Abstract: A printing system and method for processing print jobs in a network of printers are disclosed. The printers each have high and low operational states. A job ticket is associated with each print job. The job ticket designates one of the network printers as a target printer for printing the job and includes print job parameters related to redirection and delay for the print job. Where the target printer for the print job is in the low operational state, the print job related redirection and delay parameters for the job are identified. Based on the identified parameters, the print job may be scheduled for at least one of redirection and delay, where the parameters for redirection/delay permit, whereby the likelihood that the print job is printed sequentially with another print job on one of the network printers, without that one printer entering an intervening low operational state, is increased.

Abstract: A document managing system includes: an image forming device that includes an image forming part, and forms a document on a prescribed output medium; a discarding device that includes a document discarding part that discards the document formed on the output medium by the image forming device; and a discard certificate issuing device that includes a discard certificate issuing part, and issues a certificate of a discarding process in the discarding device.

Abstract: A printing system and method combine conventional print and reusable print media functionality in a shared stand-alone system to allow a user flexibility in deciding whether to print a temporary document or an archival permanent document. The system integrates and shares functionality to reduce manufacturing and operating costs, as well as to reduce the device's footprint. Commonality may include a common printhead shuttling mechanism (traversing carriage) and portions of the mechanism for moving paper. Pre-conditioning and printzone conditioning stations may also be shared to achieve precondition heating and/or erasing of media sheets prior to printing and maintaining of an elevated temperature during printing. In embodiments, separate feed trays are provided for each media sheet type.

Abstract: An image forming apparatus includes: an image forming section that forms an image on a recording medium; a storage container that is detachably and attachably provided and that stores waste powder having been discarded and transported from the image forming section; a first transporting section that transports, from the image forming section, the waste powder having been discarded in the image forming section; a transport path through which the waste powder having been transported by the first transporting section is caused to fall down and is transported; a second transporting section that transports, to the storage container, the waste powder having been transported through the transport path; and a controller that stops driving of the second transporting section if an operation set in advance is executed when the storage container is removed.

Abstract: A developing device include: a toner carrier that is arranged oppositely to an image carrier; a toner-flying electrode member spaced apart from the toner carrier; and an oscillating electric field generating power source that connects the toner-flying electrode member and the toner carrier, and generates an oscillating electric field which causes the toner to fly from the toner carrier. The toner-flying electrode member includes a conductive member that extends at least along a rotational axis direction of the toner carrier; an insulating coating layer that applies insulating coating continuously to a conductive member surface located on a toner carrier side; and an exposed portion where the conductive member surface adjacent to the insulating coating layer and located on an image carrier side is exposed.

Abstract: A printing system includes a housing and a marking engine within the housing for marking print media conveyed on a paper path through the housing. A viewing system, such as a window in the housing, is positioned so as to enable an observer outside the housing to view a print job in progress.

Abstract: The image forming apparatus includes: an image forming section forming an image on a recording medium; first and second storing containers attachably and detachably provided and storing waste powder discarded from the image forming section; a first discharging part allowed to be shut off and discharging the waste powder to the first storing container; a second discharging part discharging the waste powder to the second storing container; a first transporting section transporting the waste powder to the first discharging part; a second transporting section transporting, toward the second discharging part, the waste powder transported to the first discharging part, when the first discharging part is shut off; and a controller shutting off the first discharging part and stopping the first transporting section or reducing an output of the first transporting section, when the first storing container is removed in a state where the first discharging part is opened.

Abstract: Embodiments of the present invention include a video server that can detect and track the image of a pointing indicator in an input video stream representation of a computer display. The video server checks ordered frames of the video signal and determines movements for a pointing indicator such as a mouse arrow. Certain motions by the pointing indicator, such as lingering over a button or menu item or circling a button or menu item can provoke a control action on the server.

Abstract: In a paper sheet transporting device, in an air duct portion of a suction duct, a suction confluence opening that collects air that is sucked and allows the air to pass through is disposed in a position included in a region where suction openings whose suction force is relatively the highest of plural suction openings exist and which position is away from the inner surface side of the suction surface portion, with the air duct portion being formed in a shape where the opening cross-sectional area of an air duct becomes relatively narrower away from the suction confluence opening in the rotating axial direction of a transport belt.

Abstract: An image processing apparatus has a processing condition setting section, a reference image processing section and a processing condition registration section. The processing condition setting section sets an image processing condition to input image data. The input image data is subjected to image processing according to the image processing condition. The reference image processing section performs the image processing on reference image data according to the image processing condition and generates processed reference image data. The processing condition registration section registers into a condition storage the processed reference image data with the image processing condition.

Abstract: Job tickets containing scoped instructions can control the processing of a PDL file to produce a data stream that is efficiently processed by a rendering device such as a raster image processor or printer. Job tickets contain instructions for processing a PDL file. Scoped instructions control processing of only those PDL file sections within a certain scope as specified on a per instruction basis.

