  • Patent number: 9553396
Abstract: An interface seal for an electrical connector assembly that includes a housing and a seal retainer defining a seal recess and configured to couple to the housing, is disclosed. The interface seal includes a main body portion configured to substantially surround the housing to create a sealing interface, and an anti-rotation projection coupled to and extending from the main body portion. The anti-rotation projection includes (i) an engagement portion extending in a first direction and (ii) a connecting portion that couples the engagement portion with the main body portion and that extends in a second direction different from the first direction. The anti-rotation projection cooperates with the seal recess to inhibit movement of the interface seal with respect to the housing and seal retainer.

  • Patent number: 9520669
Abstract: A connector assembly that includes first and second connector housings, which are configured to hold a plurality of male terminals, a pair of lock tabs, which are disposed on opposite sides of the first connector housing, and a male terminal protector that is engaged to the lock tabs to protect ends of the male terminals that are to engage the female terminals when the second connector housing is fully mated to the first connector housing. The male terminal protector is released from the lock tabs when the second connector housing is positioned in a connector pre-set condition so that they do not impede movement of the male terminal protector when the second connector is moved toward the first connector housing to align and mate the female terminals with the male terminals.

  • Patent number: 9368882
Abstract: An electrical device having an electrical component, which has an electric terminal, and a busbar assembly having a busbar and a frame. The busbar is formed of a strip of conductive material and has first and second busbar sides that are opposite from one another. The frame has a busbar seat and a cover member. The busbar seat extends through a first frame side of the frame. The busbar is received into the busbar seat and seated to the frame such that the first busbar side is spaced apart from the first frame side so that the busbar is contained wholly within the frame. The cover member abuts the second busbar side and defines an irradiation aperture that is configured to receive a laser beam from a laser welder therethrough. A laser weld fuses the busbar to the electric terminal.

  • Patent number: 9365170
Abstract: A grommet assembly that has a retainer and a grommet that is coupled to the retainer. The retainer includes first and second body portions that are connected via a hinge that permits the first and second body portions to be spread apart into an open condition to receive a wire harness. The retainer also includes a latch that permits the first and second body portions to be held in a closed position. The grommet is coupled to the retainer and is configured to form a seal about the retainer. The grommet can have seal members that sealingly engage one another when the retainer is latched in the closed position. Additionally or alternatively, the retainer can have a channel that is configured to support a wire harness and the grommet can have a resilient tubular portion that can be stretched over the channel and the wire harness.

  • Patent number: 9293289
Abstract: An assembly in which a housing and cover enclose an electric component and lock the electric component into place is provided. The electric component has two L-shaped terminals with notches formed in them that provide lock surfaces for the housing body. The housing body has locking arms that flex during installation and lock the electric component into place by mating with the lock surfaces. The cover body has bosses which push down upon the electric component during installation and lock pins which lock the flexible locking arms into place. The lock pins occupy the space between the locking arms and the backstops of the housing body thereby preventing the locking arms from moving out of position and disengaging the lock surfaces of the locking arms and terminals.

  • Patent number: 9246255
Abstract: A connector assembly can include a housing, a terminal retainer, and a terminal position assurance member. The terminal retainer can be removably coupled with the housing and define a primary retaining lock for an electrical contact assembly. The terminal retainer can cooperate with the housing to form a compartment that can receive the electrical contact assembly. The compartment can extend along a mating axis of the housing, with a first frontal opening and a rear opening spaced from one another along the mating axis. A portion of the first frontal opening can be elastically deformable such that a size of the first frontal opening is variable. The terminal position assurance member can be removably coupled with the housing to define a secondary retaining lock for the electrical contact assembly. The terminal position assurance member can be positioned to inhibit elastic deformation of the portion of the first frontal opening.

  • Patent number: 9153894
Abstract: The present teachings provide for a connector including a first body and an assurance body. The first body defines a first locking member, a cavity and a slot. The cavity accepts a terminal inserted therein to a first distance. The slot extends into the first body and intersects the cavity. The first locking member is configured to prevent withdrawal of the terminal when the terminal is inserted to the first distance. The assurance body is movable between a preset and a full set position within the slot, and includes a reinforcing member and a second locking member. The full set position, the reinforcing member limits movement of the first locking member to prevent the withdrawal of the terminal, and the second locking member extends into the cavity to prevent withdrawal of the terminal independent of the first locking member.

  • Publication number: 20150229080
Abstract: The present teachings provide for an electrical connector including a first housing, power terminals, and first and second shunts. The terminals and shunts are located within a cavity of defined by the first housing. The first housing is configured to mate with a second housing to transfer power between a power storage device and components of an electric or hybrid electric vehicle. The first shunt is configured to complete an interlock circuit. The second shunt is configured to complete a service disconnect circuit. The interlock circuit prevents the transfer of power between the first and second housings when the circuit is broken and allows it when complete. The service disconnect circuit causes the power storage device to be substantially electrically isolated from the rest of the vehicle when the circuit is broken.
