Abstract: A printing medium comprises a thermoplastic resin and a rheology-controlling diluent, the medium having a melting point of between 40.degree. and 80.degree. Abstract: Organic carboxylic acid containing from 2 to 12 carbon atoms and having at least two carboxyl groups or at least one carboxyl group and one amino or hydroxy group or anhydride or halide of such acid is used in making aqueous, foam-growth-controlling printing ink composition for use in chemical embossing of heat-foamable and expandable resinous materials such as polyvinyl chloride.
Abstract: A non-petroleum base newspaper printing ink comprising a blend of Gilsonite (uintaite) flakes and tall oil fatty acids, together with carbon black pigment. The proportions of the Gilsonite and the tall oil fatty acids may be varied, as viscosity requirements change due to differences in press speeds, newsprint characteristics, and the like. The ink thus has readily adjustable viscosity, together with an enhanced flow and penetration characteristics, while being extremely economical to manufacture.

Abstract: The invention concerns compositions for producing adherent polymeric coatings on a variety of substrates. The coating compositions comprise polymeric latices of colloidal polymer particles of at least one polymer capable of being deposited in the form of a film. In addition to the film-forming polymer, the coating composition comprises a discrete latex component which is a precursor of a material aiding rapid film formation through inter-reaction with the polymer particles, and may also have an affinity toward the substrate so as to function as a linking agent. This material can cause film formation by disrupting the colloidal stability of the polymer particles. It is possible to select as the discrete latex component a precursor of a material which has the dual function of increasing speed of film formation while fostering the adherence and bonding of the film to the substrate because of the material's relative affinities for the polymer and for the substrate.
Abstract: Polysaccharide matrices, including polyfunctional macromolecular spacer "arms" coupled to the backbones of such matrices in multipoint attachment, are useful as adsorbents in affinity chromatography techniques to "separate" the matrix from the specific liquid being chromatographed. Exemplary preferred polyfunctional macromolecules include [1] poly-L-lysine, [2] the graft copolymer, poly(L-lysyl-DL-alanine), [3] native albumin and [4] denatured albumin.

The organophilic clay gellant comprises the reaction product of an organic cation, an organic anion and a smectite-type clay having a cation exchange capacity of at least 75 milliequivalents per 100 grams of said clay such that an organic cation - organic anion complex is intercalated with the smectite-type clay and the cation exchange sites of the smectite-type clay are substituted with the organic cation.
Abstract: The invention relates to a high stability printing liquid, intended more particularly for printing by ink jet.The ink is in the state of a micro-emulsion formed by a dispersing phase containing a group of inter-compatible constituents and a dispersed phase containing a second group of inter-compatible constituents, the constituents of the first and second groups being incompatible with one another. These two phases are separated by an interfacial liquid containing surfactant molecules in such a way that the dispersed phase is in the form of globules of 500 to 1000 Angstrom. The invention is more particularly applicable to printing by ink jet.
