Abstract: A variation compensating unit that compensates an amplitude variation and phase variation efficiently and that improves system reliability and communication quality. A first combining section generates a first combined signal by combining signal on different transmission paths in which a variation has not occurred. A second combining section generates a second combined signal by combining signal on the different transmission paths in which a variation has occurred. A compensation value calculating section calculates compensation values for compensating variation according to the transmission paths on the basis of the first combined signal, the second combined signal, and signal on each transmission path in which a variation has not occurred or in which a variation has occurred. A compensating section compensates variation dynamically on the basis of the compensation values.
Abstract: A wireless communication device performance, such as standby time, is improved by adaptively allocating surplus system resources to change quick paging channel parameters at the system, such a system being for example, a base station. Adaptively adjusting the quick paging channel parameters allows available base station resources to be allocated to the quick paging channel, thereby enabling the wireless communication device to demodulate the quick paging channel more reliably. Parameters such as the number of quick paging channels, the data rate used by the paging channel, and the quick paging channel transmit power level are weighed and adjusted.

Abstract: A method of providing call charge information in a mobile telecommunications system. The method comprises maintaining in a home mobile telecommunications network a set of call charging algorithms which correspond to respective foreign mobile telecommunications networks. The algorithms are transferred periodically to respective foreign networks, wherein the transferred algorithms may be used by the receiving foreign networks to calculate call charge information for subscribers of the home network when they are roaming in the foreign networks.
Abstract: A system for managing return channel bandwidth in a two-way satellite communication network is disclosed. A plurality of transceivers are configured to transmit backlog information over a return channel via a satellite. The backlog information specifies an amount of queued traffic for the respective transceivers. A hub is configured to receive the backlog information and to allocate a predetermined amount of return channel bandwidth to each of the plurality of transceivers. The hub determines whether additional return channel bandwidth is available to accommodate a remaining backlog such that a bandwidth allocation amount is set to a level associated with one of the plurality of transceivers having the largest backlog. The hub selectively identifies a transceiver among the plurality of transceivers having a next largest backlog based upon the determined available return channel bandwidth.

Abstract: A radio receiver having a circuit arrangement for checking the quality of reception at an alternative frequency to a received transmit frequency. The radio receiver has two tuners for converting the received signals to two different intermediate frequencies and a switch, which is preferably switched by a microprocessor, for optionally forwarding signals from signal processing branches that are each connected to one of the tuners. This reduces the cost of implementing the second receiver, at the same time reducing the barely noticeable impairment of the set program when checking the quality of reception at the alternate frequency. The latter is achieved by positioning the switch upstream from an analog-digital converter, operating at a sampling frequency, of an intermediate frequency stage. The different intermediate frequencies are selected so that they both meet the following condition:
f0=(n+R)fa
where n is a natural number, and 0≦R≦1 applies.
Abstract: A proxy switch, communication methods, and communication logic for use in a mobile network are described. A proxy switch is deployed between a base station subsystem and a mobile station center. It receives signaling messages and either retransmits them, blocks them, converts them, or siphons them to an alternative network. Besides providing an ability to offload offload mobile traffic it provides a platform for new communication services. A proxy switch includes signaling message handling logic for receiving signaling messages from the MSC and BS in accordance with said mobile signaling protocol. Message transmission logic issues messages to the MSC and BS. A FSN and a BSN are provided for communication with the MSC, and another FSN/BSN pair are provided for communication with the BS.

Abstract: The present invention is directed to a method and to a system for regulating the transmission power of a mobile station (2) of a mobile radiotelephone system in which information are transmitted in various carrier frequencies with a frequency hopping method. The fixed station (1) comprises a receiver (4) for receiving information that are transmitted from a mobile station (2). The fixed station (1) also comprises a detector (11) for detecting the transmission quality of the transmitted information. When the transmission quality is good and the information were transmitted with a high transmission power, a first message for lowering the transmission power is sent to the mobile station and, when the transmission quality is poor and the information were transmitted with a low transmission power, a second message for raising the transmission power is sent to the mobile station. The present invention serves the purpose of lowering the power consumption in a mobile station of a mobile radiotelephone system.
Abstract: A subscriber terminal initiates an authentication procedure with a supporting wireless communications system in response to either a timer expiration based trigger, a state change based trigger, or a combination timer/state based trigger. With respect to the timer expiration based trigger, a countdown timer is set by either the subscriber terminal or the supporting system and thereafter monitored for expiration to trigger authentication. For the state change based trigger, the subscriber terminal monitors for any transition from an operating state wherein use of an air interface connection with the supporting system has been suspended to trigger authentication. Furthermore, for the combination timer/state based trigger, the subscriber terminal sets a countdown timer and monitors for an operating state transition that occurs subsequent to timer expiration to trigger authentication.
Abstract: The communication terminal apparatus measures reception quality and reports the measurement result to the base station apparatus, and the base station apparatus switches the transmission rate based on the reported result of the reception quality. In this way, the transmission rate is switched starting at the point in time at which the reception quality of the communication terminal apparatus deteriorates. Furthermore, the transmission rate is switched so that the amount of interference with others is within the allowable range according to the channel condition between the communication terminal apparatus and base station apparatus.

Abstract: A radio communication system (100) has talkgroups or working groups that intercommunicate with each other on broadcast calls. Multiple working groups are associated with an announcement group. A subscriber unit (112a-f) may monitor talkgroup communications or announcement group communications. When communications to a talkgroup are initiated, a grant message (300) is sent to subscriber units affiliated with the talkgroup. A new grant message (350) is generated for subscriber units affiliated with the announcement group. The new grant message relieves subscriber units from storing an association between talkgroups and announcement groups, thereby allowing the association of announcement groups and talkgroups to be assigned dynamically.
