  • Patent number: 8055173
Abstract: The fixing apparatus includes: a fixing member having base and conductive layers and fixing a toner onto a recording medium when the conductive layer is heated by electromagnetic induction; a magnetic field generating member generating an alternating-current magnetic field crossing the conductive layer; and a magnetic field inducing member arranged so as to face the magnetic field generating member across the fixing member, and inducing the magnetic field into itself or allowing the magnetic field to go through the member. The base layer and the magnetic field inducing member each contain a material having a magnetic permeability change onset temperature in a range from not less than a heating preset temperature of the fixing member to not more than a heatproof temperature of the fixing member. A thickness of the base layer is smaller than a skin depth of the layer at the heating preset temperature of the fixing member.

  • Publication number: 20110271173
Abstract: A system and a method for filling a form are provided which take as input a user's data file, which is configured for use in filling in forms, and an image of an original form to be filled in using the user's personal data. Form filling rules encoded in the image are decoded and used to determine values of a plurality of fields of the form by applying the decoded rules to the user's data. The plurality of fields of the form are filled with the determined values to generate an at least partially filled form, which is then output, e.g., to a printer or a display. The exemplary system and method are able to operate independently of the language used in the text of the form, have the capability of filling in previously unseen forms, and are particularly suited to filling in paper forms.

  • Publication number: 20110267631
Abstract: A method and apparatus sense the replacement of a used component with a new component within the apparatus using sensors within the apparatus. The method/apparatus can then automatically display a message on a graphic user interface of the apparatus in response to the sensing of the replacement. This message provides information for recycling the used component, and the message provides a shipping option for shipping the used component to an appropriate recycling location. If the shipping option is selected, the method/apparatus retrieves a shipping address from memory within the apparatus and prints a shipping label for shipping the used component to the recycling location using a printing engine operatively connected to the apparatus.

  • Publication number: 20110267645
Abstract: A print-document conversion apparatus includes a conversion-module activation section that activates, as a process, a conversion module for performing conversion processing for converting print-document data which is described in a page description language and which includes units of processing into print-image data. The conversion module includes a thread activation part, an assigning part, and a shared cache. The thread activation part activates conversion processing threads. The assigning part assigns the units of processing to the conversion processing threads, and causes the conversion processing threads to perform processing on the units of processing. The shared cache is shared by the conversion processing threads. When a conversion result obtained by converting an object included in the units of processing is stored in the shared cache, each of the conversion processing threads obtains the stored conversion result instead of obtaining the conversion result by converting the object.

  • Publication number: 20110268552
Abstract: This is a stacking tray especially useful in a paper marking system. When papers containing an ID or credit card attached are stacked, an uneven stack results where the card portion is thicker than the paper without the card. This presents a difficult situation for moving the stack onto a transport to a printer or other stations. To correct this uneven or thicker stack from hindering paper feed, two paper plate supports are provided, one a vertically movable plate and the other a fixed plate support. The ID card or credit card portion of the paper is always loaded onto the vertically movable plate thereby providing a substantially flat top stack for easy movement of the sheets from the stack.

Abstract: A system and method are disclosed for determining when to escalate from one support level to a higher support level in assisting a user resolve a problem with a device. The method includes storing information on past users' interactions with a self help server during prior self help sessions, the self help server providing a first remote support level for troubleshooting a problem with a device. Information is stored on a current user's interactions with the self help server during a current self help session for troubleshooting the current user's problem with a device. A determination of when to provide for escalation to a higher remote support level for troubleshooting the current user's problem with the device is based on the stored information on the past users' interactions and the current user's interactions.

  • Publication number: 20110266739
Abstract: A method of positioning copy or subsets for the easy insertion of tabs thereinto that includes creating a shingled boundary between subsets, with the top sheets of all subsets in the same position, but with the rest of each subset progressively offset so that the last page of the upper subset is significantly offset from the top sheet of the next subset in sawtooth fashion. As a result, the subsets can then be separated from one side more easily and tabs or other pages can be manually inserted with minimal difficulty.

  • Publication number: 20110267629
Abstract: What is disclosed is a novel system and method for generating a color lookup table (LUT) that minimizes interpolation errors over the entire color space, including the off-grid colors. The present method for LUT optimization considers off-grid point errors in assigning entries to the LUT. As described herein further, grid point values are computed that provide a least mean square error solution for the entire printer gamut volume. The present method dramatically reduces errors near the gamut boundary and can be used for populating nodes of any LUT that will be linearly interpolated, not only a table mapping from L*a*b* to CMYK.

  • Publication number: 20110267630
Abstract: What is disclosed is a novel system and method for retrieving a gamut mapping strategy from a seed profile of a seed device. In a manner more fully described herein, the present method provides an embodiment which accounts for the pathological case of a false gamut mapping ray being produced in those instances where the shapes of the gamuts of the host and seed devices are substantially different. In these instances, the rays miss the boundary surface of the host gamut and intersect the boundary of the L*a*b* cube. Another embodiment is provided which accounts for those cases wherein the ray intersects the host gamut at a substantially oblique angle such that mapped color is sufficiently different to generate contours in the output print.
