  • Publication number: 20030039489
Abstract: A resilient contact blade includes a blade root and a blade tip. The blade is movable from an inoperative position in which the blade root is spaced from a print sheet contacting an imaging member by a first distance. The blade tip is spaced from the print sheet to an operative position in which the blade root is spaced from the print sheet by a second distance that is greater than the first distance. A blade deflector is located in the path of travel of the blade from the inoperative position to the operative position. While the blade is moving from the inoperative position to the operative position the blade engages the deflector. When the blade is in the operative position the blade is deflected by the deflector causing the blade tip to contact the print sheet and press the print sheet against the imaging member.

  • Publication number: 20030039490
Abstract: A contact blade, formed of a plurality of blade segments, is mounted parallel to and spaced form the imaging surface. A plurality of blade lifters, one blade lifter for each of the blade segments, are individually movable from an inoperative position immediately adjacent to the blade segments to an operative position. When in the operative position the lifters engage the blade segments and deflect the blade segments. This causes tips of the blade segments to contact a the print sheet contacting the imaging surface and press the print sheet against the imaging surface. A lifter activating device moves a current select number of adjacent blade lifters into the operative position.

  • Patent number: 6526156
Abstract: A system tracks and identifies view-based representations of an object through a sequence of images. As the view of the object changes due to its motion or the motion of its recording device, the object is identified by matching an image region containing the object with a set of basis images represented by an eigenspace. The eigenspace is generated from a training set of images which records different views of the object. The system identifies the object in the image region by simultaneously computing a transformation that aligns the image region with the eigenspace, and computing coefficients of a combination of linear eigenvectors that reconstruct the image region. This identification and tracking system operates when views of the object in the image are deformed under some transformation with respect to the eigenspace. Matching between the image region and the eigenspace is performed using a robust regression formulation that uses a coarse to fine strategy with incremental refinement.

  • Patent number: 6523928
Abstract: A method for treating a substrate is disclosed in which a propellant stream is passed through a channel and directed toward a substrate. Substrate pre-marking or post-marking treatment material is controllably introduced into the propellant stream and imparted with sufficient kinetic energy thereby to be made incident upon a substrate. A multiplicity of channels for directing the propellant and treatment material allow for high throughput, high resolution in-situ treatment. Marking materials and treatment materials may be introduced into the channel and mixed therein prior to being made incident on the substrate, or mixed or superimposed on the substrate without registration. One example is a single-pass, full-color printer.

  • Patent number: 6525749
Abstract: A system features a data input scheme in which the nature of the entered data is irrelevant until the requirement made to perform a function with respect to that data. It is only when it becomes necessary to perform a function with respect to the data that the determination of the nature of the data become important. The desired function, which may include editing, rearranging, moving, etc., then results in a determination of the nature of the data in order to enable implementation of that specific function. The nature of the data can be determined to be in the form of a list, table, or diagram.

  • Patent number: 6526240
Abstract: In a digital printing apparatus, such as a xerographic or ink-jet printer, test marks, such as halftone patches or fiducial marks for image registration, are generated on demand. Coordinates of a desired location of the test mark within an imageable area (such as on a print sheet or on a photoreceptor), as well as a selection of the desired type of test mark, are entered through a user interface. Also entered is data about conditions under which image-quality tests using the test marks are to be performed. Information about the test mark and test conditions is retained as a small number of scalar values. The system enables test methods for a machine to be changed easily, and a basic set of system software can be readily applied to different types of printing hardware.

  • Patent number: 6525831
Abstract: A printing system produces prints from a print job written in one of a plurality of page description languages with the print job assuming the form of a print job stream. The printing system includes a page description language guesser having a plurality of page description language analyzing units for sampling the print job stream, each analyzing unit outputting an information signal which provides information regarding the print job stream. The PDL guesser, which receives the information signals, processes the information signals and outputs a filtered signal which indicates the page description language in which the print job is written. The page description language (PDL) analyzing unit verifies that in the data sample all command operator strings, their associated parameters and interspersed data are valid for a particular PDL or Image Format.
