Abstract: The present invention relates to the manipulation of differential gloss as may be inherent in halftoned images by utilization of tags. By selectively applying halftones with anisotropic structure characteristics, which are significantly different in orientation while remaining identical in density, as directed by tag settings, a gloss image may be superimposed within an image without the need for special toners or paper. Conventional copier systems will not typically be able to copy such a superimposed gloss image.

Abstract: A method of using ammonia to form a GaAs alloy with nitrogen atoms is described. The method includes the operation of introducing ammonia with an agent to assist in the breakdown of the ammonia into a reaction chamber with the GaAs film. Agents that are described include radiation as well as compounds that include aluminum.
Abstract: The system and method reduces aliasing which is formed by the patterns that are introduced by the halftone screens used in the printer. The system and method provides halftone-specific anti-alias filters for obtaining optimal effective resolution in printed images. A method of reducing aliasing in a digital image includes providing a digital image; selecting a halftone screen for halftoning the digital image, wherein the halftone screen has a directional component associated with it; filtering the digital image with an antialiasing filter, the antialiasing filter having been designed to have a directional frequency response that is optimized for the directional component of the selected halftone screen; and halftoning the filtered digital image.
Abstract: Methods, apparatus and program products for a context monitor that monitors communications between components in a monitored environment. The context monitor maintains a historical context of interactions between the components and analyzes the current monitored environment using the historical context and the composition of the components in the environment and returns a situational assessment of the environment.

Abstract: An ink jet printer includes a printhead and a print medium that move relative to one another in a printing direction. The printhead includes a plurality of ink delivery channels, and an ink outlet corresponding to each of the ink delivery channels. Each ink outlet includes at least two ink orifices offset from one another in a direction transverse to the printing direction, so that as the printhead traverses a print medium, control signals to the printhead can deposit two drops from each delivery channel, which drops are offset in the transverse direction, thereby permitting the use of smaller ink drops and a higher apparent print resolution for the image deposited on the print medium than the resolution of the print control signals in the transverse direction.
Abstract: A user-selectable and/or configurable system/process that ensures the destruction of data files a user wishes to completely erase from a NVM storage medium, such as a hard drive or removable disk. A system administrator can select secure erasure of every job upon its completion and can select secure erasure of at least one NVM of the marking device in which the system/process is used. Additionally, embodiments provide for user selection of secure job erasure via a UI of the marking device or a UI of driver software of the marking device implemented on a personal computer in communication with the marking device.
Abstract: Disclosed is an ink composition comprising a liquid ink vehicle, a colorant, and a cyclic siloxane monomer composition capable of undergoing a ring-opening polymerization process upon contact with an anionic base.
Abstract: An increasing nonlinear-filter represented as a plurality of basis elements along with the filter values at those basis elements by finding, for each output value k of the filter, all possible observations X that result in an output value k or greater. The set of all values that map to an output value k or greater have at least one minimal element at these are known in the art as basis elements. These basis elements are arranged in a list, numbered 1 through M. Constructing a table in which basis element number corresponds to the filter output value at that basis element. Thereafter, each of the N samples (X1, . . . , XN) is inspected in turn. For each sample X1, testing each of its possible values with its respective interval components wherein, if the M basis elements are A1, . . . , AM and if basis element number j is being inspected, then each value of X1 is tested against Aij. For each value of X1=t1, . . .
Abstract: Based on the density of an image formed on a photosensitive member or an image recording medium, an amount of correction for uniformalizing the image density in a main scanning direction of a light beam is set. Based on the set amount of correction, the intensity of a light beam in an image region is corrected within a range of one main scan.
Abstract: An image transfer apparatus with a scanner and a spectrophotometric sensor interacting logically with the scanner. When the scanner scans a medium containing a color image, the spectrophotometric sensor interacts with the scanner to aid in the automatic selection of a scanner color correction corresponding to the medium being scanned.

Abstract: A system, computer readable medium and method for searching for recently altered documents on the World Wide Web is provided. The method selects a server to be searched or crawled by a Web crawler based on a user selected ranking. Servers are ranked by a filter program which compares a user query with the content of a server and the frequency in which content is altered. A top percentage of ranked servers are crawled and the recently altered information, such as hyperlinks, are then provided to the user.

Abstract: A sheet separation and feeding system for measuring substrate bending stiffness and thereby basis weight on a real time basis. Provided is a corrugator having a plurality of parallel ribs, with one or more sheets of the substrate provided below the corrugator wherein a predetermined gap exists between a topmost sheet of the sheets and the corrugator. A vacuum is applied between the corrugator and the topmost sheet, wherein the vacuum is sufficiently large to raise the topmost sheet, thereby deflecting and bending it into a profile corresponding to the arrangement and size of the corrugator ribs and bending stiffness of the substrate. One or more sensors are provided for measuring the deflection of the topmost sheet. The vacuum, an air knife output and/or a fluffer output are then adjusted according to predetermined rules and the measured deflection.
