Abstract: A printbar cooling device for cooling an array of print dies substantially eliminates thermal gradients along the length of the array of print dies through use of a parallel flow cooling configuration where each point along the array is in thermal contact with coolant at the same temperature. Coolant is directed away from the array of print dies to a common coolant outlet.
Abstract: A method for operating a processor-controlled system produces a table image including graphical display objects in each of the cell regions indirectly representing the data values in an underlying n-dimensional (nD) information data array. Request signal data is received from a input signal source to present the table image in the display area of a display device connected to the processor-controlled system. In response to the request signal data, for each cell in the table image, the source data value and data type of a source data item in the nD data array is obtained, and a cell presentation type is selected using the data type. A graphical display object having at least one display feature representative of the data type of the data value is produced from the cell presentation type, and image definition data defining table image and the graphical display object for each cell is provided to a system display device for display.

Abstract: A printing system with input and control systems is provided. The control system, which links the input system with a print engine, causes image data, representative of an image, and trim marks to be superposed, in a selected manner, on an electronic page. The electronic page, with its attendant trim marks, is stored in a memory for reproduction thereof by the print engine.
Abstract: An electronic image processing apparatus has a controller and a plurality of resources in an arbitrary configuration. Each of the resources includes an associated processor storing data related to operational constraints of the associated resource and a bus interconnects the processors to the controller for directing the operation of the resources. The controller is adapted to operate independent of a particular configuration of the plurality of resources by receiving from each of the processors the data related to the operational constraints of each associated resource and interrogating each of the processors to determine the geometrical relationship of the interconnection of the resources.

Abstract: Acoustic printheads having an optically transparent substrate, at least two optical lenses, which may be part of the substrate, and a first structure, which may also be part of the substrate. The optical lenses focus light which irradiates the substrate into optical focal points at known locations relative to the first structure. The first structure may be part of an acoustic droplet ejector which includes an acoustic lens that is fabricated on the optically transparent substrate. The optical focal points can be used to precisely align the first structure with another structure.
Abstract: A system and method for manually removably locking a paper handling module to a reproduction apparatus with greatly reduced manual force, wherein the reproduction apparatus and the paper handling module have respective sheet feed openings which are operatively aligned for sheet feeding therebetween when the module is so locked to the reproduction apparatus in a locking position, and wherein the paper handling module has a weight which is undesirable for manual lifting into the locking position. The module is supported on an integral module transporting system to be freely movable in any horizontal direction into an initial docking position closely adjacent to the reproduction apparatus.

Abstract: A method of achieving optimum optical contrast for detecting registration marks in a multicolor electrophotographic printing machine. The reflectivity of the image carrying member which is usually an intermediate transfer belt is determined. The reflectivity of each of the toners is then determined. If one of the toners has a contrasting reflectivity, while the remaining toners do not contrast then a uniform field of the contrasting toner is imaged and developed and the registration marks for the other toner colors are then developed on top of the uniform field. A void in the field in the shape of the other toner marks is used as the registration mark for the contrasting toner. If all of the toners have a contrasting reflectivity with the belt, the registration marks are imaged and developed directly on the belt.
Abstract: An electrostatic image-bearing dielectric member comprises a support and a dielectric layer formed on the support. The dielectric layer is formed of at least one of amorphous carbon, diamond-like carbon and diamond. The dielectric layer may contain not larger than 60 atomic percent of at least one of hydrogen and fluorine. An intermediate layer may be provided between the support and the dielectric layer in order to improve the adhesion therebetween.

Abstract: An image encoding device. The image encoding device divides the image into blocks, analyzes each block, truncates the block and determines an order using approximate points, quantizes the image data along the order determined in the truncation step, an encodes the data. Processing images with parameters along a determined order permits high quality encoded images within a limited amount of data.
Abstract: An image forming apparatus includes: medium transporting belt that carried an image recording medium on its surface, and is driven so that the surface is circulatively turned; a plural number of toner image forming drums facing the transporting belt, each including an image bearing surface having an electrostatic latent image formed thereon, a developing unit for developing the electrostatic latent image into a toner image, and an image transferring unit for transferring the toner image on the transporting belt or an image recording medium held on the transporting belt; medium supplying trays and path for successively supplying image recording media to the transporting belt; a medium attracting electrode facing the transporting belt; a counter electrode opposing to the medium attracting electrode with respect to the medium attracting electrode; an electric field formed between the medium attracting and counter electrodes to cause the transporting belt to attract the image recording medium to the transporting
Abstract: The present invention provides an electrostatic image developing carrier which exhibits an enhanced maintenance of image quality, can be prevented from being attached to the image and thus can provide an image free of uneven density and background stain and an electrostatic image developer comprising said carrier. Abstract: A hollow cylinder supporting end flange including a disk shaped member having a circular periphery and a coil spring having a major plane substantially parallel to the major plane of the disk shaped member, an exposed arcuate outer periphery having a diameter larger than the inside diameter of the hollow cylinder, an outer exposed end and an inner end, the inner end comprising a section secured to the end flange and the exposed arcuate outer periphery of the coil spring being adjacent the circular periphery of the disk shaped member for engagement with a hollow cylindrical member upon insertion of the coil spring into the hollow cylindrical member.
Abstract: Techniques for obtaining an ejection rate independent, spatial relationship between an acoustic focal area and the free surface of a liquid. Variations in the spatial relationship are reduced or eliminated by applying substantially the same acoustic energy to the liquid's free surface during periods when droplets are not ejected as when they are, but at power levels insufficient to eject a droplet. During ejection periods in which a droplet is not ejected, the acoustic energy is applied at a lower level, but for a longer time. Because it is more convenient to measure and control, the transducer drive voltage is used to control the acoustic energy applied to the liquid's free surface.

Abstract: A system for controlling use and distribution of digital works. In the present invention, the owner of a digital work attaches usage rights to that work. Usage rights are granted by the "owner" of a digital work to "buyers" of the digital work. The usage rights define how a digital work may be used and further distributed by the buyer. Each right has associated with it certain optional specifications which outline the conditions and fees upon which the right may be exercised. Digital works are stored in a repository. A repository will process each request to access a digital work by examining the corresponding usage rights. Digital work playback devices, coupled to the repository containing the work, are used to play, display or print the work. Access to digital works for the purposes of transporting between repositories (e.g. copying, borrowing or transfer) is carried out using a digital work transport protocol. Access to digital works for the purposes of replay by a digital work playback device (e.g.
