Abstract: In a retrieval application, a document relevance scoring function comprises a weighted combination of scoring components including at least one of a pseudo-relevance scoring component and a cross-media relevance scoring component. Weights of the document relevance scoring function are optimized to generate a trained document relevance scoring function. The optimizing is respective to a set of training documents including at least some multimedia training documents and a set of training queries and corresponding training document relevance annotations. A retrieval operation is performed for an input query respective to a database using the trained document relevance scoring function to retrieve one or more documents from the database.

Abstract: Methods of generating image anchor templates from low variance regions of document images of a first class are provided. The methods select a document image from the document images of the first class and align the other document images of the first class to the selected document image. Low variance regions are then determined by comparing the aligned document images and the selected document image and used to generate image anchor templates.

Abstract: A charged particle generator includes a first electrode, a second electrode, and an insulating material that is provided between the first electrode and the second electrode. Charged particles are generated by discharge that occurs between the first and the second electrodes. The first electrode, the insulating material, and the second electrode are arranged in a first direction. The second electrode has a shape that does not intersect a path along which the charged particles move in a second direction perpendicular to the first direction.
Abstract: An apparatus and method that operates a stripper finger. The apparatus can include a media path configured to transport a media sheet. The apparatus can include a rotational member configured to contact the media sheet. The apparatus can include a stripper finger having a length along a longitudinal axis. The stripper finger can include tip at an end of the length. The stripper finger can be configured to selectively engage and disengage contact between the tip and the rotational member to selectively strip the media sheet from the rotational member.

Abstract: Systems and methods monitor jets in a color imaging device to identify and correct faulty jets without interrupting a print job. The relationship between the output of the imaging device and the sensor values of a sensor is characterized in a correspondence table. Thereafter, an image produced by the imaging device is measured by the sensor at multiple locations for a group of jets including jets each corresponding a different color of the imaging device color space. The measured output at each of the multiple locations is compared with two or more sets of predicted sensor outputs generated from the color coordinates used to produce the image at the corresponding location and the correspondence table, the set of predicted sensor outputs including at least one predicted sensor output generated with at least one jet set as faulty.
