  • Patent number: 4325702
Abstract: A pulley with a variable working diameter, including two coaxial disks which are rotatable relative to one another, of which the one has a radial and the other at least one spiral-shaped guide groove. A plurality of support members with a segmentlike form are positioned between the disks and can be clamped with their front sides between the disks in different radial positions so that their radially outer peripheral areas define a polygonal path which is similar to a circle. The support members having projections engaged in the guide grooves of both disks so that relative rotation of the disks moves the support members radially for changing the respective circle diameter. Each support member--viewed in the direction of the axis of rotation of the disks--has the shape of an asymmetrical segment, preferably a circular-ring segment, with a longer and a shorter diagonal.

  • Patent number: 4311056
Abstract: The present television fine tuning is so constructed that an initial rotation establishes the fine tuning state and that a continued rotation of the fine tuning shaft performs the fine tuning. For this purpose the present tuner comprises a fine tuning driving member, a rotation transmitting idler member, a plate spring for supporting the idler member and a fine tuning driven member. The driving member includes a fine tuning shaft, a slide gear and a slip clutch mounted in front of a chassis concentrically around a channel selector shaft supported in the chassis. The spring member has freely slidable end portions disposed between the chassis and the slide gear for biasing the slide gear in the forward direction. The idler member is movably arranged on the spring member for transmitting the fine tuning movement. The slide gear has a gear back of a flange and a driven cam surface in the front of the flange and is operatively mounted around the slip clutch.

  • Patent number: 4282769
Abstract: A lock assembly for a transmission gear shift lever that uses a detent latch-type lock pivotably mounted to a support structure adjacent to the transmission gear shift lever. Upon rotation of the latch, a locking arm is mated with the gear shift lever thereby securing it in the neutral position. The lock functions primarily as a safety device to hold the gear shift lever of the vehicle's transmission in a neutral position thereby preventing damage or bodily injury that could occur if the shift lever is accidentally or unintentionally jarred thereby placing the transmission into gear.

  • Patent number: 4205562
Abstract: An improvement in a linkage assembly which comprises a bellcrank pivotally mounted on a stationary shaft. The improvement comprises first screw threads on the stationary shaft and second screw threads on the bellcrank mating with the first screw threads to form the pivotal mounting of the bellcrank to the stationary shaft while substantially preventing axial motion of the bellcrank relative to the stationary shaft in the absence of relative flotation therebetween. Any play or looseness in the motion of the bellcrank is thereby substantially eliminated.

  • Patent number: 4125182
Abstract: A controller for stopping a punch press when a stock material becomes jammed, includes: translating means for converting the motion of the stock material exiting from the punch press to rotational motion of rotating means which is operatively associated with said translating means, and a movable element, operatively associated with said rotating means. The rotational motion of rotating means produces centrifugal force which keeps the movable element in an operating position. As the stock material buckles or becomes jammed in the press, the motion of the exiting stock material ceases, causing a decrease in and/or subsequently elimination of the angular velocity of the rotating means and therefore a decrease in the magnitude of the centrifugal force. When the centrifugal force diminishes by a predetermined amount or is entirely eliminated, the movable element moves from the operating position to stopping position.

  • Patent number: 4116318
Abstract: A viscous fan drive having a clutch member with a plurality of restricted fluid flow paths of a given cross sectional area communicating at one end with an element to pump fluid from the restricted flow path to a reservoir and at the other end with radially extending fluid flow paths having a greater cross sectional area than the restricted flow paths and transversing the shear area of the clutch. The restricted flow paths reduce the fluid flow outwardly of the shear area of the clutch member to reduce high speed pumpout and thus increase the speed of the fan when the drive is engaged. The flow paths have a constant cross sectional area, are circumferentially spaced about the clutch member, and transverse the lands and grooves area. The restricted flow paths have a stepped configuration radially outwardly of the flow paths to reduce fluid flow. Each restricted fluid flow path communicates with an axially extending opening transversing the clutch member radially outwardly of the stepped configuration.

  • Patent number: 4108019
Abstract: A solar tracking device constructed in accordance with the present invention includes an azimuthal drive mechanism which utilizes the variable angular velocity of the driven member of a universal joint as the source of power for driving a carriage about a fixed axis at a variable angular velocity corresponding to the variable angular velocity of the sun about the fixed axis. The driving element of the universal joint is mounted on a driving shaft which extends parallel to the axis of rotation of the earth. The altitude control mechanism includes a driving element mounted on the driving shaft which rotates about an axis parallel to the axis of rotation of the earth. The driving element rotates in an equitorial plane whereby its angle of inclination varies in accordance with the variation in altitude of the sun as it rotates in azimuth.

  • Patent number: 4106311
Abstract: A variable length steering column assembly provides a telescoping polygonal tube and shaft. A spring clip is engageable with the tube and the shaft in order to eliminate any torsional lash therebetween and to provide for axial movement between the shaft and tube when the axial forces therebetween exceed a predetermined value. The spring clip is releasably connected to the tube and shaft through openings on the tube. One end of the spring clip engages the side wall of a tube opening and the other end extends through another tube opening to engage the shaft. The spring clip extends over the outer circumference of the tube and is releasably connected to the tube and shaft so that the spring clip is easily disconnected from its engaged position with the tube and shaft remaining in telescoping relation.

  • Patent number: 4086991
Abstract: A thermally actuated disconnect coupling includes a coupling shaft normally connected between a drive member and a driven member to transmit torque from the drive member to the driven member. Within the driven member, a fusible element such as a eutectic pellet supports the coupling shaft against axial movement during normal in-service use of the coupling. Providing the connection between the coupling shaft and the drive member are axially straight splines formed both on the coupling shaft and the drive member. At the other end of the coupling shaft, helical splines formed on the coupling shaft and the driven member provide means whereby torque is transmitted through the coupling shaft to driven member. The axial length of the helical splines is greater than the axial length of the straight splines.
