  • Patent number: 7146887
Abstract: An automatically adjustable locking pliers includes an upper jaw fixed to a handle and lower jaws that pivot about the handle. The lower jaws are connected to a lower tightening handle. A lever connects the tightening handle and upper body. This is the standard structure of locking pliers well known in the industry. The improvement includes a self-adjusting sizing and locking mechanism A thumb jaw sizing lever is located near the jaws and may be moved to open the jaws so that they can be sized around a workpiece. When the thumb jaw lever is released, the jaws automatically size and clamp lightly around the workpiece. The sizing lever and locking mechanism operate together to automatically size and lock the pliers. An adjusting screw in the lower handle near a pivot point sets the clamping force. Turning the screw adjusts the tension of the pliers for gripping the workpiece.

  • Patent number: 7144304
Abstract: A method and apparatus for planarizing a microelectronic substrate. In one embodiment, the apparatus can include an elongated, non-continuous polishing pad oriented at an angle relative to the horizontal to allow planarizing liquids and materials removed from the microelectronic substrate to flow off the polishing pad under the force of gravity. Two such polishing pads can be positioned opposite each other in a vertical orientation and can share either a common platen or a common substrate carrier. The polishing pads can be pre-attached to both a supply roll and a take-up roll to form a cartridge which can be easily removed from the apparatus and replaced with another cartridge.

  • Patent number: 7140273
Abstract: Wire processing apparatus (10). The apparatus (10) includes an electronic memory for storing values commensurate with the lengths from a terminal end of the wire (21) to the positions of cuts to be made through the plurality of coating layers (X,Y,Z), and a mechanical store for controlling the depths of each cut. Threaded shafts (84, 84, 84) are mounted upon a turret which is movable both rotationally and axially with respect to the wire being processed. The electronic memory is preferably adapted to receive inputs representing parameters of sequential steps in each of two processing operations, and to perform such operations alternately, upon different wire ends, upon successive actuation's of the apparatus (10). A further feature of the apparatus is an arrangement permitting the force exerted on the wire (21) by a pair of gripping members (32, 32) to remain substantially constant over a range of different wire diameters.

  • Patent number: 7131355
Abstract: A lightweight, adjustable wrench comprising of a moveable jaw with a reach that is shortened or lengthened with a strap or a cable. The loose end of the strap or cable is secured to the wrench's shank by a cam lock, or similar locking device. Since the strap or cable is the means for the wrench's jaws adjustment, a quicker and easier fit to the pipe or object to be gripped can be obtained. The wrench is more convenient to adjust, since the means for adjustment are located near the handle of the wrench as opposed to the shank end of present designs. The strap or cable adjustment also allows the wrench's shank and handle to be designed hollow and a larger diameter to reduce weight. The wrench can be made in any proportion for any sized application.

  • Patent number: 7131353
Abstract: A ratcheting tool includes a body and a gear disposed in the body. The gear defines a plurality of teeth on a circumference of the gear so that the gear teeth define a first arc having a first radius. A pawl is disposed in the body so that the pawl is movable laterally with respect to the gear between a first position, in which the pawl is disposed between the body and the gear so that the body transmits torque through the pawl in a first rotational direction, and a second position, in which the pawl is disposed between the body and the gear so that the body transmits torque through the pawl in an opposite rotational direction. The pawl defines a plurality of teeth facing the gear, and the pawl teeth define a second arc having a second radius larger than the first radius.

  • Patent number: 7127969
Abstract: An anti-rolling socket. One end of the socket is formed with a fitting hole for fitting on a threaded member. An annular rib with a certain angle of arch is formed on a circumference of the socket to form a maximum outer diameter of the socket. A distance from a first end of the socket to the rib is longer than a distance from a second end of the socket to the rib. In the case that the annular rib has a 360 degree arch, when the socket is placed on a plane, the annular rib and the first end of the socket contact with the plane. When the socket rolls, the socket rolls about a circle. In the case that the annular rib has an arch that the angle of which is less than 360 degrees, when the socket rolls, the socket can only roll within a range less than one circle.

  • Patent number: 7117771
Abstract: Self-adjusting pliers include first and second elongated members each having at one end a jaw portion and at the other end a handle portion, with the elongated members pivotally connected at a position intermediate the jaw and handle portions such that upon positioning the jaw portions on a workpiece and squeezing the handle portions toward each other, the jaws adjust to thickness of the workpiece as they grip the workpiece. The pliers further include a ratchet locking mechanism between the handle portions, the locking mechanism adapted to releasably secure the handle portions upon squeezing of the handle portions toward each other and gripping of the workpiece by the jaw portions to prevent the handle portions from moving apart. A cam operated adjustor is connected to the locking mechanism to increase pressure of the jaw portions about the workpiece, after securing, by hand pressure alone.

  • Patent number: 7111527
Abstract: There is disclosed a selective one-way screwdriver and, more particularly, a selective one-way screwdriver that includes a long handle and can easily be operated. It includes an elongated handle formed with at least one head formed at an end. The head defines a space for receiving an annular gear formed with a toothed wheel portion on the external side. The annular gear includes a recess in an end in order to receive a bit. The head further defines a cavity near the handle and a channel between the cavity and the space. A switch is put in the cavity. In the channel are put two pawls one of which can selectively be engaged with the toothed wheel portion of the annular gear under the control of the switch. Thus, the handle can drive the annular gear in selective one of two directions. The length of the handle is perpendicular to the axis of the bit so that a user can easily use a small force in order to a large torque through the selective one-way screwdriver.
