluble in their pristine form are identified by generation of a “solvent resonance” in the relationship between solvent quality (deduced by Rayleigh scattering) and an intrinsic property of solvents. A local extreme of the solvent resonance identifies the ideal intrinsic property of an ideal solvent which may then be used to select a particular solvent or solvent combination. A solvent for graphene is used in the production of transparent conductive electrodes.
Abstract: A lift system includes a block and tackle pulley system movable along a track and carrying first and second hooks at a common attachment axis. The first hook is attached at a front end of the saddle while the second hook is attached to the back end of the saddle. Once the saddle is lowered onto the horse the inward tension of the hooks caused by the weight of the saddle is released allowing the hooks to be removed from the saddle without human intervention. The lift system accommodates a range of saddle sizes and weights.
Abstract: The present invention provides a metering nozzle used with a squeezable bottle for dispensing a fixed amount of fluid from the bottle. A dispensing chamber volume of the metering nozzle may be adjusted to adjust the volume of fluid dispensed from the bottle. The nozzle allows the fixed amount of fluid to be measured and then dispensed without returning into the bottle by utilizing a movable piston, shuttling between the nozzle inlet and the nozzle outlet by applying a compression force to the bottle against a biasing force of a spring.

Abstract: Disclosed herein are systems and methods for angle measurement. According to one embodiment, the angle of rotation between a first movable portion of the device and a second fixed portion of the device is measured based on the times when a plurality of marks on a third rotating portion of the device are sensed by a plurality of sensors on both the first movable and the second fixed portions of the device. The embodiment utilizes an electronic computation device to analyze the times and provide an accurate measurement of the angle.
Abstract: A heteroatom (N,S,O)-rich porous organic polymer and a membrane-based separation system and process employing the polymer is provided that utilizes one of a number of the heteroatom-rich porous organic polymers which contain ultra-small pores in their structures. The polymers can be used in the membranes to form a simpler, easy to regenerate separation system and method that and does not involve phase changes in the operation of the system. The system with the functionalized nanoporous organic polymer(s) can be utilized as a nanoporous membrane composite(s) for CO2 gas separation, or in the formation of a heterogeneous catalyst to convert CO2 to useful chemicals.
Abstract: An apparatus for musculoskeletal stimulation allows independent electronic control of vibration parameters and overall biasing force so that an optimum combination of these parameters may be obtained regardless of the user's weight and without the need for adjustment of mechanical weights or springs.
Abstract: The present invention includes a solvent system comprising a pristine nanoparticle solute suspended in a liquid solvent. The solute is selected from the group consisting of a metal oxide, a mixed metal oxide, a chalcogenide, and a mixed metal chalcogenide; and the solvent system is characterized by a value of chi less than about 0.00.
