  • Publication number: 20060290731
Abstract: An image processing method generates a halftone-dot image by forming a halftone dot, which is represented by a set of one or plural output dots and corresponds to an intensity of an input image signal, while making a part of the dots constituting the halftone dot to be an actual non-output dot so as to reduce an amount of a coloring material of the halftone-dot portion. When the intensity of the image signal exceeds a predetermined value and is in a predetermined range, while maintaining contour dots, which are output dots contribute to formation of a contour of the halftone dot, to be the output dot, the image processing method makes a part of dots inside the contour dots to be the actual non-output dot.

  • Publication number: 20060290999
Abstract: An image processing apparatus includes an image reading portion that reads an image of an original to obtain image data; an extraction portion that extracts original attribute information for representing format type of the original from the image data; an information storage portion that stores the original attribute information; a data reduction portion that reduce a data amount of the image data; and a data transfer portion that transfer the image data through a network. The image reading portion obtains the image data while determining if the original attribute information is stored in the information storage portion. When it is determined that the original attribute information is stored in the information storage portion, the data reduction portion reduces the image data to be transferred by the data transfer portion.

Abstract: A multifunction device having a user interface that enables the selection of a particular region of a document image after an initial scan of a document that creates a preview (thumbnail) image of the document. Using a display on the multifunction device, a desired region of the image may be selected for to manipulating and final scanning. A selection box is displayed over the preview image to show the user the region that will be scanned. The user can then select an area of the image for further manipulation through the user interface by moving and/or resizing the selection box, zooming in/out, or erasing a region within the selection box.

  • Patent number: 7155069
Abstract: A first image enlargement processing section enlarges an original image to a specified size to generate an initial enlarged image. A domain block extraction section extracts a domain block image from the original image. A range block extraction section extracts a range block image from the neighborhood of the correspondence part of the domain block image in the initial enlarged image. A reduced range block preparation section reduces the range block image to the domain size to generate a reduced range block image. An enlarged range block preparation section enlarges the most similar range block image having the highest degree of similarity to an enlargement size to generate an enlarged pseudo domain block image. An enlarged image acquisition section 676 uses each enlarged pseudo domain block image to generate an enlarged image of the original image.

  • Patent number: 7154646
Abstract: An optical recording/reproducing apparatus having excellent resistance against vibration and noise. In recording, coherent light is polarization-modulated with a spatial light modulator to generate signal light and reference light whose polarization directions are crossed at right angles. The signal light permeates a polarizing beam splitter, and is incident to a quarter wavelength plate. The reference light passes through a passing hole, is diffused by a light diffuser and is incident to the quarter wavelength plate. The reference and signal light are converted into circularly polarized light which revolve in directions opposite to each other and condensed by a condenser lens, and then a predetermined area of an optical recording medium is irradiated with the reference and signal light. Thus, the reference and signal light are generated by modulating the incident light from the same light source and are coaxially incident to the polarizing beam splitter.
