Patent number: 6513909Abstract: A method of forming and moving ink drops across a gap between a print head and a print medium, or intermediate print medium, in a marking device includes generating an electric field, forming the ink drops adjacent the print head and controlling the electric field. The electric field is generated to extend across the gap. The ink drops are formed in an area adjacent the print head. The electric field is controlled such that an electrical attraction force exerted on the formed ink drops by the electric field is the greatest force acting on the ink drops. The marking device may be incorporated into a transfuse printing system having an intermediate print medium made of one or more materials that allow for lateral dissipation of electrical charge from the incident ink drops.Type: GrantFiled: March 30, 1999Date of Patent: February 4, 2003Assignee: Xerox CorporationInventors: Scott A. Patent number: 6514704Abstract: A method and mechanism for ensuring quality control in printed biological assays is provided. A multi-ejector system having a plurality of individual drop ejectors is loaded with a variety of biofluids. Biofluids include at least a carrier fluid, a biological material to be used in the testing, and markers, such as fluorescent dyes. Data regarding the biofluid loaded in each of the drop ejectors is stored along with an expected signature output of the biofluid. Particularly, the signature output represents signals from individual ones of the fluorescent markers included within the biofluid. Once a biological assay consisting of the biofluid drops has been printed, a scanner capable of detecting the markers scans the biological assay and obtains signature output signals for each of the drops of the biological assay.Type: GrantFiled: February 1, 2001Date of Patent: February 4, 2003Assignee: Xerox CorporationInventors: Richard H. Patent number: 6516096Abstract: An input image is subjected to transform by a DCT transforming unit 20. A coefficient analyzing unit 30 compares a predetermined coefficient and coefficient data 120, and obtains low-frequency image data 150 of the input image by a high-frequency coefficient masking unit 50 and an inverse DCT unit 60 on the basis of a result of that comparison. A pixel subsampling unit 70 receives this low-frequency image data 150, and generates a subsampled image on the basis of the aforementioned result of comparison. The subsampled image and coefficient information are transmitted to a decoding side. A decoding apparatus decodes an image on the basis of the subsampled image and the coefficient information.Type: GrantFiled: January 10, 2002Date of Patent: February 4, 2003Assignee: Fuji Xerox Co., Ltd.Inventors: Taro Yokose, Ikken So, Shunichi Kimura, Yutaka Koshi

Patent number: 6516413Abstract: An apparatus and method for user authentication for easily realizing the allocation of a complexity of rights when controlling access by a plurality of users to a plurality of objects. A verification apparatus sends to a proving apparatus required security information that shows the authority property required for access to an object, along with a challenge data and a modulo of a public key. A required security information inspection unit within the proving apparatus obtains the required security information stored in a response data memory and a control information representing a user's authority property stored in a control information memory. It then inspects whether an identifier of:the required security information is included in a list included in the control information. If the identifier is included, a response data is generated, upon! condition that all of challenge data, required security information, access ticket, control information and user identifying information are correct.Type: GrantFiled: February 4, 1999Date of Patent: February 4, 2003Assignee: Fuji Xerox Co., Ltd.Inventors: Toru Aratani, Rumiko Kakehi, Masaki Kyojima

Patent number: 6515764Abstract: A method and apparatus are described for detecting photocopier tracking signatures placed on documents produced by color photocopiers. The apparatus includes an input terminal that supplies digital image data representing an input document produced by a color photocopier. The digital image data includes a plurality of pixel values grouped together to form a plurality of color separations that represent the input document. The apparatus also includes an image processing unit that generates an output image based on the digital image data. The image processing unit generates the output image based on differences between corresponding pixel values of at least two of the plurality of color separations. The apparatus further includes an output terminal for displaying the output image to view the photocopier tracking signature. Color differences can be detected by combining two or more of the color separations into a resulting monochromatic image and then enhancing the resulting color differences.Type: GrantFiled: December 18, 1998Date of Patent: February 4, 2003Assignee: Xerox CorporationInventors: Keith T.
