  • Patent number: 6798541
Abstract: The result of integrating a halftone dot-shape can be clustered. When the edge of the halftone dot-shape extends across a “vertical” edge of a window, the window is altered until the edge of the halftone dot-shape no longer crosses either vertical edge of the altered window. The image density of the portion of the halftone dot-shape contained within the altered window is determined. The block of image density of the portion of the halftone dot shape contained within the altered window is aligned with the right edge, the left edge, split between the left and right edges, or clustered in the “center” of the altered window. An amount of the determined block that extends into the original sample window is determined. This amount extending into the original window determines the amount of image density to be generated in the final output image based on that sample location of the window.

  • Publication number: 20040187078
Abstract: Systems and methods for creating aesthetically pleasing visual image summaries from a collection of input images. The systems and methods determine a visual image summary by creating candidate partial layouts, assigning penalty scores to the candidate partial layouts based on a number of evaluation criteria, evaluating the penalty scores for the candidate partial layouts, and building upon the candidate partial layouts, beginning with the lowest scoring candidate partial layout first, to form complete layouts. The resultant visual image summary fits within a user defined area, maintains the order of the input images, and contains a relative small amount of aesthetically undesirable qualities.

  • Publication number: 20040184720
Abstract: An optical micro-electro-mechanical system (MEMS) switch is disclosed. In a preferred embodiment the optical MEMS switch is used as an M×N optical signal switching system. The optical MEMS switch comprises a plurality of optical waveguides formed on a cantilever beam platform for switching optical states wherein the state of the optical switch is changed by a system of drive and latch actuators. The optical MEMS device utilizes a latching mechanism in association with a thermal drive actuator for aligning the cantilever beam platform. In use the optical MEMS device may be integrated with other optical components to form planar light circuits (PLCs). When switches and PLCs are integrated together on a silicon chip, compact higher functionality devices, such as Reconfigurable Optical Add-Drop Multiplexers (ROADMs), may be fabricated.
