  • Patent number: 6160540
Abstract: A zoomorphic computer for controlling a computer system includes an animal or humanoid shaped shell having an attached transceiver for two way communication with a computer system. A position detecting unit determines position of the zoomorphic shell relative to the computer system, with change of position of the zoomorphic shell relative to the computer system changing state the zoomorphic shell or the computer system. The zoomorphic shell can have movable elements such as arms or tails, attached to the zoomorphic shell, and support a feedback unit that communicates with the computer system, modifying position of a movable element in response to computer system output.

  • Patent number: 6157400
Abstract: An imaging system having a raster output scanner that produces high quality scan lines comprised of evenly spaced pixels. The raster output laser device is modulated in accordance with a variable frequency pixel clock that is derived from a high frequency oscillator using a dual modulus programmable divider that is controlled by a state machine. In turn, that state machine is controlled by information stored in a memory. The variable frequency pixel clock compensates for scan line nonlinearity, polygon facet errors, and/or scan line magnification.

  • Patent number: 6157804
Abstract: A piezoelectric acoustic transducer, especially for a printer photoreceptor toner transfer assist system, having a mechanical resonance varying over a substantial frequency range, is driven by a driver circuit having an automatically variable frequency electrical power output. The driver circuit initially automatically slowly sweeps over a wide frequency range encompassing the resonance range of the transducer until the resonant frequency is detected from the electrical impedance change of the transducer at resonance. The driver circuit then automatically switches to a frequency control with a phase lock loop system responsive to the phase of the transducer voltage and current, to hold and maintain the driver circuit output at the varying resonant frequency of the transducer. A small frequency range rapid dithering of the driver circuit frequency may be additionally provided above and below the resonant frequency of the transducer.

  • Patent number: 6157462
Abstract: A method and apparatus for printing a digital color images wherein the application of both colored inks and black ink to a common location is prevented to minimize ink usage, and to provide a more uniform distribution of black and colored pixels. Input pixel data is received at a first depth in terms of `c` bits per pixel, wherein `c` is an integer, for at least three color separations of a digital color image. Pixel data at the first depth of `c` bits per pixel is derived for a fourth separation of the digital color image based upon the pixel data of the three color separations. Error diffusion is performed on the pixel data of the fourth separation to redefine the pixel data at a second depth of `d` bits per pixel, where `d` is an integer and `d`<`c`.

  • Patent number: 6157019
Abstract: The present invention relates to photosensitive chips for creating electrical signals from an original image, as would be found for example in a digital scanner, copier, facsimile machine, or other document generating or reproducing device. More specifically, the present invention provides a way of shielding the edge photosites with an opaque layer that overlaps the diced region and preserves the integrity of the filter layers while eliminating the need for a guardring to decrease the dead space and consequently reduce the undesirable effects of Moire patterns.

  • Patent number: 6155561
Abstract: In a lateral sheet shifting system, wherein sheets are fed from a sheet input to a sheet output with controlled shifting transversely of the process direction, there is a pivotal arcuate sheet path defining baffle unit providing an arcuate sheet-feeding path between the input and output. This arcuate baffle unit is mounted for pivotal angular movement laterally of the process direction by a controllable automatic variable angle pivoting system to form a variable sheet spiraling path therein. The arcuate baffle unit may be generally "S" or "U" shaped, and may be defined by, or consist solely of, opposing relatively closely spaced similarly arcuate baffles, such as at least two operatively connecting but oppositely facing generally quarter-cylindrical sections which can provide sheet side shifting without introducing any sheet skewing. The sheets in the baffle unit need not be engaged by any sheet feeding rollers therein, and the sheet input and output can be simple conventional fixed rollers on fixed axes.
