  • Patent number: 10272234
Abstract: A barrel adapter for a syringe having a barrel and plunger. The adapter comprises a barrel tip and a needle retraction mechanism having a needle subassembly with a needle and a lumen, actuator subassembly, and biasing member. The needle subassembly moves from an injection to a retracted position within the barrel tip. The actuator subassembly includes a retainer connected to the barrel tip, a stylet held in a stylet disc, and a prong passing into the retainer. The stylet slides within the needle lumen and is spaced from the needle tip in the injection position. The biasing member biases the NOM from the retainer. A locking arrangement compresses the biasing member when locked and releases the biasing member when actuated by depression of the plunger, which moves the prong against the retainer. The biasing member moves the needle and stylet from the injection position to the retracted position when released.

  • Patent number: 10201693
Abstract: A closed male luer includes a first connector having an upper end portion defining an axial recess, an inner circumferential slide track and several first ratchet teeth; and a second connector having lower end portion received in the axial recess of the first connector, having several second ratchet teeth selectively meshed with the first ratchet teeth such that rotation of the first connector in a first direction drives the second connector to rotate simultaneously in the first direction, wherein, after an upper end portion of the second connector is connected with a second member, rotation of the first connector in the first direction or rotation of the second connector in a second direction opposite to the first direction can break up the second ratchet teeth into pieces by the first ratchet teeth, hence permitting the second connector to rotate freely in 360° relative to the first connector.

  • Patent number: 10166342
Abstract: A recoil reducing needle shield for covering a drug container with a needle includes an outer shell, including an upper portion, a lower portion, and at least one flexible interface positioned therebetween, defining a fulcrum. Radially inward flexing of the upper portion causes radially outward flexing of the lower portion about the flexible interface. An inner cover includes an open proximal end, a closed distal end, and a needle cavity defined therein for receiving a portion of the drug container including the needle. At least a portion of the inner cover is disposed within the outer shell. The open proximal end of the inner cover is coupled to the lower portion of the outer shell, such that radially outward flexing of the lower portion stretches the open proximal end of the inner cover, thereby reducing an initial pull-off force required to remove the needle shield from the drug container.

  • Patent number: 10118021
Abstract: Actuators for steerable medical devices are disclosed that not only deflect or steer a portion of a medical device (e.g., a distal portion of a catheter shaft), but also include mechanisms for actively returning the deflected portion of the medical device to an initial configuration (e.g., straight or substantially straight). These active return-to-straight mechanisms may return a catheter shaft from a deflected configuration to a substantially straight configuration throughout a medical procedure, may employ one or more tension members extending along the catheter shaft, and may comprise a gross return actuator and a fine return actuator. For example, the gross return actuator may be configured to partially reverse the deflection of the distal portion of the catheter; and the fine return actuator may be configured to continue reversing the deflection. The gross return actuator may automatically trigger or actuate (mechanically or electromechanically) the fine return actuator.
