  • Publication number: 20050163521
Abstract: A power supply for a hybrid scavengeless development (HSD) image forming system which generates three voltages, a mag voltage, a donor voltage and a wire electrode voltage. The power supply outputs square waveforms for generating the toner clouds to maximize the voltage push-pull on the toner without increasing the peak voltage level. The power supply also generates asymmetric waveforms for the mag AC, donor Ac and wire electrode voltage signals to avoid air breakdown at the wire electrode to donor interface while allowing maximum use of the voltage space. Finally, the power supply uses frequency modulation of the AC signals to suppress harmonic strobing of the wire electrodes.

  • Patent number: 6922542
Abstract: An image forming apparatus in which respective color visible images on tandem-arrayed plural photoconductor drums are sequentially overlay-transferred onto an intermediate transfer belt by application of a primary transfer voltage by intermediate transfer rollers, then the images are transferred at a time from the belt onto a print sheet by application of a secondary transfer voltage by a paper transfer roller. The same primary transfer voltage is applied to the respective color intermediate transfer rollers from one power source. In the intermediate transfer belt, a relative dielectric constant, a surface resistance and a volume resistance are controlled such that potential charged by initial transfer is attenuated to ? or lower than the transfer voltage before a belt position of the initial transfer arrives at a next transfer position.

  • Patent number: 6921575
Abstract: Carbon nanotube structures are provided, in which the networks with a desired area and volume, where the carbon nanotubes are electrically or magnetically connected, are formed and the method for easily manufacturing the carbon nanotube structures with less carbon nanotube structures. Carbon nanotube devices are also provided, to which the useful carbon nanotube structures mentioned above are applied. A method for manufacturing carbon nanotube structures includes the steps of applying carbon nanotubes to a low-viscosity dispersion medium to obtain a high-viscosity dispersing liquid which includes carbon nanotubes, and forming a network of the carbon nanotubes having electrical and/or magnetic connections therebetween by removing the low-viscosity dispersion medium from the high-viscosity dispersed liquid.

  • Patent number: 6921149
Abstract: A liquid drop discharging head includes a matrix array head that can reduce variations in a print density without reducing a recording speed. A liquid drop discharging device provided with this liquid drop discharging head can realize compatibility between recording an image at high speed and recording the high quality image. Ejectors are disposed alternately to form dots on a recording medium that are arranged in the order of alternating ejectors such as A, E, B, F, C, G, D, and H. The dots having a relatively large diameter and the dots having a relatively small diameter are mixedly disposed in a sub-scanning direction at predetermined pitches. Mixed arrangement of dots increases space frequency variations in a print density along the sub-scanning direction, thus, making it difficult for the human eye to sense the density variations, and ensuring a high uniformity in a recorded result.

  • Patent number: 6922487
Abstract: A device and method are described for capturing an image of a document using a digital camera. The invention includes a resolution analyzer for analyzing the resolution of text characters in the image, to assess whether the resolution is suitable for OCR. In one aspect, if the resolution is too small or too large, an indicator is generated to guide the user as to the corrective movement of the camera to improve the resolution for OCR. In a second aspect, an electronic zoom control is controlled to alter the magnification of the captured image, to correct the resolution. In a third aspect, a method is described for analyzing the image to determine the resolution according to the height of text characters in the image. The method includes analyzing the run lengths of pixels in the image to identify a predominant length corresponding to the average character height (in pixels).

  • Patent number: 6922327
Abstract: A new type of high-Q variable capacitor includes a substrate, a first electrically conductive layer fixed to the substrate, a dielectric layer fixed to a portion of the electrically conductive layer, and a second electrically conductive layer having an anchor portion and a free portion. The anchor portion is fixed to the dielectric layer and the free portion is initially fixed to the dielectric layer, but is released from the dielectric layer to become separated from the dielectric layer, and wherein an inherent stress profile in the second electrically conductive layer biases the free portion away from the dielectric layer. When a bias voltage is applied between the first electrically conductive layer and the second electrically conductive layer, electrostatic forces in the free portion bend the free portion towards the first electrically conductive layer, thereby increasing the capacitance of the capacitor.

  • Patent number: 6921449
Abstract: A method of manufacturing on a continuous basis quantities of seamed belts with imageable seams for printing systems from a continuous supply web of belt material, which seamed belts need to be manufactured to a desired circumference and width. In the disclosed embodiment the sides of the incoming supply web are cut in seam-forming mating edges and the web is fed in at an angle to a pair of rollers, at least one of which is tapered, to spirally wrap the web into a cylinder of the desired circumference of the seamed belts and providing mating engagement and gluing of the seam-forming edges. Then by sequentially transversely cutting off cylindrical segments of that spirally formed cylinder into the desired width, multiple seamed belts are formed with both the desired circumference and width.
