  • Patent number: 6644502
Abstract: Certain designs of paper feeding devices used in copiers and printers require that an edge of a stack of sheets be in close contact with a slanted surface. An apparatus engages an opposite edge of the stack to urge the stack against the slanted surface, so that the stack assumes a parallelogram shape. The apparatus includes a plate which is movable from a vertical, upright position to a slanted position. Means are provided to cause the plate to move to the slanted position in response to the closing of a paper tray of a printer or copier.

  • Patent number: 6647535
Abstract: Systems and methods to enable real-time and near real-time storyboarding on the World Wide Web in addition to a graphical user interface for video parsing and browsing the of the storyboard. Specifically, storyboarding can be accomplished on the World Wide Web by parsing an input video into representative or key frames. These frames then can be posted to a web document, or the like, for subsequent viewing by a user. This allows a video to be distilled down to the essential frames thus eliminating storage and bandwidth problems as well as eliminating the need for a user to view the entirety of the video. Furthermore, the graphical user interface allows a user to visually interact with an input video signal to determine the key or representative frames, or to retrieve video segments associated with already determined key frames.

  • Patent number: 6646247
Abstract: In a photosensitive device wherein a photodiode is operated by placing an initial fat zero charge thereon before the integration of a light-induced signal, the actual dark level signal created by the fat zero charge is sampled with each readout from the photodiode, and then retransferred to the photodiode. After integration, the sampled dark level is subtracted from the total signal level on the photodiode. In this way both fixed-pattern and thermally-induced noise is obviated.

  • Patent number: 6644785
Abstract: Low acoustic solid wave attenuation structures are formed with an electroformed nickel mold, and are incorporated within acoustic ink emitters, between the focusing lens and surface of an ink layer. The structures have characteristics of low attenuation of acoustic waves to increase the efficiency of acoustic wave transmission within the acoustic ink emitter. Using the described structures, acoustic ink printers can accurately emit materials having high viscosity, including hot melt inks.

  • Patent number: 6646657
Abstract: In a computer system comprising a screen, a screen saver determines if a predetermined time period lapses and, saves a screen when the predetermined time period has elapsed. When the screen saver runs, messages can be left, and, when a user is identified, he can gain access to the left messages.

  • Patent number: 6644766
Abstract: In a printing system with multiple printheads, a spot of ink is created on a recording medium using up to N drops of ink fired from an ejector of one of the printheads. Each printhead has an array of ejectors. A single power supply drives the ejectors of the multiple printheads. Each of the printheads delivers a single color such as cyan, magenta, yellow, or black. A memory, which is coupled to the multiple printheads, records a printfile. Values in the printfile record channel values. Each channel value specifies how many drops of ink to deliver onto the recording medium over a spot cycle. The spot cycles of the multiple printheads, which consist of one to N actuation intervals, are desynchronized by operating the spot cycles out of phase with each other. The spot cycles of two printheads, for example, are desynchronized by beginning the spot cycle of one printhead a non-multiple of N drops prior to beginning the spot cycle of the other printhead.

  • Publication number: 20030206170
Abstract: A method and apparatus for facilitating communication about a document between two users creates autonomous, animated computer characters, or avatars, which are then attached to the document under discussion. The avatar is created by one user, who need not be the author of the document, and is attached to the document to represent a point of view. The avatar represents the physical likeness of its creator. The avatar is animated, using an avatar scripting language, to perform specified behaviors including pointing, walking and changing facial expressions. The avatar includes audio files that are synchronized with movement of the avatar's mouth to provide an audio message.

  • Publication number: 20030208693
Abstract: A system is provided for improving security during data transfer. A transmitter side transfer controller (12) divides data to be transferred into a plurality of pieces, removes a portion of data from each piece and encrypts the piece, and uploads each encrypted piece to different relay servers (22) on the Internet (20). The transmitter side transfer controller (12) also provides a receiver side transfer controller (12) information indicating which piece is uploaded to which relay server (22) using a secure communication protocol. The data of the fragment removed from each piece is transmitted to the receiver side transfer controller (12) separately from the encrypted pieces. The receiver side transfer controller (12) downloads the encrypted pieces each uploaded to the relay server (22), decodes the encrypted pieces, complements the decoded data with the data of the fragment to restore the state before the removal, and assembles the restored pieces to obtain the original data to be transferred.
