  • Patent number: 11391898
Abstract: Pluggable optical transceiver modules are described herein that are specifically configured to preclude use of fiber jumpers inside of the module. The pluggable optical transceiver modules include an on-board application-specific integrated circuit (ASIC), optical transceiver, and an optical socket allowing a fiber to connect to the optical transceiver. Pluggable optical transceiver modules implement an opto-mechanical interface between an external fiber cable (attached to the pluggable optical transceiver module) and the optical transceiver in manner that does not require the fiber jumper, while ensuring tight alignment tolerances. In some embodiments, optical transceiver modules are designed to achieve a direct opt-mechanical coupling between the external fiber cable and on-board opto-electrical components (e.g., optical transceiver).

  • Patent number: 11356240
Abstract: A method of time aligning signals transmitted from a plurality of access nodes to a distributor is disclosed. The signals are formed according to a cyclic structure of a predetermined number of segments, including content segments and control segments, each segment having two markers. A controller of the distributor allocates observation time slots for each access node corresponding to control segments. The controller detects, from a portion of a signal received from an access node during a respective observation time slot, a position of a particular marker and a segment index then determines a temporal displacement of the signal accordingly. If the temporal displacement exceeds a predefined value, a distributing mechanism of the distributor halts signal transfer from the access node to all other access nodes and instructs the access node to adjust transmission time according to the temporal displacement.

  • Patent number: 11356191
Abstract: Embodiments of the invention describe apparatuses, optical systems, and methods for utilizing a dynamically reconfigurable optical transmitter. A laser array outputs a plurality of laser signals (which may further be modulated based on electrical signals), each of the plurality of laser signals having a wavelength, wherein the wavelength of each of the plurality of laser signals is tunable based on other electrical signals. An optical router receives the plurality of (modulated) laser signals at input ports and outputs the plurality of received (modulated) laser signals to one or more output ports based on the tuned wavelength of each of the plurality of received laser signals. This reconfigurable transmitter enables dynamic bandwidth allocation for multiple destinations via the tuning of the laser wavelengths.

  • Patent number: 11349566
Abstract: Devices, computer-readable media and methods are disclosed for determining reachability for a wavelength connection in a telecommunication network. For example, a processor deployed in a telecommunication network may calculate a fiber loss on a link in the telecommunication network using optical power measurements and determine that a destination node of a wavelength connection is not reachable via a path that includes the link based upon the fiber loss of the link that is calculated. In one example, the determining is based upon a number of links in the path, an effective fiber loss for each link in the path, a penalty for nodes in the path, and an acceptable loss value. The processor may further perform a remedial action in response to determining that the destination node of the wavelength connection is not reachable via the path.

  • Patent number: 11342991
Abstract: A light source (12) outputs a light (L1). A branching unit (13) branches the light (L1) output from the light source (12) into a first branched light (L2) and a local oscillation light (LO). A modulator (14) modulates the first branched light (L2) to output an optical signal (LS1). An EDFA (16) amplifies the optical signal (LS1) output from the modulator (14). An excitation light source (17) outputs an excitation light (Le) exciting the EDFA (16) to the EDFA (16). An optical attenuator (18) attenuates optical power of the optical signal (LS1) amplified by the EDFA (16). A control unit (11) controls attenuation of the optical signal (LS1) in the optical attenuator (18). The control unit (11) adjusts the attenuation of the optical signal (LS1) and adjusts an output of the excitation light (Le) from the excitation light source (17).
