Abstract: Systems and methods for generating a content item sequence for display via an abbreviated on-screen guide are disclosed herein. Content selection commands are entered via a user interface of a computing device. Transition data, which describes content item playback transitions caused by the content selection commands, is stored in a buffer. Based on the transition data, a content family, which comprises a plurality of content items, is generated. A determination is made as to whether a content item currently being played back is included in the content family. In response to determining that the currently played-back content item is included in the content family, an on-screen guide, which comprises an abbreviated content item listing of the plurality of content items of the content family, is generated for display.

Abstract: An endoscope apparatus includes an image pickup device, an illumination element, a power source unit, a processor, an image processing unit, and a monitor as a display unit. The illumination element is capable of executing illumination light reduction processing. The image pickup device is capable of executing frame rate reduction processing and pixel count reduction processing. When the processor selects a low power consumption operation mode, at least one of the illumination light reduction processing, the frame rate reduction processing and the pixel count reduction processing is executed, and the image processing unit performs image restoration processing relevant to the illumination light reduction processing, the frame rate reduction processing and the pixel count reduction processing.

Abstract: Methods and systems for selecting and delivering content are provided. More particularly, content can be delivered to an output device from a user device through a device adaptor, such as an over-the-top (OTT) device. The OTT device or devices available to the user device are determined by a communication server. In particular, the OTT device or devices available to the user device are limited to those OTT devices associated with an output device in the user's room, or that the user is otherwise authorized to access.

Abstract: An electronic device includes one or more sensors capturing media content from an environment of the electronic device. One or more processors, operable with the one or more sensors, determine whether the media content is private media content. The electronic device includes a private data store and a public data store. When the one or more processors determine the media content is the private media content, the one or more processors store the private media content in the private data store and preclude transmission of the private media content from the private data store to another electronic device. When the one or more processors determine the media content is other than the private media content, the one or more processors store the media content in the public data store and permit transmission of the media content to the another electronic device.

Abstract: Apparatus, system and method for promoting media apps to an end user of a smart device. The smart device gathers information of apps that have been installed into the smart device and provides this information to a remote server. The remote server compares the information sent by the smart device to an identification of promoted apps received from a remote source to identify apps that are not installed in the smart device that are included in the identification of promoted apps. The remote server then notifies the smart device of which apps in the identification of promoted apps are not installed into the smart device, so that a user of the smart device may choose to have the missing app installed.

Abstract: An apparatus comprises a processor (301) providing a plurality of reference video streams for a plurality of reference viewpoints for a scene. A receiver (305) receives a viewpoint request from a remote client where the viewpoint request is indicative of a requested viewpoint. A generator (303) generates an output video stream comprising a first video stream with frames from a first reference video stream and a second video stream with frames from a second reference video stream. The frames of the second video stream are differentially encoded relative to the frames of the first video stream. A controller (307) selects the reference video stream for the first and second video streams in response to the viewpoint request and may be arranged to swap the reference video streams between being non-differentially encoded and being differentially encoded when the viewpoint request meets a criterion.

Abstract: Methods and apparatuses for extracting and merging bitstreams. An apparatus includes a communication interface and a processor. The communication interface receives a plurality of bitstreams for a video and a processor. The processor identifies information about independently coded regions in each of the plurality of bitstreams, receives a region of interest in the video, selects, based on the identified information, one or more independently coded regions in each of the plurality of bitstreams that corresponds to the region of interest, and extracts the selected independently coded regions to generate one or more extracted bitstreams.

Abstract: Scenes in video images are identified based on image content of the video images. Regional cross sections of the video images are determined based on the scenes in the video images. Image portions of the video images in the regional cross sections are encoded into multiple video sub-streams at multiple different spatiotemporal resolutions. An overall video stream that includes the multiple video sub-streams is transmitted to a streaming client device.

Abstract: A live audio bite system may capture audio bites of a live event based on input from a spectator's device. The system may include an audience device, a server, and a recording device. The audience device may provide input of when an audio capture is desired. The recording device may record audio directly from an audio source on a circular buffer. The server may facilitate communication between audience devices and recording devices and store requested audio clips.

Abstract: The present disclosure provides systems and methods for interrupting streaming content provided via a manifest inviolate protocol. An intelligent streaming server or edge cache may substitute different content than that which is requested, without the client's knowledge. In some implementations, the client may request a first segment of a file or stream, and the streaming server may instead deliver a segment of an entirely different file or stream. The replacement segment may have the same length as the requested segment, and may be renamed such that the client believes that the requested segment has been properly served. Accordingly, without changing the manifest or departing from the requirements of the manifest-inviolate protocol and without changing any functionality of the client, a system may provide content switching on a per-segment basis, rather than a per-manifest basis.

The client device may package the stream into a first packaged stream having a first block size and a second packaged stream having a second block size less than the first block size. In some embodiments, a client device may determine an actual minimum number of blocks to buffer prior to initiating content playback based on a received predicted network and/or transcoder quality of service forecast. The client device may adjust its preset minimum number of blocks to the actual minimum number of blocks.
