Abstract: An electrostatographic printing apparatus comprises a charge receptor, and a transfer station for transferring a toner image from the charge receptor to a sheet by providing an electric field of predetermined magnitude at a transfer zone. The transfer station includes a rotatable transfer member, with a cleaning corotron associated therewith. A control system for maintaining a constant current at the transfer zone takes into account a current supplied by the cleaning corotron. The control system can also take into account current leakages associated with the transfer member.

Abstract: Video recordings of meetings and scanned paper documents are natural digital documents that come out of a meeting. These can be placed on the Internet for easy access, with links generated between them by matching scanned documents to a segment of the video referencing the scanned document. Furthermore, annotations made on the paper documents during the meeting can be extracted and used as indexes to the video. An orthonormal transform, such as a Digital Cosine Transform (DCT) is used to compare scanned documents to video frames.

Abstract: An enhanced thumbnail apparatus produces thumbnails in which one or more elements, such as a document header, or keywords specified by a user, are modified to facilitate review by the user. The enhanced thumbnails are produced by generating a reduced-size representation associated with the document, and modifying the appearance of at least one element in the reduced-size representation. The appearance of the at least one element may be modified by modifying its appearance while in a document format, and/or by modifying its appearance after being converted to a reduced-size representation.

Abstract: A paper document satchel is an ordinary piece of paper that functions as a fully functional document token repository by virtue of the data encoded in printed marks on the page. The paper document satchel provides a portable and functional way to transfer document, reference, owner, etc., information between computer systems.
Abstract: Method of making an electro-mechanical roll such as a bias transfer roll for use in an electrostatographic apparatus such as a printing or copying apparatus comprising a conductive core having a segmented layer of compressible material positioned in a tandem relation to another thereon to form a generally cylindrical roll.
Abstract: A user interface method and system for positioning graphical objects in the display area of a free form system. A selected object may operate in a first state where it can be moved to different positions within the display area. The selected object may further operate in a second state where movement of the selected object causes other graphical objects within its path of movement to also move. The state of the selected object is indicated by a visually distinct presentation of the graphical object, for example when in the first state the graphical object is shown to have shadow to provide the visual clue that it is “above” the other graphical objects in the display area. A user may dynamically switch between states based on signals provided to the system.

Abstract: Optimal summaries of a linear media source are automatically produced by parameterizing a linear media source. The parameterized linear media source is used to create a similarity array in which each array element includes the value of a similarity measurement between a two portions of the parameterized media signal. A segment fitness function, adapted for measuring the similarity between a segment of the parameterized media signal and the entire parameterized media signal, is optimized to find an optimal segment location. The portion of the linear media source corresponding to the optimal segment location is selected as the optimal summary. This method produces optimal summaries of any type of linear media, such as video, audio, or text information.
Abstract: The method of manufacturing an electric part including a matrix-shaped nonconductive base member, and a carbon nanotube group that is sealed within the nonconductive base member and includes at least one of a carbon nanotube and a plurality carbon nanotubes that are electrically connected to each other. According to the method, substantially only an end portion of the carbon nanotube or at least carbon nanotube contained in the plurality of carbon nanotubes may be exposed from one surface of the nonconductive base member, and an electrode may be connected to a side surface of at least one carbon nanotube included in the carbon nanotube group.
Abstract: A structured document management system for managing a structured document is disclosed, the system including: an element registration unit for registering attribute information and content information about each of elements in the structured document as element information; a structural information registration unit for registering relations between the elements in the structured document as binary format structural information; and an information retaining unit for retaining the element information registered by the element registration unit as records of a relational database while preserving the binary format structural information registered by the structural information registration unit.
Abstract: An ink stick for a phase change ink jet printer has a guide element formed in one portion of the ink stick body (such as the lower portion) for engaging a feed channel guide rail in a feed channel of a solid ink feed system of the printer. The guide element is substantially offset from the lateral center of gravity of the ink stick body. The guide element engages a feed channel guide rail in the printer. The feed channel guide rail is substantially narrower than the width of the feed channel. A second guide element is formed on the opposite side of the lateral center of gravity of the ink stick body. The second guide element engages a second feed channel guide rail in the feed channel.
Abstract: A method of interfacing a client with a job-based print device is disclosed. The method disclosed is a method for processing multiple document jobs of varying complexity and purpose, as they arrive from the network, where a job is a transaction or a set of transactions, involving print data and other input and output from the print device, and a document is a single bounded stream of data, which may be a print job or one assertion in the context of a transaction. The method includes receiving client data before it reaches a print communication protocol module. Any or all of the following capabilities may be demonstrated. Raw page description language data is distinguished from other client data and it is determined if the raw page description language includes a request which requires the attention of a specific interpreter and a temporary realignment of job management. The request is processed. An interface which processes client data is disclosed.
Abstract: A circuit board device suppress with a small number of terminal elements unwanted irradiation originating between a power supply layer and a ground layer, even when a configuration of the power supply layer and the ground layer on the circuit board is complex, and a design support device thereof. The circuit board device has a power supply layer and a ground layer disposed in opposition to one another. A dielectric is disposed between the power supply layer and the ground layer. A power supply surface is divided into two power supply surfaces and by a slit having a generally T-shaped configuration to form power supply surface edges. The power supply surface edges retain across a predetermined length L a characteristic impedance present between the power supply layer and the ground layer. A terminal load is connected to a terminal portion of the power supply surface edges.
Abstract: What is disclosed is a method for maintaining consistent color output across printers even when the inline sensors have differences in accuracy due to various technical and environmental factors. A spectrophotometer is used to measure the color quality of printed references. Adjustments are then iteratively made until reference charts of desired color quality are obtained. The printed reference allows one to achieve relatively high system performance by removing sensor inaccuracies. Using the printed reference measured by the inline sensor control systems of each machine are calibrated. At customer sites and at suitable intervals, a reference document can be read using the inline sensor on a reference machine and any differences from expected values can be calibrated out.
Abstract: Without using a script that describes a procedure, document parts are extracted from structured documents and inserted or substituted in a template to synthesize a document. An extraction instruction to retrieve document parts, and repetitive duplication and insertion/substitution instructions are provided to the structured documents. Therefore, document part retrieval, repetitive duplication, and a document part (location) in which a document part is to be inserted or substituted are specified, and instructions retrieved from plural inputted structured documents are dynamically synthesized to create a document processing description, so that a document processing description script becomes unnecessary. Consequently, the inconvenience of managing scripts in addition to original documents is eliminated.
