Abstract: A refillable fluid container system having a communication channel between the manifold and fluid reservoir that allows air to vent from the manifold to an air accumulation area with in the fluid resevoir.
Abstract: Methods and apparatus provide for automatic fluid ejector alignment and performance evaluation and modification in one or multiple planes. A fluid ejector fires a drop through a drop detection module. A signal indicating drop presence or absence is sent to a computer. The computer analyzes the data, and makes a compensation determination of a preferred method of using the fluid ejector. The compensation determination may include electronically modifying the image data to be printed, physically manipulating the fluid ejector, completely skipping the fluid ejector during printing operations, or in some other way modifying the fluid ejector or image data such that apparent printed image error due to fluid ejector alignment or performance error is reduced.

Abstract: A system for maintaining alignment between a print head (18) and a transfer surface (34) of a drum assembly (38) includes a first contacting member (78, 80) carried by the print head. A first receiving member (82, 84) is carried by the drum assembly. A drive mechanism (20) translates the print head relative to the transfer surface. During translation of the print head relative to the transfer surface, the first contacting member maintains a sliding contact with the first receiving member.
Abstract: The present invention provides an image display medium including a pair of substrates disposed so as to face each other and first and second particles contained in space between the pair of substrates, wherein the first particles can be positively or negatively charged due to external stimulus and have one color and a particle size distribution in which at least one peak is present on a coarse side of the most frequent particle diameter of the first particles, and the second particles are not charged or can be charged due to the external stimulus to have polarity opposite to that of the first particles and have another color: and an image formation device comprising the image display medium and a generator for generating an electric field between the pair of substrates in accordance with an image to be displayed.
Abstract: An image forming apparatus includes an image forming unit which forms an image on a recording medium, a post-processing unit which performs a post-processing on the recording medium on which the image is formed by the image forming unit, and a post-processing controller which controls the post-processing unit according to whether an image requested by a user or a test image is formed on the recording medium. An image forming method includes, in a case where the requested image and the test image are formed on plural recording media, controlling the post-processing according to whether the requested image or the test image is formed on the recording medium, and according to the control, performing the post-processing on the recording medium on which the requested image or the test image is formed.
Abstract: A drive assembly for a printer includes an endless loop drive path and guide structure that allows a printhead to operate in either reciprocal or endless loop modes in which the printed traverse both a liner and an arcuate portion of the drive path. This provides a printer architecture in which a printhead may be endlessly driven at a constant speed in one direction to provide multiple print swaths separated spatially. This eliminates the need for decleration/acceleration changes required in reciprocal printer architectures and is capable of increased throughput by defining arcuate turnaround zones that can be traversed by the printhead faster than the time it takes to slow, stop and reverse a conentional reciprocal printhead assembly. This robust printer architecture also allows flexibliity in use of multiple printheads with simultaneous printing, simultanouse both side printing, and duplex capabilities.
Abstract: A printing apparatus and method for replacing or augmenting a misplaced black or color pixel during printing with a properly placed black, gray, or color pixel; and for altering the pass in which a black or color pixel is printed by a printhead to improve print quality.
Abstract: Methods for automated uniformity assessment and modification of image non-uniformities using an image measurement device capable of determining image reflectance and/or transmitter as a function of position, such as a spectrophotometer, a calorimeter, and/or a densitometer. One or more of these devices scan an image on a substrate, such as a sheet, thereby generating data representing image characteristics, such as, for example, image non-uniformity. The sheet may contain a reference/test pattern including one column, strip or patch intended to have a uniform density. This data generated by the device after the scan of the substrate is analyzed with signal processing algorithms for image characteristics assessment, including image spatial uniformity and compared to reference image characteristics including image spatial uniformity. An image modification profile may be generated to be applied to a marking system to thereby alter subsequent image data and improve image spatial uniformity of the marking system.

Method and apparatus for recycling the coated moldings are also described in which the coated moldings are crushed by means of a crusher and the crushed moldings are molded in a mold to provide fresh moldings, followed by coating, by means of a coating device, the fresh moldings on surfaces thereof with a paint constituted of a thermoplastic resin having affinity for the thermoplastic resin for the moldings.
Abstract: A system and method that converts legacy and proprietary documents into extended mark-up language format which treats the conversion as transforming ordered trees of one schema and/or model into ordered trees of another schema and/or model. In embodiments, the tree transformers are coded using a learning method that decomposes the converting task into three components which include path re-labeling, structural composition and input tree traversal, each of which involves learning approaches. The transformation of an input tree into an output tree may involve labeling components in the input tree with valid labels or paths from a particular output schema, composing the labeled elements into the output tree with a valid structure, and finding such a traversal of the input tree that achieves the correct composition of the output tree and applies structural rules.
Abstract: Systems and methods for creating and updating interactive 3D visualizations of media indices wherein separate indices are located above and below a ground plane. The indices are organized in table structure defined by two axes and provide links to the media that is indexed. Various visual characteristics of the indices communicate characteristics of the media that is indexed as well as various user defined or group defined information relating to the indexed media.
Abstract: In an environment which produces images as a function of the combination of cyan, magenta, yellow and black color components on an output print, there is provided a method that 1) increases area coverage of a color that is below the threshold of development stability and 2) removes the very low area coverage color and replace it with black.

Abstract: A multi-function device is arranged to perform a plurality of functions. Each function includes a plurality of parameters. Each parameter has a current value from a plurality of parameter allowed values. Each parameter current value is preset to a default value and the device's current function is preset to a primary function. Dedicated user function buttons are provided to modify the device's current function to a desired function as needed for a particular job. Once the desired function is selected, the device is further arranged with dedicated parameter buttons so the user can select one or more parameters and then modify the selected parameters' current values as needed for the job. After running the job with the modified current function and the modified parameter current values, the modified parameters are reset to their default values and the device's current function is reset to the primary function.

Abstract: A method and system of designing a digital halftoning screen for forming images on output sheets according to a set of image signals. The method generates a halftone line screen having multiple levels, each level having multiple line segments, each line segment having an equal pre-determined number of elements. The method stochastically assigns threshold values to pixels corresponding to a first element within the multiple line segments of a first level and assigns a same threshold value to a pixel corresponding to a single level to create a first element stochastic fill sequence. The method then assigns threshold values to pixels corresponding to a first element within the multiple line segments of the remaining levels of the halftone line screen according to the first element stochastic fill sequence.
