Abstract: A printer management method for managing printers available for an information processing apparatus, comprises the steps of obtaining the number of the printers registered to the information processing apparatus; and removing the registration of the printer meeting a prescribed condition, if the obtained registered number exceeds a prescribed value.
Abstract: A driver management method for managing a driver that is used when an output apparatus is used from a terminal apparatus, comprises monitoring a state of the output apparatus, and restricting availability of the driver according to the state of the output apparatus.
Abstract: The present invention provides a toner having a releasing agent, a binder resin and a colorant. The binder resin is contained in a form of particles, surfaces of which have 1.2 times or greater amount of a polar group-containing compound, or of a cross-linked compound, than insides thereof. A viscosity of the releasing agent, as determined by using a type-E viscometer provided with a cone plate having a cone angle of 1.34 degrees at 140° C., is 1.5 to 5.0 mPa·S. The present invention further provides a developer containing a carrier and the toner. The present invention further provides an image forming method that utilizes the developer.
Abstract: A driver managing method using a driver managing apparatus for managing a driver corresponding to an output device connected through a network, comprising: monitoring a change in a network environment including the presence or absence of a connection to the network; and detecting the output device connected to the network when the connection to the network has been confirmed, and installing the driver corresponding to the detected output device.
Abstract: An optical recording material which includes at least one of a polymer and an oligomer, the at least one of a polymer and an oligomer comprising a photoresponsive group. The optical recording material records information through change in at least one of absorption, refractive index and shape due to irradiation of light thereto. A main chain of the at least one of a polymer and an oligomer has a side chain comprising a mesogenic unit linked thereto. The side chain comprises at least two flexible spacer groups introduced thereto, the spacer groups having lengths different from each other.
Abstract: A controller (4) for controlling a printer engine (7) used to print data on a medium determines an identification number based on received data, and prints the identification number together with print data based on the received data on the medium. Simultaneously, the controller (4) stores therein the identification number and the print data in an HD (6). With the construction, the identification number printed on the medium is inputted in the next and later printing operations. The controller (4) searches the HD (6) to retrieve and print the print data. Therefore, a copy of a quality as high as that of the original document can be produced.
Abstract: A document image capture (scanning) system and control method are described for scanning and processing document images received live from a camera. A motion detector detects image motion between two image frames. When the image is stationary, image processing (such as OCR) is carried out automatically and made available to the operator. In one form, when movement is detected, the image processing results are discarded until the image is newly stationary, whereupon new image processing is carried out on the new image. In another form, the degree of movement is evaluated; if the movement is small, then at least some of the previous image processing results are re-used by re-mapping on to the new image.

Abstract: A method for adjusting fractional amounts of primary colors to be combined to substantially match a user selected color and substrate characteristics in a device adapted to color printing on a substrate. The method corrects for both the color and the reflectivity of the substrate on which the user selected color is to be printed. The method adjusts the target mixed ink transmission spectrum to compensate for the substrate characteristics. The method also identifies cases in which the target mixed ink transmission spectrum may not be compensated due to the paper's color. The method may be used to control mixing of inks in a custom color module of a marking engine; or mixing of dry toner primaries in a dry xerographic engine; or mixing of printing inks in a stand-alone ink mixing station.
Abstract: A method for calibrating a VCO within a phase locked loop circuit is disclosed. First, a DAC output voltage is set to its minimum, and a counter M is adjusted until a comparator is its threshold voltage. Next, the DAC is set to another voltage, and counter M is again adjusted to the comparator threshold. This process is repeated for as many steps as desired. When the phase locked loop circuit requests an instantaneous frequency, an interpolation of the requested frequency against the curve created by the above-described method gives the value required by the DAC.
Abstract: A method and system for image processing, in conjunction with classification of images between natural pictures and synthetic graphics, using SGLD texture (e.g., variance, bias, skewness, and fitness), color discreteness (e.g., R_L, R_U, and R_V normalized histograms), or edge features (e.g., pixels per detected edge, horizontal edges, and vertical edges) is provided. In another embodiment, a picture/graphics classifier using combinations of SGLD texture, color discreteness, and edge features is provided. In still another embodiment, a “soft” image classifier using combinations of two (2) or more SGLD texture, color discreteness, and edge features is provided. The “soft” classifier uses image features to classify areas of an input image in picture, graphics, or fuzzy classes.

Abstract: In a system where the color space conversion process uses color profile look-up tables to select a profile for each of the possible attribute value combinations, assigning a value of wildcard to one or more attributes. In this case, if all of the values of one of the attributes can not be exactly matched, and that attribute has a wildcard value, the wildcard value is selected. The profile associated with the wildcard is designed to enable a reasonable color conversion in any case where an attribute calls for a particular value and the printer does not have a corresponding profile. The result is that the printer will most likely still print a reasonable image in the case where there is no matching profile.
Abstract: Disclosed is a process for preparing a tetra-amide which comprises carrying out a condensation reaction between a diacid, a monoacid, and a diisocyanate, thereby forming a tetra-amide. Also disclosed is a process for preparing a phase change ink composition which comprises (a) carrying out a condensation reaction between a diacid, a monoacid, and a diisocyanate, thereby forming a tetra-amide; and (b) admixing the tetra-amide thus formed with a colorant, thereby forming a phase change ink.

Abstract: A sacrificial circuit connector for interposition between male and female connector terminals for applications in which the expected connect and disconnect cycles may exceed the rated cycle limits of at least one of the connector terminals. The structure of sacrificial connector is largely determined by the need for connection compatibility between the sacrificial connector and the connector terminals. By making repeated disconnections at the sacrificial connector rather than between the connector terminals, the usable life of at least one connector terminal can be significantly increased, thereby adding efficiency and reliability while decreasing costs.

A method for generating item recommendations includes: providing an item to a device having an application for engaging a repetitive activity with the provided item, wherein the repetitive activity occurs primarily during standalone operation of the device; generating a history of user interaction with the provided item, wherein user interaction includes engaging in the repetitive activity with the provided item; transforming the history of user interactions into an implicit rating of the provided item; and using the implicit rating of the provided item to generate recommendations of other items.
Abstract: An out-of-plane micro-structure which can be used for on-chip integration of high-Q inductors and transformers places the magnetic field direction parallel to the substrate plane without requiring high aspect ratio processing. The photolithographically patterned coil structure includes an elastic member having an intrinsic stress profile. The intrinsic stress profile biases a free portion away from the substrate forming a loop winding. An anchor portion remains fixed to the substrate. The free portion end becomes a second anchor portion which may be connected to the substrate via soldering or plating. A series of individual coil structures can be joined via their anchor portions to form inductors and transformers.

Abstract: An optical micro-electro-mechanical system (MEMS) switch is disclosed. In a preferred embodiment the optical MEMS switch is used as an M×N optical signal switching system. The optical MEMS switch comprises a plurality of optical waveguides formed on a cantilever beam platform for switching optical states wherein the state of the optical switch is changed by a system of drive and latch actuators. The optical MEMS device utilizes a latching mechanism in association with a thermal drive actuator for aligning the cantilever beam platform. In use the optical MEMS device may be integrated with other optical components to form planar light circuits (PLCs). When switches and PLCs are integrated together on a silicon chip, compact higher functionality devices, such as Reconfigurable Optical Add-Drop Multiplexers (ROADMs), may be fabricated.
