Abstract: In a system including a plurality of elements, or plurality of subsystems of elements, each performing a process using process control to maintain operation within a latitude of a setpoint and having an output characteristic that contributes to an overall output quality specification of the system, a control method includes setting a desired overall output quality specification, and determining optimum setpoints and latitudes of the plurality of elements, within a range of possible setpoints and latitudes for each element, to achieve the desired overall output quality specification. The control method further includes dynamically re-setting the setpoints and/or re-allocating the latitudes of at least two of the plurality of elements (or subsystems of elements) to compensate for degradation of the attribute caused by variation in the output characteristic of one element within the desired overall output quality specification.

Abstract: A power supply for a hybrid scavengeless development (HSD) image forming system which generates three voltages, a mag voltage, a donor voltage and a wire electrode voltage. The power supply outputs square waveforms for generating toner clouds to maximize the voltage push-pull on toner without increasing peak voltage level. The power supply also generates asymmetric waveforms for mag AC, donor AC and electrode wire voltage signals to avoid air breakdown at a wire electrode to donor interface while allowing maximum use of a voltage space. Finally, the power supply uses frequency modulation of the AC signals to suppress harmonic strobing of electrode wires.

Abstract: Methods and systems for dewarping images allow a user to reduce distortion in scanned images. A scanned image is processed using an optics model and an illumination model, and resampled to reduce distortion. The dewarping may be improved through iterative operations where a model parameter is varied. An optimal image is obtained which corresponds to a maximum metric as a measure of the quality of a resampled image.
Abstract: Systems and methods for triage of passages of text output from an OCR system by use of trainable models of the accuracy of the OCR system based on attributes of individual characters. The systems and methods according to this invention automatically triage an OCR-output text passage by determining at least one OCR-output character attribute for each OCR-output character, determining an error rate for the OCR-output text passage using a triage model and the determined at least one OCR-output character attribute, and comparing the determined error rate for the OCR-output text passage with an OCR-output text passage threshold error rate to perform an OCR-output text passage triage decision. Triage decision includes for example, sending OCR results directly to an end user without any post-OCR processing, sending the OCR results through a post-OCR inspection and processing stage, sending the original document image to be completely keyed in manually, and a combination thereof.

Abstract: An image-forming apparatus with multiple toner image-forming units that form toner images by developing electrostatic latent images by means of a developer containing a nonmagnetic toner and a magnetic carrier. Each of the toner image-forming units has a photoreceptor, a developing device that develops an electrostatic latent image borne on the surface of the photoreceptor, and multiple cleaning rolls, which have a magnetic particle layer of magnetic particles at the surface that are located in the state freely rotatable and in contact with or in the neighborhood of the surface of the photoreceptor. Furthermore, the cleaning rolls absorb nonmagnetic toners present on the surface of the photoreceptor on the magnetic particle layer thereof by rotation and the photoreceptor is rotating at a peripheral velocity of approximately 200 mm/sec or more.
