  • Patent number: 7062183
Abstract: The present invention provides a recording media identifier for identifying types of recording media, and a recording device, provided with a recording media identifier, which records images by printing on recording media. A speckle measuring section of the recording device measures a speckle on a recording medium conveyed on a conveyance path. Types of recording media are detected through correlation of the speckle measured with speckles stored in a storage section, in a manner in which the speckles correspond to types of recording media. Recording and fixing conditions of the recording device are adjusted according to the types of the recording media detected.

  • Patent number: 7061493
Abstract: Personality traits displayed on a workbench are grouped into a character profile that is utilized in determining the personality and/or specific actions of a synthetic character. The personality traits are selectable by an operator from graduated dials. The personality traits may also be displayed in the form of selectable attributes or trait indicative behaviors that, when selected, are mapped into predetermined amounts of each trait in the character profile. The character profile is utilized to compute activation levels for primary behaviors, which are selected to influence or direct behavior of the synthetic character. Secondary behaviors are also selected, but discarded if conflicting with the selected primary behaviors. When behaviors are selected, the corresponding behaviors are translated into classes of ‘personality effectors’ that modulate the synthetic character's behavioral expression to reflect the desired set of traits.

  • Patent number: 7061505
Abstract: An image processing device can reproduce the original color of an electronic document on an output device faithfully and can simulate the appearance of color of a recorded product on a display device accurately. Color temperature information of an electronic document is recognized by an electronic document color temperature information recognition unit and delivered to a first color correction conversion unit. The first color correction conversion unit carries out color conversion based on the color temperature information of the electronic document so that a recorded product output from an output device assumes substantially the same color as the electronic document when it is observed under an illumination light source having a color temperature indicated by the color temperature information of the electronic document. An image is formed by the output device based on the color converted image signal to output the recorded product.

  • Patent number: 7062181
Abstract: Single-wire data communications with data storage memory units that may be coupled with a wirelessly energized power supply is enabled in electronic monitoring modules in customer replaceable units (CRUs) such as toner bottles in image forming devices. Communication between modularly designed office equipment and installed CRUs may include data transmission implemented by providing a single point of contact on, for example, a rotational axis at the closed end of a rotating CRU, or by placing a conductive patch, band ring on the periphery of such CRU such that a single-wire data transfer contact is effected with the CRU. A communications link is provided which is not adversely affected by dirt or other foreign objects and is not limited by necessary motion which must be imparted to the CRU for optimum operation in the modular equipment within which the CRU is installed, or other interference that may adversely affects a wireless communications link.

  • Publication number: 20060119620
Abstract: An image display apparatus has a time base display, a time base division unit and a correspondence display. The time base display displays a time base of the dynamic image information. The time base division unit divides the time base by each scene of the dynamic image information associated with the static image information. The correspondence display displays a range on the time base corresponding to the static image information when the static image information is designated. Thus, the image display apparatus displays the correspondence between dynamic image information and static image information associated with the dynamic image information.

  • Patent number: 7057141
Abstract: A thermal mass is characterized by a reference temperature. A thermal interrupter thermally interrupts the thermal mass upon contact. A look ahead processor examines the thermal interrupter ahead of anticipated contact with the thermal mass and determines an amount of anticipated thermal interruption. A PID gain calculator determines a PID gain for a control algorithm based on the determined amount of thermal interruption. A heater processor applies the control algorithm to a heater to heat the thermal mass to a prespecified start temperature which exceeds the reference temperature.

  • Patent number: 7058205
Abstract: A robust, adaptive, appearance model is disclosed that includes both a stable model component, learned over a long time course, and a transient component, learned over a relatively short time course (e.g., a 2-frame motion component and/or an outlier processing component). An on-line EM-algorithm is used to adapt the appearance model parameters over time. An implementation of this approach is developed for an appearance model based on the filter responses from a steerable pyramid. The appearance model is used in a motion-based tracking algorithm to provide robustness in the face of image outliers, such as those caused by occlusions. It is also provides the ability to adapt to natural changes in appearance, such as those due to facial expressions, or variations in 3D pose.

  • Patent number: 7058350
Abstract: A platen cover for an imaging device such as a copier or scanner includes a substrate and at least of portion of the surface of the substrate is coated with a fluorescent coating. Preferably, the substrate has a dark or black color. The dark color of the substrate substantially reduces or eliminates show through of an image on the backside of an original document when the platen cover is not exposed to a light source for imaging. At the same time, when holes or uneven borders are present in the original document, the fluorescent coating fluoresces upon exposure to the light source at these regions of the original document, making these portions appear white in the replicated image and thereby substantially reducing or eliminating the unsightly appearance of these portions as black portions in the replicated image.
