Abstract: An electrophotographic marking device includes a xerographic marking module and an environmental control module which controls temperature and relative humidity inside the marking module. The environmental module has a main plenum chamber and a divided or split plenum chamber to create and supply two air streams with different temperatures and/or different humidities and/or different airflow volumes and/or airflow rates to a marking engine. A primary air stream plenum chamber is closed loop controlled by input from one or more temperature and/or humidity sensors in the xerographic module. A secondary air stream plenum chamber is open loop controlled by means of one or more temperature and/or humidity sensors in one or mode developer housings. Heating of the secondary air stream is achieved by heat generated in the developer housing(s) and/or one or more heaters distinct from the developer unit elements. The system achieves balanced, thermodynamically adjusted, air flows.

Abstract: A highly efficient method and system for eliminating halftone screens from scanned documents while preserving the quality and sharpness of text and line-art is disclosed. The method and system utilizes a single channel screen frequency estimator module, which generates a screen frequency estimate for image data. The module generates a signal based on the highly filtered image signal at low contrast levels, and based on a reliable estimate to the halftone frequency at higher contrast levels. The single channel screen estimate module has adequate performance in resolution ranges from 300 to 600 dpi.

Abstract: To reduce the trade-off between image quality and marking speed, high-resolution data for an image is evaluated, and an output value is created based on the evaluation of the high-resolution data. Abstract: The present invention provides a method for treating fine particles contained in a first fluid comprising: feeding the first fluid containing the fine particles and a second fluid to generate two laminar flows; migrating a diffusible substance contained in the first fluid into the second fluid at an interface between the first fluid and the second fluid in the laminar flows; and separating the laminar flows into the first fluid containing the fine particles and the second fluid in a diverging region.
Abstract: The image data is initially processed in a manner that is similar to that used to convert the image data into 3-layer mixed raster content format. After the image data is initially processed through a first stage of the three-layer segmentation process, rather than completing the segmentation into foreground and background planes, the image data is analyzed to identify regions having similar image characteristics. These regions are grouped together in cluster if they share color characteristics and are spatially close. The clusters are then sorted according to their size, and placed into a binary foreground plane based on one or more color characteristics. Each cluster gathered into a binary foreground plane having the same color as the color of the cluster.

Abstract: An electrostatic image dry toner composition comprising a binding resin, a colorant, a releasing agent, and two or more kinds of inorganic oxide powders having different volume average primary particle diameters. Abstract: A method for identifying document edges collects a predetermined number scanlines of the document. Both first order and second order statistics are then calculated based on the scanned data. A first slope value being a function of the difference between a plurality of the first value and a second slope value being a function of the difference between a plurality of the second value are calculated. A document edge is detected using the first and second slope values.

Abstract: All threshold data applied to processing is read into a register so that threshold data read from threshold matrix memory can be recycled until the end of a scanning line for processing, and is selectively output to a plurality of comparison means for executing parallel comparison processing. The threshold data set in the register is shifted in order for repetitive use. The threshold data of the next scanning line is read into the register during the comparison processing, and upon completion of processing of one scanning line, comparison processing on the next scanning line is executed as pipeline processing. Threshold data read from the memory needs to be executed only once for each scanning line for processing, and threshold data can also be read during halftone data generation of the preceding line.

Abstract: A feature allows for removing an ink stick from an ink feed channel, through the keyed opening for that shape of ink stick. In a keyed key plate opening, a clearance area between the key plate opening and the outer perimeter of the ink stick provides access through which a removal tool can be inserted alongside an ink stick in the channel. In an example, the clearance area is provided by an outwardly directed section of the perimeter of the key plate opening. In a particular implementation, the edge key plate opening is chamfered across the thickness of the key plate, except for a small portion of the perimeter of the key plate opening, which has a straight edge. The end of the removal tool has a surface to engage the ink stick, so that pressing the removal tool against the ink stick, and drawing the removal tool back through the clearance area pulls the ink stick through the key plate opening.
Abstract: A modular device, that includes an operation event log in respective modules of the device to record time-stamped events, e.g., errors, and a configuration log in a central controller to keep track of changing configurations due to swapping or removal of modules. A controller updates the configuration log each time a module is added to or removed from the device. Log information may be stored locally with the device or in a remote server accessible via a network to facilitate remote diagnostics. To assist in diagnostics, the disclosed method includes merging the configuration and events logs in a way to display log entries according to a selected configuration where errors in current modules are demarcated. The apparatus includes routines in the controller to effect retrieval, processing, and display of demarcated events according to a selected configuration.
Abstract: A flexible optical element useful for optical wiring is provided, in which a light emitting portion is disposed to a core end face of a flexible polymeric optical waveguide channel sheet having a film substrate clad, a core and a clad layer covering the core. A method which enables of manufacturing the optical element in a simple and convenient manner at a low cost is also provided.
Abstract: Systems and methods of registering a sheet in an image reproduction, e.g., a xerographic, device use sheet parameters regardless of the tray or bin with which the sheets are associated, separate tallies of sheet registration correction factors for both sides of a sheet, and use registration errors detected on a first side of a sheet to generate correction factors concerning proper registration of the second side of that sheet. In embodiments, the systems and methods average registration errors for one particular side of a plurality of sheets to obtain a damped error signal that is taken into account for registration of subsequent sheets on each respective sheet side. In embodiments, the systems and methods determine variations between actual and target system performance to affect subsequent sheet flow and registration.
Abstract: The present invention provides a toner for developing an electrostatic latent image comprising of: toner particles containing at least a binder resin, a colorant and a releasing agent; wherein a volume-average particle diameter of the toner particles is in a range of about 5 to 8 ?m; an average of shape factor SF1 of the toner particles is in a range of about 125 to 140; and an arithmetical mean undulation height of the surface of the toner particles at the 90% point on the cumulative distribution curve is in a range of about 0.15 to 0.25 ?m. Further, the present invention provides an electrostatic latent image developer containing the toner. The invention also provides a method for producing the toner.
