Abstract: A toner removal apparatus for a reproducing machine has a cylindrical brush mounted for rotation in a closely fitting housing. The housing has an open side confronting a moving photoreceptor. Brush fibers extend through the housing open side into interfering contact with the photoreceptor and sweep toner therefrom. A slot in the housing parallel to the brush is connected to a vacuum source to draw air into the housing open side, through the brush fibers, and out the housing slot. First and second parallel bars are mounted on opposite sides of the housing slot and extend into contact with the brush fibers. The first bar compresses and then releases the brush fibers to flick toner therefrom. The second bar extends into the housing a lesser amount than the first bar and contacts the brush fibers without compression thereof, thereby providing an air seal, so that all of the air flows through the brush fibers.

  • Publication number: 20040131446
Abstract: A system for binding books includes a flexible binding material in the form of a stud having top and bottom caps. The stud is inserted into signature staples that protrude from the body of the signature to form stud holes. The binding material can be any material that is extremely flexible, including silicone, metals, etc., as long as it allows the signatures to open in a lay-flat manner either at the signature interfaces or in the body of any signature. The flexible binding material can also be used to temporarily bind pre-punched pages of a book by inserting the flexible binding material into the pre-punched holes to facilitate lay-flat opening of the book.

  • Publication number: 20040131251
Abstract: A target color signal pair extraction section extracts from color signal pairs each including an input color signal and a counterpart output color signal, a target color signal pair including a target input color signal and a counterpart target output color signal. An output vicinity color signal extraction section extracts from the color signal pairs, output vicinity color signals corresponding to input vicinity color signals, which are located in the vicinity of the target input color signal. A color signal pair accuracy calculation section calculates a color signal pair accuracy of the target color signal pair on the basis of a relation between the target output color signal and the plurality of output vicinity color signals.

Abstract: A heat roller having a cylindrical sheet-like heating element having a resistance member embedded in an insulating member. The sheet-like heating element is arranged between an inner tube and an outer tube. The outer tube is formed so as to be longer than the inner tube for reducing non-uniformity in heat of the heat roller. Further, a thermal expansion coefficient of a material of the outer tube is greater than that of a material of the inner tube. Moreover, a triple-tube heat roller is provided.

  • Publication number: 20040130731
Abstract: A linearly polarized light projector system projects linearly polarized light onto a subject. While polarizing filters are used for removing light specular-reflected on the subject, a reflected image after removal of the specular-reflected light is captured by image input systems different in view point. Even in the case where the subject is glossy, the number of points for measuring the shape of the subject is increased and range images improved in measurement accuracy can be acquired collectively.

  • Publication number: 20040130609
Abstract: In a disclosed optical scanner, an optical axis adjustment is made by moving a circuit board on which a light emitting device open-type semiconductor laser is mounted along a base face of an optical box. For a high-quality optical scanning, the circuit board is attached to the base face of the optical box. The invention provides a light emitting element open-type in which a semiconductor laser is disposed in an optical box which is almost hermetically sealed with a cover to avoid adhesion of dusts, electrostatic destroy, and deterioration in picture quality.

  • Publication number: 20040130733
Abstract: A printer scales up a pixel group to match the resolution of an input image with that of an output image. Further, if it is necessary to compress and retain image data during image formation processing, the printer performs preprocessing forming a part of compression processing and then performs scale-up processing of pixel data, thereby making it possible to decrease the processing load of the preprocessing and further provide a high compression ratio.

  • Patent number: 6760554
Abstract: An apparatus for cleaning an imaging surface with a cleaning blade including a drop seal actuator that urges a seal into position and then collects toner in a cleaner unit. The seal captures falling accumulated toner from the cleaning blade which may contaminate the xerographic area when the cleaning blade is retracted from the imaging surface. Implementation of the drop seal actuator in contact with the seal positions the seal to contain toner within the cleaner unit.

  • Patent number: 6758471
Abstract: An image-forming apparatus allows duplex print to be performed using tabbed sheets. A plurality of paper sensors A, B, C, D, E, and F are installed on a paper output side of a paper tray 20 in a direction perpendicular to a sheet transport direction. The location of a tab 12 and the tab length in the transport direction are determined from a difference in timings of the rise or fall of output signals from the paper sensors A-F. When the tab 12 is located on the leading edge of the sheet in the transport direction and does not traverse a transport control sensor X, operation timing of a device &agr; which is activated based on the timing of the rising of output signal from the transport control sensor X is advanced by an amount corresponding to the length of the tab 12. On the other hand, when the tab 12 traverses the transport control sensor X, or when a sheet without a tab is used, the operation timing is not advanced.

  • Patent number: 6760636
Abstract: A method extracts all “short” ambiguity from an input FST (i.e., ambiguities of one arc in length). The method factors the input FST into a first factor and a second factor such that the second factor contains all ambiguity that is one arc long, and the first factor contains all other parts of the input FST. The method a priori prevents the creation of some redundant intermediate symbols.

  • Patent number: 6758551
Abstract: An acoustic inkjet print head having the RF generator and amplifier located at the load location for directly driving the load is disclosed. In so doing the power distribution medium, e.g. transmission line and any power divider device are eliminated. The overall power efficiency can be near to the high efficiency amplifier. In the case of Class-E, greater than 90 percent efficiency can be achieved. Due to the miniaturization of components the high efficiency power supply can be shielded effectively to minimize EME and can be further be integrated to a MCM or IC.

  • Patent number: 6760505
Abstract: A method of aligning optical components is described. The system utilizes a highly transmissive sensor positioned in the optical path of an optical signal to determine the precise position of the optical signal. A feedback loop uses output from the highly transmissive sensor to readjust elements that maintains the optical signal in a desired position. The current system is particularly suitable for use in an optical cross switch.

  • Patent number: 6760056
Abstract: A method for rendering a raster output level determines an image position of a pixel of interest (POI) within an image. An intended raster output level, which corresponds to the POI, is received into a processing device. A final raster input level is determined as a function of the image position and the intended raster output level. The final input level and the image position are transmitted to an output device. An actual raster output level is rendered, via the output device, at a position on an output medium corresponding to the image position. The actual raster output level substantially matches the intended raster output level.

  • Patent number: 6760123
Abstract: Color documents are reproduced in black-and-white in a manner that preserves color information through halftoning. Each image element on a color document is assigned a tag on the basis of its hue angle. The tag associates with that image element a particular halftone cell. The halftone cell has a distinct pattern associated with a pre-selected range of hue angles. The halftone cell is then applied to the luminance component of the image element. The result is a black-and-white image in which different hues appear as different halftone cells having distinct patterns and variations in the luminance are represented by the density of the resulting halftone.
