Abstract: A fault diagnosis section activates a driving component alone, measures an operation state signal and a paper passage time, and stores feature values (Vm, ?v, Tqs, ?ts) extracted as a determination reference in a storage medium. A paper passage fault determination section determines whether or not a fault has arisen on the basis of the paper passage time when an apparatus is under normal operating conditions. A diagnosis target block determination section determines an order to operate a detail fault diagnosis when it is determined that there is a plurality of diagnosis target blocks.

Abstract: A piezoelectric device includes a piezoelectric body layer, a first electrode layer at one face side of the piezoelectric body layer, and a second electrode layer at a side of a face of the same that is opposite to the side at which the first electrode layer is disposed. Higher potentials are applied to the first electrode layer and lower potentials are applied to the second electrode layer. The piezoelectric device features a metallic layer disposed in contact with a piezoelectric body layer surface at the side at which the first electrode layer is provided, and a metal oxide layer disposed in contact with a piezoelectric body layer surface at the side at which the second electrode layer is provided. The metallic layer is formed of a metallic material with a standard electrode potential greater than 0 V, and the metal oxide layer is formed of a metal oxide.
Abstract: An optical lens system includes a lens surface capable of forming concentric interference patterns on an object as if light emitted from a single light source were virtually emitted from two or more light sources within a plane containing an optical axis of the single light source.
Abstract: A continuous sheet-printing device including: an input buffer for printing data; a generation section that generates image data from the printing data that is supplied from the input buffer; an output buffer for the generated image data; a printing section that implements printing on continuous sheet in accordance with image data supplied from the output buffer; a determination section that determines, on the basis of a buffering state of the output buffer, whether or not generation of image data by the generation section will be timely for a print timing of that image data at the printing section; and a controller that, when the determination section determines that generation of image data by the generation section will not be timely, controls the printing section such that a predetermined page count of skip page(s) is inserted between printed pages according to the generated image data, is provided.
Abstract: An actuator system that includes two beams that are formed into a diamond pattern. A crossbar is positioned at a midsection to connect the two beams. When power is applied to the two beams, the diamond pattern is driven vertically. An actuator system may also include a substrate and a first layer above a second layer on the substrate. The first and second layers include upper and lower beams joined together at one end of the layers. A method of forming an actuator system includes forming a first layer above a second layer on a substrate, joining the first and second layers together at one end of the layers, and forming upper and lower beams. The upper and lower beams may be different in width, length and thickness to control a vertical movement of the actuator system.
Abstract: This invention is a method of producing a set of TRC's for a color printer's secondary halftone screens that is correlated with the printer's primary halftone screens. The method makes use of the printer/screen characteristic data that is normally gathered during screen calibration. However, instead of progressing from the data to a normal calibration for the secondary screens, the method goes backward through the data starting with the finished primary screen TRC's. The method insures that for every primary screen density, the closest possible secondary screen density is used when the same digital value is specified.

Abstract: Systems and methods for creating aesthetically pleasing visual image summaries from a collection of input images. The systems and methods determine a visual image summary by creating candidate partial layouts, assigning penalty scores to the candidate partial layouts based on a number of evaluation criteria, evaluating the penalty scores for the candidate partial layouts, and building upon the candidate partial layouts, beginning with the lowest scoring candidate partial layout first, to form complete layouts. The resultant visual image summary fits within a user defined area, maintains the order of the input images, and contains a relative small amount of aesthetically undesirable qualities.
Abstract: Various venturi configurations are described that are particularly significant for ballistic aerosol marking (BAM) applications. The specific venturi geometries enable the printing of lines having sharp edges and particular widths, using relatively low pressures.

Abstract: Differentiating between image and graphic objects contained within a Color Rendering Dictionary improves printing efficiency. The differentiation between image and graphic objects is accomplished by monitoring the sequence in which Color Rendering Dictionary procedures are executed. Based on the monitored sequence, an image or graphic object is determined to be used for rendering.
Abstract: A method by which the target of a toner concentration (TC) sensor can be set up based on the equivalent developability concept without using an expensive patch generator. First, use a black toner area coverage (BTAC) sensor to measure the relative reflectance (RR) of a 100% area coverage developed patch (ROS generated) at a series of development levels (Vem or Vdev) to generate a pseudo development curve and estimate VdO in real-time (VdO is the Vdev level that starts to develop toner onto the photoreceptor belt.) Then, add a nominal delta Vdev to VdO to get the development level (Vdev) needed to generate 100% area coverage gray patch. Finally, using a BTAC sensor to measure the RR level of a 100% area coverage (AC) gray patch, move the target of the TC sensor, and converge the sensor's reading to the sensor's target continuously until the RR level of the gray patch hits the RR target (predefined) within the tolerance range. Thus, the target of the TC sensor is set for the xerographic system automatically.
