Abstract: Methods and apparatus for antialiasing images that contain one or more image objects such as colored text, line art, and graphical objects, such that the edge pixels of an antialiased image object will exhibit relatively uniform values, and the appearance of the image object is thereby improved. In one embodiment, an improved antialiasing filter is employed to detect at least one region within the received image. Upon detecting a region containing a background image level that adjoins an image object having pixel values in a range other than a range of limit values, the antialiasing filter sets the pixel values of the edge or border pixels of the image object to substantially the same value. Selection among a logical filter operation and an averaging filter operation may be adaptively employed in the antialiasing filter in order to obtain the desired uniformity of pixel values.
Abstract: When a hardware or software problem reoccurs, a customer is rarely able to remember and repeat the process that was performed by a customer service representative to correct the problem the first time. By capturing desktop events and/or one or more other available data streams during the first customer service engagement, and making a document containing that data available to the customer, the customer can solve a reoccurrence of the problem without having to contact the customer service center. The captured data is integrated into a single multimedia document, which has an indexing capability, highlights critical information, and includes annotations and/or comments. The integrated multimedia document can be distributed to the customer by the customer service representative during an engagement, over a customer accessible network site visited by the customer, or in a CD-ROM provided with the product.
Abstract: The present invention is a charging device that electrically charges an object that is charged while being moved in a predetermined direction and an image forming device having such a charging device. The charging device has: a charging member that electrically charges the charged object; a power source that supplies electric power to the charging member in order to electrically charge the charged object; a contact member arranged downstream relative to the charging member as viewed in the moving direction of the charged object and adapted to contact the charged object directly or by way of a predetermined intermediary medium; an ammeter that gauges an electric current caused to flow through the contact member due to an electric charge on the charged object electrically charged by the charging member; and a power source control section that controls the power source based on the electric current gauged by the ammeter.
Abstract: A new information embedding technology is disclosed using conjugate screen concept. More specifically, two screens are applied in a halftoning process, one for the areas that corresponds to the symbol to be embedded (object), and one for the background. Both screens can be conceptually decomposed into a two-layer structure similar to supercells. The top layer determines the overall halftone texture, while the bottom layer, which is conjugate for background and object, carries embedded data. The information can be retrieved digitally or optically. In embedding, there is no restriction of the symbol sizes. The computation is relatively simple and can be implemented in real time. In retrieval, it is relatively robust to registration errors.
Abstract: The present invention provides a process cartridge that is freely attachable to and detachable from a main body of an image forming apparatus and that includes a latent image bearing body and a developing device having a developer storage space for storing a developer, the image forming apparatus and an image forming method. The invention also provides another image forming method using a one-component magnetic toner that is employable in a wide region of from a low process speed to a high process speed while achieving a high fixing ability.
Abstract: A fluid ejector assembly includes a container that stores a fluid to be ejected, a heat sink attached to the container, and a die module bonded to the heat sink. The heat sink is molded from a polymer that has at least one thermally conductive filler material mixed into the polymer. The heat sink is shaped to dissipate heat. The fluid ejector assembly is manufactured by mixing the at least one thermally conductive filler material with the polymer, molding the heat sink using the polymer and thermally-conductive filler material mixture, and attaching the heat sink to a die module and, optionally, to a fluid-containing container.
Abstract: The present invention can easily change an accommodatable number of discharge sheet. Further, the present invention provides a sheet processing device that can easily change the accommodatable number of discharge sheet while aiming to miniaturize the device itself. The present invention provides a sheet discharge device that is incorporated as a part of a processing device body and discharges a sheet processed at a processing section in the processing device body toward a sheet stacking section disposed at an upper section of the processing device body, the sheet discharge device having a unit receiving section formed at the processing device body, wherein plural sheet discharge units each having a different specification can be attached to the unit receiving section. Further, the present invention includes a sheet processing device using the same.
Abstract: Substrates are received by a compiling mechanism and compiled into sets. Incoming sheets are tamped by a tamping system into position on the compiling platform to register the sheets. The compiler platform mechanism includes two narrow, low-friction panels that are driven in opposite directions. The compiled and registered sheets sets can be manipulated by a manipulation device, to be stapled, punched, stitched, etc. The compiled, manipulated and registered sheet sets can be dropped onto an output catch platform located below the compilation platform. The compiling platform includes two retractable panels that slide open to allow the compiled set to drop to the output catch platform below. Once the set is dropped, the compiling platform panels are driven back to their original position in order to receive another set. Alternatively, the compiled and registered sets can be ejected from the compiling platform to a subsequent, downstream device.

Abstract: A laser array and a reflection surface of a rotary polygonal mirror are set in an afocal and conjugate relation by a collimator lens. The reflection surface of the rotary polygonal mirror and a scanning position of a peripheral surface of a photosensitive drum are set in an afocal and conjugate relationship by first and second cylinder mirrors. Therefore, plural light beams emitted from light emission points of the laser array are made incident on and deflected by the reflection surface of the rotary polygonal mirror, in a parallel state and without forming an angle with respect to the subscanning direction. The plural light beams are then incident on the peripheral surface of the photosensitive drum in a parallel state and focused thereon. Accordingly, bow difference and pitch deviation are decreased regardless of an interval between light emission points for output of the respective light beams.
Abstract: An image reproduction system enables an operator to switch between different sets of finishing instructions by switching a shadow job ticket between an active state and an inactive state. Ticket management software assembles a composite job ticket having finishing instructions and provides those instructions to a printer. If the shadow job ticket is in its active state, finishing instructions from a base job ticket are superceded by corresponding instructions from the shadow job ticket. If the shadow job ticket is in its inactive state, the ticket management software assembles a composite job ticket without using the shadow job ticket.
Abstract: An adaptive image enhancement filter includes a template matching module for comparing an observed pixel pattern comprising a target pixel and one or more neighboring pixels to a set of templates to determine if the observed pixel pattern matches any of the templates. The template matching module generates a match identifier signal indicating which of the templates, if any, the observed pixel pattern is found to match. Based on this match identifier, a signal generation module provides an enhanced output signal for the target pixel. The template matching and/or the signal generation modules can be independently modified to adapt to changing conditions as identified by signals identifying image attributes and marking process attributes.
Abstract: The present invention provides an image forming method comprising the steps of forming an electrostatic latent image on a surface of an electrostatic latent image bearing body, forming a toner image by developing the electrostatic latent image by using a toner, transferring the toner image to the surface of a recording medium, and fusing the transferred toner image on the surface of the recording medium by bringing the toner image into contact with a heating medium, which has a resin coating layer formed on the surface thereof, and thereby melting the toner image. The toner contains a binder resin containing monomers having vinyl double bonds. A storage elasticity of the toner at 180° C. is in a range of 1×103 to 8×103 Pa and a contact angle of the surface of the heating medium to water at 25° C. is in a range of 50 to 100°.
