  • Patent number: 5345682
Abstract: A tube cutter mechanism supports an arm from which a tube supporting anvil extends, the anvil being aligned with the tube cutter mechanism for cutting the supoorted tube. During cutting, an axial force is imposed on the tube and anvil. The arm is formed such that it bends in response to the force, storing energy such that rotation of the tube occurs for more than one revolution of the tube without advancing the cutter wheel. The device is formed of molded glass fiber reinforce nylon, preferably ZYTEL. In a second embodiment, the arm does not bend and the anvil is constructed so as to bend relative to the arm in response to the axial cutting force permitting rotation of the tube during cutting beyond a single revolution without advancing the cutter wheel. The anvil advantageously does not have a cutter wheel for burnishing the tube to remove oxides during cutting.

  • Patent number: 5344262
Abstract: A slotting apparatus has a slotting tool for producing a slot of a substantially arcuate cross section axially in an inner circumferential surface of a tubular workpiece held in position. When the slotting tool moves in one direction axially in the tubular workpiece, it follows an arcuate path by moving progressively toward and away from the inner circumferential surface of the tubular workpiece. The slotting tool cuts off the inner circumferential surface of the tubular workpiece, forming an arcuate slot therein. When the slotting tool moves back, it is spaced from the slotted surface region of the workpiece, and travels along a straight path back to its starting position. The slotting tool is supported on a tool support angularly movably supported by first and second link arms in a casing.

  • Patent number: 5342017
Abstract: A damped, cantilevered support arm for a machine tool position monitoring device rigidly attached to the machine tool by a pair of spaced bolts for relative movement with a machine part along a longitudinal axis. The line of centers through the bolts is oriented along the longitudinal axis and the arm is mounted with shims located between its base and the machine tool part to allow limited effective freedom of movement of the support arm around the line of centers in a direction normal to the longitudinal axis. A squeeze-film damping chamber is provided between the spaced shims for reducing the response of the support arm in the normal direction during relative movement along the longitudinal axis. A boundary O-ring seal together with the thickness of the spacers, defines the damping chamber.

  • Patent number: 5337640
Abstract: A cutter blade assembly for cutting a product, such as a carrot, into a plurality of finished end products, such as carrot sticks, comprises a blade holder and a first and second blade group disposed within the blade holder. The blade holder has a longitudinal passage formed therein. The first blade group comprises a plurality of first blades radially disposed about the longitudinal passage for cutting a first group of finished end products from the product as the product is advanced through the longitudinal passage. The second blade group comprises a plurality of second blades radially disposed about the longitudinal passage and angularly displaced with respect to the first blades. The second blades cut a second group of finished end products from the product as the product is further advanced through the longitudinal passage. Since both the first and second blades produce finished end products, the utilization of the product is maximized, and the amount of waste generated from the product is minimized.

  • Patent number: 5326063
Abstract: A swing-away joystick mounting assembly (20) for mounting a joystick (12) to a wheelchair frame member (11). The joystick mounting assembly (20) produces pantographic movement of the joystick device (12) between a retracted position and an extended position to adjust the placement of the joystick (12). Ingress and egress to and from the wheelchair are eased while, further, permitting the wheelchair to be moved closer to a table or desktop (14). A pair of arms (24, 24') are pivotally mounted at first ends (25, 25') to a first mounting mechanism (21) at spaced apart locations and pivotally mounted at second ends (26, 26') to a second mounting mechanism (22) at spaced apart locations. • Patent number: 5318083
Abstract: An apparatus for severing thin boards from squared timber includes a guide urface upon which a squared timber is conveyed and pressed against a cutting edge of a blade, as well as a counter pressing edge. The adjustment of the distance between the guide surface and a plane parallel thereto which extends through the blade cutting edge (i.e., the thickness of the thin board to be cut) is effected by relative adjustment of the blade cutting edge to the guide surface in an inclined plane which forms an acute adjustment angle .alpha. with a line normal to the guide surface. Because of the relative adjustment of the blade cutting edge to the guide surface along the angle .alpha., when a different board thickness is desired, the distance between the blade cutting edge and the counter pressing edge in the cutting direction is automatically adapted. In a preferred embodiment of the apparatus, the width of an exit guide channel for the severed thin boards can also be simultaneously set to the desired board thickness.

  • Patent number: 5311802
Abstract: A cut-off machine for cutting off predetermined lengths from a moving length of roll form material such as tubing adapted to be positioned downstream from a source comprising a plurality of cut-off assemblies which are reciprocated longitudinally of the moving length of material and operated during the movement to sever plural predetermined lengths. A servo motor crank drive assembly is provided which includes a crank having a roller which is yieldingly engaged with a cam track that has a flat tangential portion such that the roller traverses the flat portion. During this movement across the flat portion, the cut-off assemblies are reciprocated driven at a speed corresponding to the speed of movement of the tube at the time the lengths of tubing are being cut off.

  • Patent number: 5310122
Abstract: A glass grinder for breaking glass from particle or fragment configuration to a grit of a predetermined size. The grinder employs a grinding chamber having an upper and lower portion wherein glass fragments are broken into relatively large particulate size in the upper chamber and passes into the lower chamber where glass is further impacted by blades and driven into a peripheral dam of glass particles. As the glass impacts the dam, it is further broken down to the desired grit size. Overflow from the grit dam exits the chamber under a reduced pressure to control dust production.

  • Patent number: 5307718
Abstract: An apparatus and process are disclosed for removal of a stripe of soft reflective material of uniform width from the surface of a mirror by using a blade having a large included angle to inhibit curling of the blade during the cutting operation which could result in damage to the glass substrate of the mirror. The cutting blade is maintained at a low blade angle with respect to the mirror surface to produce minimal chipping along the cut edge and to minimize the force exerted on the coating normal to the glass surface which could deform the flat mirror. The mirror is mounted in a cutting mechanism containing a movable carriage on which the blade is mounted to provide very accurate straightness of the travel of the blade along the mirror.
