Abstract: A method of processing image data when generating multi-level data having arbitrary levels with arbitrary level spacing. The method scales the value of the input pixel to a common level spacing in relation to the arbitrary level spacing in which the input pixel resides. The scaled input data is then treated and processed in the same manner as processing image data with a binary output. The same processing functions, operations and values can be readily applied to data within each level without regard to the level spacing or output levels.

Abstract: A method for optimizing rendering of objects to be printed on a white background, includes identifying an object of a particular type to be printed on a white background, wherein objects of the particular type have predefined rendering hints associated with them, which predefined rendering hints provide optimized rendering of the objects of the particular type on non-white backgrounds; associating a new tag called “object on white” with the identified object; defining a new rendering hint for rendering the object of the particular type on a white background with the identified object; and rendering objects with the object on white tag according to the new rendering hint.
Abstract: Diminished intensity defects occur in electrostatic printing between image regions having grey levels, i.e., different electrostatic potential and toner densities. Such defects occur when higher density regions “steal” toner from lower density regions. The system and methods according to this invention compensate for these defects by modifying the input image data. The input image data in lighter regions that precede or occur near a light-to-dark transition to a dark region are raised above the input image values. Thus, when printed, the printed image intensity values in such regions are higher than the corresponding image intensity values. As a result, when the higher density regions steal the extra toner provided due to the raised values, the gray level of the printed image corresponds to the desired gray level. The magnitude of these defects is periodically measured with a calibration pattern to generate and/or update compensation factors used in the compensation process.
Abstract: A method for joining fluid containers and fluid ejectors in a fluid ejecting device are provided. The fluid container includes one or more heat stakes and a substrate includes one or more apertures for receiving the heat stakes and one or more three-dimensional features in the vicinity of the one or more apertures. The fluid ejector and optionally an elastic member are interposed between the fluid container and the substrate. Thermal energy is applied to the one or more heat stakes so that the one or more heat stakes soften to occupy the apertures and three-dimensional features of the substrate and pressure is applied to maintain contact between the fluid container, elastic member, fluid ejector and substrate. The present invention is also directed to substrate including one or more apertures for receiving heat stakes and one or more three-dimensional features in the vicinity of the one or more apertures.

Abstract: A digital printer is operable in an inactive mode, such as a sleep mode or a cycle-in mode, and an active mode. In response to receiving a first print request, the digital printer delays beginning switching from the inactive mode to the active mode, for a delay period of predetermined duration. In response to receiving a second print request during the delay period, the digital printer begins switching from the inactive mode to the active mode substantially immediately. The delay increases opportunities for processing multiple print requests within one switching to the active mode.
Abstract: A method, computer readable medium, and system for requiring external authorization for a job prior to processing includes determining for a job if external authorization for at least one is item is approved and processing the job if the external authorization for the at least one item is determined to be approved. This method, computer readable medium, and system has better control over who uses a particular device and which operations are enabled by involving an external authorization process outside of the system. Additionally, method, computer readable medium, and system assists in discovering and preventing misuse of the system through the authorization process and by keeping a log of activity.
Abstract: Various particle reservoir systems such as used in printing systems are described which utilize one or more traveling wave grids within a reservoir to selectively transport particles to a reservoir exit. The traveling wave grids serve to transport the particles by use of moving electrostatic fields that travel across the grids. The reservoir systems are adapted for use with a variety of print head configurations.

Abstract: A method for creating a structured document, wherein a structured document comprises a plurality of content elements wrapped in pairs of tags, includes parsing a document of a particular type containing content into a plurality of content elements; and for each content element, suggesting an optimal tag according to a tag suggestion procedure. The tag suggestion procedure includes providing sample data which has been converted into a structured sample document; deriving a set of tags from the structured sample document; evaluating the set of tags according to tag suggestion criteria to determine an optimal tag for the content element. The optimal tag may be a single tag or a pattern of tags which maximizes a similarity function with patterns found in the sample data.
Abstract: A charge generating device comprising a discharge electrode; and a conductive shield comprising a nonconductive substrate coated with one or more materials selected from the group including gold, platinum, lead, titanium and alloys thereof.
Abstract: Color error associated with an image rendered by a rendering device is calculated in the no more than N?1 dimensions of an associated color sensor color space. The color error is assumed to be small. A differential of a mapping from an N dimensional rendering device color space to the associated color sensor color space is used to calculate a colorant error in the N dimensions of the rendering device color space. Where necessary, appropriate assumptions are used to constrain an underdetermined system of equations. Where calculated colorant error is unreasonable, the calculated colorant error is clipped and colorant error is recalculated based on the clipped value.
