  • Patent number: 6803153
Abstract: An optical storage medium of the present invention enables storage of data with high precision at high speed, and rewriting of data at high speed without an erasing process. Optical storage, reading and retrieving methods and optical storage, reading, and retrieving apparatuses using the medium are also provided. The optical storage medium has at least a polarization-sensitive member having the photo-induced birefringence property, such as a member made of polyester polymer having cyanoazobenzene as a side chain. The above apparatuses have spatial light modulator capable of modulating polarization. The modulator provides information of bit of two-dimensional data to each corresponding pixel by application or non-application of a voltage, and modulates the polarization of the beam incident on each pixel. Thereby, a signal beam transmitted through the spatial light modulator having a spatial polarization modulation corresponding to the two-dimensional data is obtained.

  • Publication number: 20040197124
Abstract: A method and system is provided for splitting a print job lacking page independence into selected job portions wherein the job portions can be independently processed in a plurality of processing nodes into a printer dependent format for printing by a printer. The print job is searched for selected tokens/idioms known to normally generate a fault upon the independent processing if the print job were to be split into the selected job portions that were intended to be handled independently. The selected tokens found in the search are saved. The print job is then split into the selected portions and the tokens are then associated with the split job portions for guaranteeing processing independence during the processing by the processing nodes.

  • Publication number: 20040196328
Abstract: A printhead includes plural print elements grouped in blocks. The blocks are selected by a block selection unit to which an initial value is inputted. The initial value is kept in a memory unit, and the blocks are autonomously and periodically selected by the initial value kept in the memory unit. The initial value is variable, and the block selection unit changes the order of selected blocks using the changed initial value. Thus, displacement in the main scanning direction resulting from the periodically selected blocks can be eliminated.

  • Publication number: 20040196210
Abstract: While names of data and icons are displayed on a selection-purpose display medium, a user selects data. Since the selection-purpose display medium is constituted by such a display medium capable of displaying a moving picture, operability by the user may be guaranteed. The content of the data which is selected by the selection-purpose display medium is displayed on a contents-display-purpose display medium. Since the contents-display-purpose display medium is constituted by a display medium having a memory characteristic, power consumption may be reduced, and this display medium having the memory characteristic may be dismounted. Since the display screen for the selection operation and the display screen for the contents display operation are separately provided, the user can perform the work by viewing the content of the data in correspondence with the data, so that the work efficiency can be increased.

  • Publication number: 20040199399
Abstract: Even if there exists use restriction in each of devices on a network, cooperation instruction information is created to enable smooth execution of a cooperative processing. A script creation server performs user authentication of a client terminal and acquires user information. Next, the script creation server makes a retrieval request to a service retrieval server for services which the user can use at present, and transmits user information, and then, acquires a service list. When judging that a service is selected as one of structural elements of a job flow, the script creation server causes the user information to reflect the cost and the like required to perform the selected service. Then, the script creation server judges whether the job flow is completed, and creates a script on the basis of information relating to the job flow and I/F information when it is judged that the job flow is completed.
