  • Patent number: 6842541
Abstract: Methods and systems for adaptively thresholding color image pixels are based on determining a signed (e.g., a plus or minus sign) single-component gray image which can be supersampled and binarized. The method computes the distance of a given color image pixel from an idealized plane which segments the color space into two regions. The process is made adaptive by making the threshold a function of neighborhood pixels. This combines the information from all color channels, such as, for example, 3 or 4 color channels, into a high quality gray channel used for binarization.

  • Patent number: 6842876
Abstract: A document storage management system and method that manages the storage of documents based upon the similarity of the content of the documents. Groups of documents are created based upon the similarity of the contents of the documents. Those groups are displayed to the user in a ranked list of selectable groups to permit selection of a group or document. The storage of the selected group or document is then managed by, for example, deleting, compressing, or copying. The displayed list may be ranked based upon a least recently used policy, the relevance to a predetermined topic, the size of the group, the radius of the group based upon the maximum distance of any document from the group centroid, the number of documents in the group and any other combination of parameters.

  • Patent number: 6842278
Abstract: A method for manufacturing an image displaying medium is provided in that a display element in the form of powder can be filled between facing substrates. After patterning spacer particles on a first flat substrate supplied from a first film roller set on a first roller shaft by a first electrostatic coating device, they are fixed by a first fixing device to form a spacer on the first flat substrate, and then black particles are coated, on the entire surface by a second electrostatic coating device. After coating white particles thereon by a third electrostatic coating device, the black particles and the white particles on the upper part of the spacer are removed by a blade, and a second flat substrate supplied from a second film roller set on a second roller shaft is superimposed, followed by fixing the upper part of the spacer and the second flat substrate by a second fixing device.

  • Patent number: 6840612
Abstract: An ink stick for a phase change ink jet printer has a guide element formed in one portion of the ink stick body (such as the lower portion) for engaging a feed channel guide rail in a feed channel of a solid ink feed system of the printer. The guide element is substantially offset from the lateral center of gravity of the ink stick body. The guide element engages a feed channel guide rail in the printer. The teed channel guide rail is substantially narrower than the width of the feed channel. A second guide element is formed on the opposite side of the lateral center of gravity of the ink stick body. The second guide element engages a second feed channel guide rail in the feed channel.

  • Patent number: 6842854
Abstract: To provide a method of implementing cache logic technique in which total data processing time can be reduced, input data divided into block is sequentially processed in units of block in plural circuits using a programmable logic device provided with a circuit information input controller, a programmable logic circuit sector and a data cache. The plural circuits are sequentially reconfigured in the programmable logic device and execute processing per plural blocks which can be stored in the data cache. Intermediate data in units of plural blocks is stored in the data cache to be input data to a reconfigured circuit and intermediate data as the result of the processing by the reconfigured circuit is overwritten to the data cache. When the processing of the plural circuits is finished, the result of the processing is output to an external device without being stored in the data cache.

  • Publication number: 20050005016
Abstract: In a meeting held with employment of a plurality of materials, conditions of this meeting are recorded in the form of continuous data, and these materials are distributed to a user P who participates in this meeting byway of a printed matter and/or a screen output. Then, an analyzing unit analyzes the recorded continuous data so as to specify both a material and a place of the continuous data where this material was used. Also, an annotation/material relating unit specifies both an annotation which was added to a distributed material by the user in the meeting and this distributed material. A material matching unit judges a matching characteristic between these specified material and distributed materials. Then, are lating unit links the place of the continuous data where the material having the matching characteristic was employed with respect to the annotation of the distributed material.

  • Publication number: 20050002683
Abstract: A recording medium supplied from any one of paper supply units is printed by an image forming section, and then, the image-formed recording medium is transported via a transport path which is formed along a vertical direction, and thereafter is ejected to an ejection unit which is provided at an upper portion of an image forming apparatus main body. While a developing apparatus of a process cartridge owns a developer storage space, a latent image writing position “P” of an image carrier optically written by an optical writing apparatus is located lower than at least a portion of this developer storage space, and a space defined between the paper supply unit 1 8a and the optical writing apparatus is made small.

  • Publication number: 20050002647
Abstract: A hypervideo summary comprised of multiple levels of related content and appropriate navigational links can be automatically generated from a media file such as a linear video. A number of algorithms and selection criteria can be used to modify how such a summary is generated. Viewers of an automatically-generated hypervideo summary can interactively select the amount of detail displayed for each portion of the summary. This selection can be done by following explicit navigational links, or by changing between media channels that are mapped to the various levels of related content. This description is not intended to be a complete description of, or limit the scope of, the invention. Other features, aspects, and objects of the invention can be obtained from a review of the specification, the figures, and the claims.

  • Publication number: 20050002064
Abstract: Apparatus and methods for de-screening an image signal utilizing a bank of filters to provide several increasingly blurred versions of the original image signal is disclosed. At any given time, one or more of the blurred versions are created, on a pixel-by-pixel basis. The outputs from a selected pair of blurred signals are then blended together to create a variable blending output that can vary smoothly from no blurring to maximum blurring in a smooth and continuous manner. In addition, the apparatus and methods provide enhanced text and line art by using a variable un-sharp masking mechanism with independent post-blur sharpening control, and detect and enhance neutral (no-color) output pixels.

  • Publication number: 20050002619
Abstract: A light-emitting device includes 16 vertical-cavity surface-emitting laser diodes (VCSELs) disposed like a 4×4 grid, for example, in a sufficiently narrower range than the end surface of an optical fiber. The 16 VCSELs disposed in the light-emitting device emit optical signals in the same direction. Since the VCSELs are disposed with a concentration in the sufficiently narrower range than the end surface of the optical fiber as described above, if the optical signals emitted from the VCSELs are spread, almost all optical signals generated by the light-emitting device are incident on the end surface of the optical fiber and are transmitted through the optical fiber.

  • Patent number: 6839067
Abstract: A method and apparatus for providing multi-resolution video to multiple users under hybrid human and automatic control. Initial environment and close-up images are captured using a first camera and a PTZ camera. The initial images are then stored in memory. Current environment and close-up images are captured and the an estimated difference between the initial and current images and the true image is determined. The estimated differences are weighted and compared and the stored images are updated. A close-up image is then provided to each user of the system. The close-up camera is then directed to a portion of the environment image having high distortion, and current environment and close-up images are captured again.
