  • Patent number: 7738135
Abstract: An image processor is provided with an acquisition unit; a discriminating unit; a decomposing unit; and a rearranging unit. The acquisition unit acquires image data and layout information of an original document which are obtained by reading the original document in which the layout information is recorded in advance. The discriminating unit discriminates number of logical pages in the original document, an arranged order of the logical pages, and orientation of the original document, based on the layout information. The decomposing unit decomposes the image data into the logical pages, based on the result of the discriminating. The rearranging unit rearranges the decomposed logical pages according to a predetermined output layout, and outputs image data in which the logical pages has been rearranged.

Abstract: An image forming apparatus includes a developing device, a replaceable developing material container that contains developing material, a coupling member that couples the developing device to the developing material container, and a controller. The controller calculates a value obtained by calculating replacement time of the developing material container, on a developing material amount obtained by subtracting a developing material amount filled in the coupling member from a developing material amount contained in the attached developing material container, when the developing material container is attached and an installation sequence to fill the coupling member with developing material is performed. The image forming apparatus further includes a display that displays information indicating the replacement time of the developing material container based on the value calculated by the controller.

  • Patent number: 7738737
Abstract: An image processing apparatus sequentially reduces a document, while changing the reduction factor step-by-step. Next, the image processing apparatus refers to the characters that constitute the document that has been reduced with the respective reduction factors, and specifies a reduction factor at which blank regions surrounded by line portions that express each character do not disappear. When an appropriate reduction factor is specified, the image processing apparatus specifies a resolution of the characters for that reduction factor, and converts the resolution of the document data to that specified resolution. Then, the image processing apparatus performs various processing for the document data whose resolution has been converted. Thus the resolution of document data is converted such that the document is reduced with a reduction factor suitable for computer processing.

  • Patent number: 7738805
Abstract: Methods and apparatus for performing addressable fusing and/or heating of a substrate undergoing xerographic processing are disclosed. The apparatus includes a fuser having an array of addressable heating elements in radiative communication with a substrate through a fuser roll or fuser belt. The array of addressable heating elements is operated to selectively heat portions of the substrate to achieve a desired effect on the substrate, such as changing its surface finish, or fusing unfused toner to the substrate. In the case of toner fusing, the array is operated such that substantially only an area covered by the unfused toner is heated. This eliminates the need for blanket fusing, and generally provides for greater flexibility in xerographically processing substrates. Apparatus and methods for performing two-sided selective fusing and/or heating are also disclosed.

  • Publication number: 20100142806
Abstract: A method, system and data structure for providing a 3+1 layer MRC image, including a text layer. The text layer includes pixel data corresponding to text in an image and may be assigned a predetermined value for a particular color. According to one or more embodiments, the 3+1 layer MRC image may be subject to clean-up processing to alter one or more of the layers, other than the text layer, based on the text layer pixel data. This clean-up processing reduces redundant information stored in the 3+1 layer MRC image and provides opportunities for file size reduction (i.e., data compression).

  • Publication number: 20100141984
Abstract: A method receives a print job and analyzes the complexity of the print job to generate complexity factors. The method performs raster image processing (RIP) on the print job and records the time taken to perform the raster image processing of each page of the print job. This generates “RIP times.” In addition, the method records the size of each page of the print job to generate “page sizes.” Then the method prints the print job and records the time it took to process the print job. Then the method determines how each of the complexity factors, the RIP times, and the page sizes contributed to the time it took to process the print job. This generates “complexity factor time values.” The method prints a report of the complexity factor time values detailing how each of the complexity factors contributed to the time it took to process the print job.
