    Abstract: An apparatus for firing and combusting syngas is described. The apparatus comprises a vessel having a first chamber with an inlet for receiving syngas from a gasifier, an ignition chamber provided with an auxiliary burner to ignite the diluted syngas; a combustion chamber provided with an inlet for introducing a combustion agent for combusting the ignited syngas and a retention chamber for retaining the resulting combustion products for a predetermined residence period, the retention chamber being provided with an outlet for withdrawing said combustion products. The first chamber is configured to receive a diluent fluid to dilute the syngas to a predetermined composition below a lower explosive limit (LEL). Preferably the diluent fluid is an oxygen-containing gas.

    Abstract: A gas burner safety system comprises dual sensor arrays, the first array positioned proximal to the gas burner and the second array positioned proximal to a control used to turn on and off and regulate the flame of the gas burner. The first array senses the flame components such that a flame signature is obtained when no object is placed on or above the flame and a flame image is obtained when an object is proximal to the flame. By comparing the flame signature and the flame image, a central control unit operatively connected to the sensor arrays can determine the presence or absence of an object proximal to the flame. The second sensor array is positioned to detect a human hand proximal to the control. In operation, if the flame image matches the flame signature and a human hand is not detected proximal to the control, the central control unit turns off the gas burner by causing the closure of a valve in the gas supply line to the gas burner.

The pellet barbecue is configured with an exhaust gas recirculation system, and an angled bottom fire pot. The electric gas recirculation fan pulls gases from a gas recirculation channel, and blows it onto the angled bottom fire pot. The gas recirculation channel is equipped with a movable mixer flap to control how much of the gas pulled by the gas recirculation fan is exhaust gas or outside air. The pellet barbecue controller monitors the conditions in the cooking chamber, and controls the gas recirculation fan speed and positioning of the mixer flap to maintain a desired temperature, while optimizing the concentration of wood taste compounds from the pellets in the cooking chamber.