Abstract: Apparatuses useful in printing and methods of mitigating media edge wear effects on fixing belts in printing are provided. An exemplary apparatus useful for printing onto media includes a first roll including a first surface; a second roll including a second surface; a fixing member including a third surface; a fixing belt supported on the first surface and second surface, the fixing belt including a surface forming a nip with the fixing member; a registration distribution system for translating the first roll, second roll, fixing member and fixing belt, as a unit, transversely with respect to a media travel path of media received at the nip; and a belt steering mechanism connected to the second roll for translating the fixing belt across the first surface of the first roll at the nip, transversely to the media travel path, while the registration distribution system translates the first roll, second roll, fixing member and fixing belt transversely to the media travel path.

Abstract: An optical scanning device projects an image onto a photoreceptor within a print system. A laser light source generates a plurality of light beam outputs, wherein the light beam outputs are arranged in a two-dimensional parallelogram array within a substantially horizontal axis and a substantially vertical axis that is perpendicular to the horizontal axis. The two-dimensional parallelogram array has an odd number of rows of light beam outputs, wherein each row has an equal even number of light beam outputs. A rotating polygon mirror includes a plurality of deflecting surfaces, each of the deflecting surfaces deflects the light beams emitted from the laser light source. The light beam output array projects a first swath N onto the photoreceptor via the rotating mirror and swaths [N+1, N+2, . . . ] are subsequently placed at a level one-half down the number of light beam outputs of the previous swath. Each swath has the identical number of light emitting outputs as the two-dimensional array.

Abstract: The presently disclosed embodiments relate generally to the formulation of an anticurl back coating layer that renders imaging apparatus flexible members and components their desirable flatness, for use in electrostatographic, including digital apparatuses. More particularly, the embodiments pertain to an imaging member comprising an anticurl back coating layer formulated to comprise a polymer blend of an anti-static polymer and a low surface energy A-B diblock copolymer polymer and an adhesion promoter. The embodiments provide an imaging member belt with the anticurl back coating that is electrically conductive and also substantially reduces its surface contact friction to help suppress/eliminate tribo-electrical charge build-up at the backside of the imaging member belt under normal machine imaging member belt operational conditions in the field.

Abstract: An image processing apparatus includes an acceptance unit that accepts an image of an original from an image reader having a conveying unit that conveys an original in sequence along a conveying path passing through a read position and an image read unit that reads the image of the original at the read position at read speed responsive to conveying speed of the original; an acquisition unit that acquires information concerning a stable read range in which the read speed in the conveying direction in the original becomes a stable state from storage in which the information is previously stored; and a registration unit that extracts feature information concerning a microscopic pattern that a surface of the original has from a registration area in the image of the original accepted by the acceptance unit and registers the feature information in association with position information concerning a position of the registration area.

Abstract: According to aspects illustrated herein, there are provided systems for conveying a sheet article into an intended pathway. The multi-way gate system for diverting sheets into multiple pathways in a sheet conveying device includes at least three pathways for directing the sheet from the sheet conveying member in a particular direction. A single gate plate is between the sheet conveying member and the pathways. The single gate plate is rotatable about a single axis to direct the sheet exiting the sheet conveying member toward one of the pathways.

Abstract: A system and method for processing text are disclosed. The method includes receiving text to be processed. A main language of the text is identified. At least one unknown sequence in the text is identified, each unknown sequence comprising at least one word that is unknown in the main language. For a secondary language, for each of the at least one unknown sequence, the method includes determining whether the unknown sequence includes a first word recognized in the secondary language and, if so, identifying a sequence of words in the secondary language which includes at least the first word. The identifying of the sequence of words in the secondary language includes applying an algorithm for determining whether the sequence of words in the secondary language is expandable beyond the first word to include adjacent words. The text is labeled based on the identified sequences of words in the secondary language.

Abstract: Embodiments described herein include a component specific natural language color unit for modifying colors of image components in an image using component specific natural language commands. The CSNLC unit can receive a component specific natural language color command for a color modification of an input image. The component specific natural language color command can include a component identifier and a color modifier. The natural language command can be parsed to attribute the component identifier to an image component in the input image and to attribute the color modifier to a predefined color space associated with the image component. The color modifier can indicate the color modification to be performed. The color modification can be applied to the image component to adjust the color of the image component.

Abstract: A modulator in an imaging apparatus includes a metamaterial shell surrounding an opaque core. The metamaterial is tunable, so that the metamaterial acts as a waveguide for light at a given wavelength. This property of the metamaterial is used to modulate the light beam in an imaging apparatus. The light beam can be guided around the opaque core under a first voltage condition, or the light beam can be blocked by the opaque core under a second voltage condition.

Abstract: A wordspotting system and method are disclosed. The method includes receiving a keyword and, for each of a set of typographical fonts, synthesizing a word image based on the keyword. A keyword model is trained based on the synthesized word images and the respective weights for each of the set of typographical fonts. Using the trained keyword model, handwritten word images of a collection of handwritten word images which match the keyword are identified. The weights allow a large set of fonts to be considered, with the weights indicating the relative relevance of each font for modeling a set of handwritten word images.
