Abstract: An oral pharmaceutical composition which comprises a polyglycerol ester of an unsaturated fatty acid and a drug which is very slightly soluble in water.
Abstract: The subject invention concerns novel dye compositions and a process for dyeing keratinous fibers, for example, hair, to give a pleasing and stable colored product. The dye composition is a novel combination of three elements to give a dye that, unexpectedly, has highly desirable dyeing properties. This unique combination comprises (1) a suitable organic compound to assist dye dispersion, (2) dye precursors including dopamine, D-dopa, L-dopa, D,L-dopa, or analogs thereof, and (3) iodate or periodate. Desired color variations can be obtained by the use of appropriate color modifiers.
Abstract: Hair care compositions are disclosed containing a combination of carboxyfunctional polydimethylsiloxane and a cationic, organic polymer. The compositions can be used as hair fixatives and as such may be formulated into aerosol, pump spray, lotion, cream or mousse type hair care products. The compositions are especially effective in providing flexible, long-lasting hold to hair styles.
Abstract: A film-forming cosmetic composition useful as a facial pack, nail enamel, eye liner etc., which comprises a copolymer of vinyl alcohol and alkyl vinyl ether, being referred to simply as PVA/AVE, consisting of 98 to 80 mole % of vinyl alcohol monomer units and 2 to 20 mole % of linear or branched alkyl vinyl monomer units having from 1 to 6 carbon atoms. The molar ratio of the vinyl alcohol monomer units to the alkyl vinyl ether monomer units is in the range of from 95/5 to 85/15. The PVA/AVE according to the invention has no acetic groups with ester bonds in a molecule. Instead, there are alkyl or alkenyl groups having ether bonds which serve for steric hindrance for preventing gelation of an aqueous solution of such copolymer. From this reason, the PVA/AVE does not undergo any hydrolysis as time passes and is thus excellent in storage stability.
Abstract: Formulations of a cationic dye component (e.g., Azure A-Azure B-Azure C mixtures), an anionic dye component (e.g., Eosin Y) and an alcohol solvent (e.g., methanol or methanol-glycerol mixtures) are stabilized by an amino acid or its acid addition salt (e.g. lysine hydrochloride or glycine or a mixture of these).

Abstract: A method for preparing biological specimens for the scanning electron microscope utilizes a select group of fluorocarbon solvents. Replacement of drying solvents with a fluorocarbon solvent, followed by direct sublimation, provides comparable results to critical point drying.
Abstract: Tinnitus symptoms are treated with aminooxyacetic acid (AOAA) administered orally at dosages of 200-300 mg/day. Clinically significant reductions in tinnitus symptoms were observed.
Abstract: The present invention relates to a stabilized plant protecting agent suspension which can be characterized by containing 10 to 60% by weight of one or more active ingredients, 30 to 5% by weight of oily layer, 0 to 10% by weight of emulsifier, 10 to 20% by weight of conventionally used excipient and water needed to 100% by weight while by increasing solid concentration oil concentration decreases. The invention also provides a process for the preparation of a stabilized plant protecting agent suspension by adding oil and optionally an emulsifier and/or water containing layer to a suspension of a suitable particle size of the active ingredient and water soluble excipients, such as surfactants, optionally emulsifiers, dispersing agents, viscosity modifying agents, protective colloids and mixing together the suspension layer and the layer containing the oil with a stirrer of great shearing force and optionally adding to the obtained stabilized suspension further excipients, e.g.

Abstract: There is disclosed a substituted nitroimidazole compound, 1-methyl-2-methylsulfonyl-4-nitroimidazole which is an antiprotozoal and bactericidal compound with the unique and surprising property of being totally non-mutagenic and thus of a much higher degree of safety than is found with other nitroimidazoles. Compositions and methods for the antiprotozoal and bactericidal uses of such compounds are also disclosed.
