  • Patent number: 5125428
Abstract: The pressure compensator (2) is provided with gas-pervious but water and lubricating oil retaining diaphragms (10) which are supported on supporting grids (13) of less elastic material and elastomer rings (12). The diaphragms (10) permit the utilization of their flexibility for periodic ejection of dirt coatings automatic with the aid of pressure oscillations resulting during operation which lead to alternating bulgings and dropping of dirt. The installation of the diaphragms (10), while keeping an interspace (14) that remains at least on one side free, is provided in an insert body (3) which, depending on what may be needed, can be designed as a nipple, an annular cassette or directly as a seal element.

  • Patent number: 5125427
Abstract: Temporary plugs are formed in process flowlines by injecting into the flowlines a plugging material having a freezing point only slightly below the ambient temperature. The plugging material is frozen in place, and a servicing operation is conducted on the flowline. The plugging material is then allowed to thaw or is thawed by applied heat. Linear primary alcohols and normal paraffinic hydrocarbons are preferred plugging materials.

  • Patent number: 5123438
Abstract: An apparatus is provided for producing specific concentrations of waterbo pollutants diluted in unfiltered seawater and for periodically delivering the seawater/pollutant dilutions to a plurality of experimental test aquaria at selected flow rates. A seawater feed tank containing the unfiltered seawater drains, under the force of gravity, into a seawater feed trough. The seawater feed trough is constructed to allow the unfiltered seawater to escape therefrom at a plurality of seawater escape locations under the force of gravity. A plurality of seawater cells are aligned beneath the seawater feed trough to receive the unfiltered seawater escaping therefrom. Means are further provided to limit the amount of unfiltered seawater in each of the seawater cells to a preselected amount. In a similar fashion, a pollutant feed tank containing the waterborne pollutants drains under the force of gravity into a pollutant feed trough.

  • Patent number: 5116018
Abstract: A lockout module is adapted to be mounted between an actuator-to-valve mounting kit and a valve actuator, and is operable to lock the valve in either an opened position or a closed position. In a preferred embodiment, the lockout module comprises a housing, a spindle, a lockout pin, and a lockout tab. The lockout pin is inserted in the housing for selective engagement and blocking of the spindle or for releasing the spindle. A padlock is locked through a lockout wheel on the lockout pin and the lockout tab, the lockout tab engaging a groove within an appendage of the housing to prevent pin and valve movement. In an alternative embodiment, the lockout module comprises a housing, a spindle, a pair of lockout pins, and a pair of pull pins. The lockout pins are inserted in the housing for selective engagement and blocking of the spindle or for releasing the spindle.

  • Patent number: 5111840
Abstract: A modular valve has a valve housing which defines a manifold interface having a normally open port, a normally closed port and a common port. A manifold block is mounted to the valve housing with its valve interface sealed against the manifold interface. The valve interface of the manifold block has first, second and third valve ports which lead to respective first, second and third mounting ports at a mounting interface of the manifold block. The first, second and third valve ports and the normally open normally closed and common ports are arranged to communicate with one another in either of two angularly spaced positions of the valve housing relative to the manifold block. In one position, the first valve port comunicates with the normally open port, the second valve port communicates with the normally closed port, and the third valve port communicates with the common port.

  • Patent number: 5103855
Abstract: An automatic condensate draining device includes a housing which confines a condensate collecting chamber and having a base provided with a condensate discharge opening, and a condensate inlet opening in communication with the condensate collecting chamber. A valve seat unit has an axial through opening to intercommunicate the condensate collecting chamber and the condensate discharge opening. A poppet valve has a piston section in sliding contact with the inner surface of a lower portion of a tubular cover member, and a valve head to accordingly block the axial through opening of the valve seat unit. The piston section and the tubular cover member confine a volume variable chamber. Condensate and high pressure air enter the condensate collecting chamber via the condensate inlet opening and force the poppet valve upward so as to enable the valve head to block the condensate discharge opening.

  • Patent number: 5102093
Abstract: A fast valve is disclosed that can close on the order of 7 milliseconds. It is closed by the force of a compressed air spring with the moving parts of the valve designed to be of very light weight and the valve gate being of wedge shaped with O-ring sealed faces to provide sealing contact without metal to metal contact. The combination of the O-ring seal and an air cushion create a soft final movement of the valve closure to prevent the fast air acting valve from having a harsh closing.
