  • Publication number: 20030001929
Abstract: An improved ink jet head wherein an ink reservoir is provided in the ink jet channel. Such a arrangement improves the printhead latency and broadens the range of inks which may be suitably utilized. In one alternative, this ink reservoir is provided between the heater and the face of the printhead and is actually an expansion of the heater pit. In another alternative, this is accomplished by shifting the forward edge of the heater pit as provided in the thick polyimide (or other photopolymer) layer found sandwiched between a heater chip and a ODE channel chip.

  • Publication number: 20030001077
Abstract: In a photosensitive scanning apparatus, in which a plurality of chips are aligned to form a single linear array of photosensors, gaps of unknown width between photosensors on adjacent chips may have an effect on resulting image quality. A set of simple strategies can be used to overcome the problem. In a first strategy, for each chip, interpolation of output values of the photosensors is used to in effect displace the outputs of the photosensors by a predetermined amount toward a gap; within constraints, the predetermined displacement can be used without actual measurement of any gap width. In a second strategy, an interpolated output of a theoretical “phantom photosensor” disposed toward the gap is added to the output stream from each chip.

  • Patent number: 6501559
Abstract: A method and apparatus for prioritizing the use of multifunctional printing system's basic processing resources. The printing system employs a controller with an improved job contention manager (JCM). A plurality of basic resources of the printing system are provided with a queue. One or more job services, at desired times, signals the JCM to carry out a sub-job of a given job. The signal for each of the sub-jobs includes information about the respective sub-job and its priority. Responsive to the signal from the job service the JCM adds a corresponding basic resource sub-job to the queues of each basic resource which the sub-job will require to perform the sub-job. Each respective sub-job is ready for processing, when it is first in line in all the queues of all the basic resources required to perform the sub-job.

  • Patent number: 6501567
Abstract: A method and system for designing a plurality of correlated stochastic screens or conjugate screen portions intended for use in color halftoning of a corresponding plurality of color separations. A merit function is associated with each screen or screen portion. The merit function represents a measure of the desirability of the screen, particularly with regard to maximizing ink dispersion and optimizing spatial frequency response. An additional merit function value is associated with a combination of the screens and screen portions. Additional merit function represents a measure of desirability of the screen combination with regard to ink dispersion and combined spatial frequency response. The merit functions are iteratively applied to possible screens until an optimized merit value is calculated. The screens are selected that correspond to the optimized merit value. The image is generated using the selected screens in a conventional color halftoning process with a plurality of color separations.
