  • Patent number: 6840833
Abstract: In the manufacture of a gas discharge type display panel, by applying a sealing operation along with an exhausting operation, the sealing glass 14 is broken down by a pressure difference between the inside and outside of the panel, and thus, the clearance gap between the substrates can be controlled as desired. In addition, the gaseous component that is unnecessary for the discharge operation is exhausted by setting the temperature of the amorphous sealing glass to exceed its softening-point and be no more than its working point. In the structure of the gas discharge type display panel, a protruding portion having a radius of curvature between 0.1 mm and 1 mm is formed on the sealing glass to reduce the dispersion in the thickness direction of the sealing glass, or the cross-sectional shape of the sealing glass is made convex both at its inside end part and its outside end part.

  • Patent number: 6814501
Abstract: A light-emitting device includes 16 vertical-cavity surface-emitting laser diodes (VCSELs) disposed like a 4×4 grid, for example, in a sufficiently narrower range than the end surface of an optical fiber. The 16 VCSELs disposed in the light-emitting device emit optical signals in the same direction. Since the VCSELs are disposed with a concentration in the sufficiently narrower range than the end surface of the optical fiber as described above, if the optical signals emitted from the VCSELs are spread, almost all optical signals generated by the light-emitting device are incident on the end surface of the optical fiber and are transmitted through the optical fiber.

  • Patent number: 6811329
Abstract: Systems and techniques are described for monitoring a pre-splice heat treatment of an optical fiber. In one described technique, a lead end of a first fiber is prepared for splicing. The lead of the fiber is then loaded into a heat treatment station. While heating the lead fiber end, an optical time domain reflectometer is used to measure reflected backscatter loss from the lead fiber end. The lead fiber continues to be heated end until the measured reflected backscatter loss from the lead fiber end reaches a predetermined level. At that point, the heat treatment is discontinued.

  • Patent number: 6806419
Abstract: An accessory for immobilizing, an electrical device fitted into a longitudinal opening of a trunking base section and clipped directly to parallel clipping strips flanking the longitudinal opening includes a rigid member which is fitted transversely into the longitudinal opening of the trunking base section alongside an electrical device to stabilize locally the width of the longitudinal opening. The rigid member has on two parallel sides attachment arrangements adapted to cooperate with the clipping strips. The rigid member carries a locking lever one end of which has a bearing surface which bears on one of the clipping strips. The locking lever pivots between two positions, namely a rest position in which the bearing surface is at a distance from the clipping strip and a locking position in which the bearing surface is pressed against the clipping strip, exerting a pressure force thereon to lock the rigid member in position on the trunking base section.
